Intramurals

A. The Intramural Sports Program had many things to be proud of this year as many firsts were achieved. The 17-18 year was the first year that we sent an intramural basketball team to an extramural tournament. A group of 7 undergraduate UT students attended the NIRSA Basketball Regional Tournament at the University of Dayton. B. This was the first year that an intramural official has attended a NIRSA endorsed conference. Two freshman Intramural Officials attended the NIRSA Region III Student Lead-On Conference at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.C. The 17-18 academic year also allowed us to revamp the Battle of I-75 with Bowling Green State University’s Intramural Program. The University of Toledo Intramural Basketball Champions competed against Bowling Green State University’s Intramural Basketball Champions across three different divisions (Men’s Independent, Women/Sorority, and CoRec) and won in each division.D. The 17-18 academic year was the first year of our Unified Sport Leagues. Unified Sports “is an inclusive sports program that unites Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) as teammates for training and competition.” We hosted our inaugural Unified Flag Football League during the Fall Semester and our inaugural Unified Basketball League during the Spring Semester.E. Following our Unified Basketball Season, the champion of our league was invited to represent The University of Toledo and the Toledo community at the NIRSA National Basketball Championships at The Ohio State University on April 20-22, 2018. F. The Coordinator of Competitive Sports and Camps, Tony North Jr, was selected to serve on the All-Tournament Committee at both the NIRSA Basketball Regional at The University of Dayton and the NIRSA National Basketball Championships at The Ohio State University. The NIRSA National Championship events helps to create a life-long impact on the participating student athletes by building self-efficacy, promoting sportsmanship, fostering leadership, and communication skills.
