On behalf of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO), we are delighted to announce that the EAO’s 28th annual scientific meeting will take place in Lisbon from 26–28 September 2019.

The congress will feature some of the biggest names in implant dentistry and attract thousands of people from around the world to Portugal’s capital. The EAO congress is a truly global event, and we are delighted to welcome Brazil as next year’s invited country.

The theme of the congress is building a ‘Bridge to the future’ of implant den-tistry. Reflecting this, the EAO has prepared an exciting scientific programme with many new features and a special focus on the future. You will have the opportunity to take part in dynamic and interactive sessions as speakers tackle hot topics relevant to clinical practice.

As ever, the conference will be a great opportunity to network, share research and discover new technology. The trade exhibition will bring you up to date with the cutting edge of research and innovation.

We hope you can join us in Lisbon for what will be one of the biggest events in the field, and help us inspire the future of implant dentistry.

Welcome to Lisbon

Enabling best practices using Osstell implant diagnostics

Evidence based guidance for implant loading – sharing knowledge for predictable treatment outcomes

MODERATORMarcus Dagnelid (Sweden)

SPEAKERSJeff Ganeles (USA), Barry Levin (USA) Neil Meredith (Australia)

The speakers will demonstrate how clinicians can achieve predictable and optimal time to teeth for each patient using Osstell implant diagnostics.Easy access to evidence-based diagnostics and statistics is important to guide both implantologists and specialists about osseointegration of implants. Therefore, Osstell has developed a unique cloud-based portal, the Osstell Connect, a global online service enabling actionable insights and a powerful tool of “factfulness” for the clinician.

There is increased interest in the long term clinical outcomes and quality of life of patients treated with a high performance polymer for the framework material for full-arch implant-supported dental prosthetics, rather than the traditionally used metal or ceramic materials. The presentations by The MALO CLINIC will focus on laboratory experiences and clinical outcomes with JUVORA full-arch implant supported prosthe-ses on edentulous patients.

Bringing inspiration and innovation to dental professionals

Inspiration TALKS – making the difference with evolution, innovation and convenience

SPEAKERSLyndon Cooper (USA)Martin Wanendeya (UK)Malene Hallund (Denmark)

High quality implant dentistry is like the art and science of building a bridge. You start with a foundation based on science, followed by detailed planning and precise surgical skills, completed by a unique, esthetic, restor-ative design. Together with solutions based on continuous evolution, digital innovation and convenience, the final result makes a difference for each and every patient. And just like the bridge, implant dentistry helps overcome obstacles and create opportunities—to enjoy life again today and tomorrow.

Regeneration of tissues in sites affected by peri-implantitisStefan Renvert (Sweden)

Peri-implantitis affected implants lesions can be successfully regenerated using regenerative measures and maintained over a long time. The lecture will not only cover diagnosis and classification, but also when and how to apply predictive regenerative procedures.

Digital planning in GBR: customized bone regeneration® in complex bone augmentationBilal Al-Nawas (Germany)

Vertical bone augmentation requires space maintaining elements to provide graft stability but are associated with time consuming procedures. 3D printing technology offers new opportunities to reduce surgical time due to customization and supports planning of bone regeneration and implant positioning in a digital workflow.

How to combine Bone Regeneration and Orthodontics. What is Predictable, Possible and Impossible in Digital Dentistry.

This scientific session will review two hot topics in implant dentistry; firstly Prof. Neiva will present innovative bone grafting techniques combined with orthodontic treatment, followed by Prof. Pradies who will bring more clarity to the digital dentistry procedures, focusing on what’s predictable, what’s possible and what’s impossible.

Achieving perfect implant placement? Strategies for prosthetically driven digital implant planning

SPEAKERZachary Evans (USA)

Since the clinical incorporation of CBCT and intraoral imaging into the dental implant practice, the ability for digital planning has evolved. A wide variety of strategies have been developed to plan the surgery (i.e. implant position), referencing the radiographic data along with models or interpretations of the future restorative de-sign. Two questions have arisen: What digital implant planning strategies are the most useful; and what do we consider to be the best implant position? This presentation will review new research into how different digital workflows for implant planning affect the validity of the plan, and demonstrate an ideal workflow.

SPEAKERRodrigo Neiva (USA)

Prof. Neiva will present a treatment approach to accelerate orthodontic treatment and prevent dehiscence defects and gingival recessions associated to orthodontic arch expansion. The rationale, advantages and disad-vantages for this technique will be discussed, as well as the graft material selection and its use for alveolar ridge augmentation to be done prior to, and during active orthodontic treatment.

