Another YeAr, Another SucceSS

the third edition of unseen, the photography fair and festival for new discoveries, was held from 18 to 21 September 2014 in Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek. More than 22,500 visitors immersed themselves in a world full of new experiences, adventures and in-sights. We present an overview of this successful third edition with a closer look at the inspiring fair ground and the extensive side pro-gramming on the festival ground.

Fifty-three leading international galleries exposed hidden treasures at unseen Photo Fair 2014. originating from a wider spread of international cities including Jakar-ta, Seoul, Budapest, Bratislava, the galleries wholeheartedly embraced the unseen concept and celebrated new photography and upcoming talent. Strong sales to museums, international collectors and first-time buyers were reported throughout the fair.

the gallery stands were comple-mented by artist-run initiatives in the unseen niches, and the unseen collection, the unique collection of more than 60 high-quality works of prices up to 1,000 euros. Initia-tives including the BankGiro Loterij talent collection, the new talent Photography Award and the outset | unseen exhibition Fund were founded to foster the careers of young, emerging photographers.

Growing out of a sincere enthusiasm for photography, the festival pro-gramme is an integral part of unseen. the extensive side programme of unseen 2014 included the unseen Special exhibition Anima on Photo, a presentation of the Foam Magazine talents, a celebration of independ-ent publishers, beautiful books and their makers at the unseen Book Market, and the unseen Living room, a place for the exchange of dialogue, lectures, debates on artistic expres-sion and ideas.

Unseen celebrated its festive opening on Wednesday the 17th of September with collectors, professionals gallery owners, and artists from all over the world.

An exclusive VIP lunch was held prior to the official opening.

The Unseen Collection consisted of more than 60 high-quality works of prices up to 1,000 euros.

The gallery stands were complemented by collectives from four different countries in the Unseen Niches.

Sixty-six international artists launched a premiere at Unseen; work that had never been seen at a gallery, art institution or online.

The newest developments taking place in the world of contemporary photography were at the heart of Unseen Photo Fair.

German photographer Regine Petersen was the recipient of the 2014 Outset | Unseen Exhibition Fund. Petersen will have a solo exhibition at Foam 3h at the start of 2015.

The festival ground was accompanied by several photography-related initiatives including an installation of Lorenzo Vitturi, New Window, The Human Printer, The Weekender, Fotokopie and Foam.

The Festival Square was a great hang-out and meeting place for professionals and photography enthusiasts.

The Unseen Book Market celebrated independent publishers, beautiful books and their creators.
