Learning to Appreciate “Otherness”
Matthew 25: 34-45
“It is true that we are all in this together. It is equally true that we spend most of our lives in “tribes” or lifestyle enclaves—and that thinking of the world in terms of “us” and “them” is one of the many limitations of the human mind. The good news
is that “us and them” does not have to mean “us versus them.” - Parker J. Palmer, Healing the Heart of Democracy

Yes, it’s that time again!
Leaves are changing, families calling to make plans, kids making decorations…But what if
there were no food?
This Thanksgiving, for many reasons, not every family will gather around a delicious meal
with all the trimmings. But you can help! Denver Urban Matters and YOUR youth group are
collecting these food items to create Thanksgiving meals for families who would otherwise go
without:
Boxed Stuffing, Gravy (can or mix), 2 Cans Green Beans, 2 Cans Corn, Crunchy Fried
Onions, Cream of Mushroom Soup, Sweet Potatoes (can or box), Canned Cranberries,
Fruit Cocktail, Jell-O, Pie Filling,
Pie Crust (pre-made or mix)
$10 Grocery Gift Card for the purchase of a turkey, please purchase this
from the UMW at the front desk
Food For All is TODAY! Please bring your items to church today and the youth will deliver
them to DenUm. Thank You!
King Soopers and Safeway/Albertsons gift
cards are available each Sunday at the re-
ception desk.
When reloaded at the store, UMW re-
ceives 5% from King Soopers and 3%
from Albertsons/Safeway.
We all purchase groceries, so help out
with missions at the same time!

Advent Resources Next Sunday, November 27 is the first Sunday of Advent. The Spiritual Life Committee has chosen
two devotional resources to focus on the anticipation of the Advent Season. Living the Gospel Life
seeks to equip, challenge, and inspire Christians who are on a MISSION. It is an exciting and even holy
endeavor. From the moment it was revealed, Jesus’ ministry was a ministry of action: announcing, re-
leasing, healing, enlightening, freeing, and proclaiming. Jesus calls us to participate in this mission dur-
ing this Advent season through the inspiration of the daily devotionals in this resource.
Waiting for God with Henri J.M. Nouwen offers writings by Nouwen to inspire us to wait with active
minds, bodies, and spirits. Nouwen says, “A waiting person is someone who is present to the moment,
believing that this moment is the moment.” The waiting can offer many new possibilities for a relation-
ship with God that will transform us and our lives during the coming year. Look for these resources in
the lobbies of the sanctuary and chapel. Enjoy the waiting and anticipation.