SPEAKERGuillermo Pradies (Spain)

Digital dentistry is here to stay. As clinicians we must know the advantages as well as the limitations of the digital dental procedures. While intraoral scanners and digital designing and production methods are improv-ing the daily clinical practice bringing accuracy and speed to the treatments, we should be aware of what’s predictable, what’s possible and what’s impossible nowadays. We need to ensure successful and predictable treatments to our patients.

Identifying candidates for immediate placement in a post-extraction socket in the anterior zone; use tissue management guidelines to preserve natural gingival contours and execute necessary surgical techniques

Update on current research and presentation of a novel Implant design for post extraction immedi-ate loading with hard and soft tissue preservation

SPEAKERSHugo De Bruyn (Belgium)Pär-Olov Östman (Sweden)

Immediate implant placement in a post-extraction socket in the aesthetic zone is challenging. Anatomic challenges may necessitate cement-retained restorations or angled abut-ments, neither optimal for preserving mid-facial tissue.

We’ll demonstrate how the use of an implant with a novel design, Inverta, ™ together with appropriate screw-retained restoration can help maximize bone and soft tissue volume. A dual or Co-Axis® Implant design allows for subcrestal an-gle correction.

After the workshop, participants should be able to: Identify patients for post-extraction socket immediate place-ment in the anterior zone Incorporate tissue management guidelines to preserve nat-ural gingival contours Explain the benefits of a site-specific implant and screw-re-tained restorations Execute the necessary surgical techniques

Walk through historic neighbourhoodsIf you like historic areas, visit Alfama – the oldest part of Lisbon. Or visit the Baixa district to discover mag-nificent plazas and wide avenues lined with grand Baroque buildings. Chiado is an elegant and bohemian neighbourhood in Lisbon, offering numerous shopping and cultural opportunities. If you're looking for good fado restaurants, the Bairro Alto district is the place to be, with its cool 'alternative' atmosphere.

Try pastéis de nataThese tasty custard tarts are Lis-bon’s best-known dessert, and are best served hot sprinkled with cin-namon. Where better to try them than at Pastéis de Belém, where natas were first sold in 1837. The owners proudly claim they use the original recipe to this day!

Get the best views at Lisbon's MiradourosOne of the top-rated things to do in Lisbon is to admire the view at one of Lisbon's many Miradouros. The most famous is Miradouro São Pe-dro de Alcantara, which is especially magnificent at sunset. Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, Miradouro do Graça and Miradouro das Portas do Sol also offer spectacular panoramic views of the city.

Walk along thousand-year-old wallsThe hilltop fortifications of Caste-lo de São Jorge date back to the mid-11th century. Roam the snaking ramparts and pine-shaded court-yards for unparalleled views of the city’s iconic red rooftops to the river.

Visit the Belém TowerOne of Lisbon's most iconic land-marks, the early 16th-century Torre de Belém stands over the mouth of the Tagus river, guarding the entrance to the city's harbour. It is a symbol of Lisbon's maritime his-tory and is reached via a walkway raised out over the water on tim-bers. Inside, it is filled with intricate stonework and amazing views of the Atlantic.

Hop on Tram 28Riding the iconic yellow Tram 28 from Martim Moniz to Campo Ouri-que is one of the best ways to expe-rience Lisbon. See the city from the streets themselves and drive past the main landmarks an attractions, and you can let the tram climb those hills for you!

Listen to FadoFado music is a traditional music genre characterised by its slow and melancholic rhythm. It was recent-ly added to the UNESCO’s list of World’s Intangible Heritage.

A trip to Lisbon wouldn't be com-plete without enjoying dinner and being serenaded by fado music. Discover

a 500-year-old MonasteryThe Monastery of Jerónimos was built in the 15th century to com-memorate Vasco da Gama's 'discov-ery' of India. The main attraction is the extraordinarily intricate Gothic chapel opening on to a grand mon-astery, in which some of Portugal's greatest historical figures are en-tombed. It is also one of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Pay tribute to the explorers who came before youThe Padrão dos Descobrimentos marks the shore of the Tagus Estu-ary. The monument's grand archi-tecture and stonework and is an ornate testimony to the successes of Portuguese exploration during the Age of Discovery. Once you spot it, be sure to pick out the legend-ary figures of Vasco da Gama and Prince Henry the Navigator.
