About Unpad,

Located in Bandung and Jatinangor, and new campus in Arjasari, Unpad is Government University

established in 1957 becomes one of top ten Universities in Indonesia. Total Students 40,000+ with about

700 international students.

When established, the university had four departments: Law, Economics, Medicine, and Mathematics and

Natural Sciences. Now it has developed into 16 faculties and several postgraduate programmes, 44

undergraduate programmes (Strata 1/S1), two specialist programmes, nine doctorate programmes

(Strata 3/S3), 19 Master's degree programmes (Strata 2/S2), five profession programmes, one four-year

diploma program (D4), and 32 three-year diploma programs (D3).

Initially established in Bandung, almost all undergraduate departments have been relocated to

Jatinangor, a town near Sumedang, except for the departments of Law and Economics. Postgraduate

departments still have their teaching facilities in Bandung. In 2016 Unpad also offers degree in

Pangandaran Campus.

Over the last five years, UNPAD has become the number one most favourite government University for High

School Graduates applying for undergraduate degrees. The University is accredited as “A” by the National

Accreditation Bureau and most of degrees in UNPAD also has “A” accreditation (the highest).

Bandung is the capital city of West Java province, the country's third largest city, and second largest metropolitan area in

Indonesia. The beautiful city with population about 7.4 million is located 768 meters (2,520 ft) above sea level, approximately

140 km south eastern of Jakarta. The city lies on a river basin surrounded by volcanic mountains.

Many of restaurants, cafes, European boutiques, shopping center and luxurious hotels were opened in this city, made it was

dubbed as Paris Van Java. Moreover, the mixture of convenient climate, varieties of entertainment facilities, hang-out points,

and the cheaper fashion shops also makes Bandung being a popular weekend-break destination for people living in other

cities.

Climate and weather in Bandung, there are only dry and wet season. The weather in Bandung has been reached 30 ºC, with

coldest daily temperature reaches about 19 ºC. The climate in Bandung remains hot throughout the year, although between

October and April, the weather is often rainy, with heavy downpours and more than the occasional tropical storm.

Pangandaran is located on the southern coast of the island of Java. It is one of popular tourist destination with its well-

known surfing beach and natural parks. It takes around 6 hours from Bandung by car.

About Unpad Summer Program 2017

The annual 10 days-program held by university which consists of cultural activities, lectures, discussion

with business practitioners also company/manufacture visits, group work and presentation. This year’s

program will be held in Bandung Campus and Pangandaran coastal villages.

The objectives of the program is to promote friendship across nations while exploring the culture and

beautiful beach of West Java. We believe international networks of intellectuals will bring peace and

prosperity to the world as future leaders will have a better understanding of international affairs.

2017 summer program is especially design to explore ideas from international students on how to

improve the quality of life of coastal villages in Pangandaran area. Indonesia is an archipelago country

consists of more than 17,000 island. Unfortunately many villages in coastal areas are less developed

which become the main concern of the central government of Indonesia for the last few years.

Who should join this program?

Any Undergraduate or Master students who are interested to learn about Indonesia, Indonesian culture

and the coastal life in West Java, you are most welcome to apply!

The Outcome of this program

Participants will be divided into few groups which will be assigned in to different villages. Each group

should develop a proposal on how to improve the quality life of their villages. The examples of

proposals : improving the general health of people, increasing the villages income, or promoting the

village as touristic destination.

The final result of each group be presented to the local government and publish them on the website

you build during the project.

Predeparture Research Activities

Before coming to our summer program, we would like you to explore ideas from coastal village development in

your country. What have been done in your country which may be good to be applied in Pangandaran. Please

write two pages of essay about your ideas. Essay is written in a good English and should be emailed to us on the

30th July 2017 at the latest. You can be selected as the winner of our best essay competition!

How to Get to Bandung?

If your flight arrives at Soekarno Hatta Airport Jakarta, you can take shuttle to Bandung (such as

Cititrans). The fee is around IDR 180,000 – IDR 220.000 (USD 20)

Accommodation

In Bandung you will be staying in University’s hotel facility. In Pangandaran you will be living together

with the people in the Village. Please note that there will be no air conditioner during your stay in

Pangandaran Village.

Visa Information

Foreigner with Visa Exemption facilities will be granted Visit Stay Permit for 30 (thirty) days; Not

Extendable and Can not be converted into another type of stay permit

Visa on Arrival (35US$, 30 days valid, extendable (once for 30 days)

There are 169 free visa countries, please visit official immigration website to check whether your country

is on the list.

What to Bring in your Backpack

light clothes, Bandung is about 23-29 Celcius all year round. Pangandaran is about 32-37 Celcius

Personal medicine and snack. We encourage you to bring traditional snack of your country to share

with others participants. Participants are also encouraged to share their traditional music and dances.

You may bring something unique about your country (flag, or traditional dress) for photo sessions

and international day

More formal dress (long sleeves) for meeting with Government and Village officials

Modest Swim Wear. Bikini is not very common in Indonesia.

Umbrella. Bandung and Pangandaran often have rain in the afternoon.
