Dr Karsanbhai K. Patel established the NERF in 1994 with a view to promote and support

Accreditation
The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University is a constituent Institution of Nirma University. Nirma
University and its constituent Institutions are accredited with 'A' grade by National Assessment and
Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous accreditation institution of the University Grants
Commission, Government of India.
The letter grade 'A' is the highest grade awarded to an institution of higher education by NAAC. This
accreditation status indicates that Nirma University and all its constituent Institutions meet the
standards of quality as set by NAAC, in terms of their performance related to educational processes and
outcomes covering the curriculum, teaching-learning, evaluation, faculty, research, infrastructure,
learning resources, organisation, governance, financial well-being and student services.
Approvals
• Institute of Commerce is a constituent Institution of the Nirma University, a statutory university
established under the Gujarat Government Act, 2003. The University is recognized by the University
Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act.

Nirma University
Nirma University, Ahmedabad, was established as a Statutory University in 2003. The
University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of the
UGC Act. The University is also accredited with ‘A’ grade by National Assessment and
Accreditation Council (NAAC). Nirma University is Ranked among the top 100 universities by
by MHRD, GOI.
Nirma University consists of the Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Management, Faculty of
Commerce, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Architecture &
Planning and Faculty of Research and Doctoral Studies. The graduate, post-graduate, and
doctoral level programmes offered by these faculties are rated highly by accreditation
agencies, industry, business magazines, and students.

Founded on the vision of Padmashree Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel, the Institute of Commerce,
Nirma University symbolizes the principles of brilliance, excellence and professionalism. It
aims to impart top-class education in the field of Accounting as well as Banking,Financial
Services and Insurance (BFSI) Sector.
The Institute of Commerce believes in serious academic pursuit by means of prudent mix of
relevance and rigor in its curriculum design and delivery aimed at imparting the relevant
skills, knowledge and ideas through intellectually stimulating debates & discussions,
innovative teaching pedagogies and exposure to industry practices. The Institute is dedicated
to its goal of adding value to life and professional standards.
Institute of Commerce, a centre of learning where knowledge fuels the desire for distinction,
aims to pioneer in serving the changing needs of the industry. The campus infrastructure and
amenities are comparable to any reputed university around the world. It hosts fully equipped
classrooms where focused discussions, interactive study sessions, role plays, presentations,
case studies etc. are held.
Curriculum
Summer InternshipThe students are required to undergo Summer Internship for a period of four weeks at the end
of 4th Semester. The internship is arranged at companies/industries to enable the students to
gain practical/real-life experience of industry/corporate world.
The Bachelor in Commerce intends to prepare students for their career in Accounting
profession and BFSI sector. It aims to develop requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes in
them to meet the challenges of the accounting, auditing, taxation and BFSI sector domains.
The endeavour of the programme is to develop skills focused in accounting. The programme
focuses equally on theoretical and practical aspects of the above mentioned domains,
promoting an attitude of life-long learning among the students and preparing them as a
professional. It comprises of six semesters (two semesters in each year). On successful
completion of the six semesters, a degree of Bachelors in Commerce (Honours) [B.Com.
(Hons.)] is awarded to the students.

Beyond AcademicsWe believe that it is our responsibility to develop our students as professionals right on the
campus while they are still students. We consider students as active partners in managing the
Institute and its activities such as conferences, guest lectures, seminars, placement, etc., and
ensures that they play an active role in the life of the Institute rather than being passive
recipients. The time that students spend at the campus, are designed to be the most
fulfilling periods of their lives.
Co-curricular and Extra-curricular Activities
The students are encouraged to plan, organize and participate in various co-curricular
activities on their own with basic support from the Institute. Such an atmosphere inculcates a
spirit of leadership and an understanding of different aspects of management. They

Eligibility:
The students seeking admission in the first year of Degree Programme leading to Bachelor of
Commerce (Honours) [B.Com(Honours)] shall have passed the HSC examination (10+2) or
any other recognized examination considered equivalent by Nirma University with English as
a subject alongwith any one of the following subjects: Accountancy/Business
Administration/Economics/Statistics/Mathematics
Selection Process :
Merit of admission is based on aggregate percentage of marks in qualifying examination (i.e.
12th Standard).

The Campus
The University is situated about 15 kms. from Ahmedabad city, on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar
Highway. A 110-acre lush green campus in picturesque surroundings provides a refreshing
environment, stimulating intellectual alertness and creativity. The campus has an ambience
that motivates the students to grow. The University building has several amphitheaters, flat
classrooms, an auditorium with a capacity of 450 seats, computer centre, a communication
lab, a fully automated library, an art gallery, faculty and administrative blocks, conference
rooms, and other facilities. Modernity, aestheticism, and grandeur characterize the buildings.
The campus also has modern sports facilities. The overall atmosphere is distinguished by
serenity, which is conducive for intellectual pursuits.
Classrooms
The classrooms are equipped with multimedia and audio-visual equipment to facilitate
effective learning. Classrooms are designed to promote maximum interaction between the
faculty and students. Each classroom has internet connectivity through LAN and Wi-Fi.
Computing Facilities
Computing facilities for the students include a well-equipped lab. A state-of-the-art gigabyte
network connects every corner of the Institute. High-speed servers running on a variety of
platforms to suit all kinds of requirements support the entire network. A 256mbps dedicated
optic fiber leased line and wi-fi hotspots enable round the clock internet connectivity. The
Institute has also acquired the latest software, namely SPSS and Oracle,among others.
Internet and Intranet mail servers are available to students and faculty round the clock.
Library Resource Centre (LRC)
The library provides access to a wide range of business related sources that include leading
national and international business periodicals in addition to an impressive collection of
business databases, digitized corporate annual reports, and CDs/DVDs. The library has more
than 33,500 volumes of books.
The library subscribes to 13 databases. Around 15000 e-journals are subscribed through
databases such as EBSCO's Business Source Complete, and Academic Search Complete, Elsevier's
Science Direct: Business, Management & Accounting package, Emerald Management, JSTOR
archival e-journal package and Oxford e-bundle. The library subscribes to ISI Emerging Markets
database which provides trade related information from all over the world. The financial and
economic databases subscribed by the library are Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy's-
Industry Outlook, Ace Equity and Ace Mutual Fund from Accord Fintech, IndiaStat, EPWRF India
Series, Frost and Sullivan, and SCOPUS. The library also subscribes to Indiastat.com and has
Springer e-books collection. All databases are accessible on Campus IP's and remote access is
given on request as well.
The library is fully automated through Koha: an open source software, accessible on the campus
LAN. This user-friendly package facilitates issue and return of books with Web-catalogue. The
library has adopted the latest information technologies like CD, DVD, multimedia kits, barcode
scanners, and text and graphic scanners for effective use of library services.
