Bed A hospital mattress is usually firm and has covering that can be cleansed easily between patients. Beds uses for health care usually on wheels and equipped with side rail. Always check to make sure the bed wheels are locked , unless you are moving the bed.

The technique of preparing bed making when patient is out of bed.

Generally the top cover of an open bed are folded back (thus the term open bed) to make it easier for a client to get in.

vi. Removed and soiled pillowcase by grasping the closed end with one hand and slipping the pillow out with the other. Place the soiled cases on top of the soiled sheet and place the pillow on clean work area. Allow easy removal of the pillowcase without contamination of uniform by soiled linens and keep pillows clean

vii. Remove soiled linen : start on the side of the bed closet to you by lifting the mattress and rolling soiled linens to the middle of the bed. Go to other side of the bed, repeat

action. Prevent tearing and fanning of linensviii. Place long mackintosh on mattress if necessary.

ix. Place bottom sheet evenly on the bed. Secure sheet snugly to the head of the bed and evenly distributes linens

x. Tuck the sheets under the mattress using enveloped corners, starting from top. Hold the corner in place

xi. Pull sheet tight so that there are no creases. Provide patient with wrinkle-free bed

xii. Place a draw mackintosh (if necessary) across the bed with the upper corner under the edge of the pillow. Protect the bottom linens from soiling

xiii. Cover mackintosh with draw sheets and tuck it in. To avoid irritation

xiv. Fold blanket into 4, lengthwise and tuck the bottom fold under the mattress. Tug the blanket neatly.

xv. Apply the pillowcase until the pillow is completely covered.

xvi. Place the pillows on the bed so that the open ends of the slip are away from the door. Provides a neater appearance

xvii. After bed making the nurse must make sure that all the locker (bedside) and the two chairs used have been replaced in their proper positions.
