Vice Chancellor’s Message

Prof. Emeritus M. Rasul Jan PoP, SIVice Chancellor

I am pleased to share with you that the year 2018-19 was another year of achievement for the University of The Poonch Rawalakot. The journey toward excellence continued slowly but surely. The University of The Poonch remained a hub of academic activities throughout the year. A record number of projects worth 76 Million were won by our faculty members, which will go long way in capacity building of the labs and skill development of our graduates. Seminar/workshop and conferences both at National and International level were organized. Faculty members published 150 research papers in National and International Journals.

Recruitment process have been made more transparent and governance has been improved. The hiring of qualified teacher through transparent process are paying off in term of knowledge creating, bringing funding and imparting skills required by the job market.

Existing infrastructure has been improved and construction on new campus at Trar is in progress. Construction work has been simultaneously initiated on Academic Block, Administration block, Main Library and a Girls Hostel. It is expected that the Girls Hostel will be ready by the end of this year. Land have been acquired for Kahuta-Haveli as well as Mong Campus.

The credit of the achievements goes to the dedicated and competent team of teachers and member of the management team of the University who works tirelessly for the uplift of their Institution. I am sure the synergy which has been created through team work will transform the University into one of the best institution in the region.

I am pleased to share with you that the reporting year July 2018 to June 2019 was a successful year from all the three parameters that is Access, Relevance, and Quality point of view. Many goals enshrined in the vision and mission of the university have been achieved. The upward journey toward excellence continued in a peaceful and pleasant environment. Throughout the year the university remained a hub of academic activities and we have many reasons to celebrate.

A silent revolution has been observed in the capacity building and knowledge creation activities of the faculty members. Research grants to the tune of Rs 76 million have been secured by the faculty members from different

funding agencies. Faculty members and students published over 150 research papers in national and international journals and presented their research work in over 100 different national and international meetings. A total of 88Mphil, 575MS and 5 Ph.D. students have successfully completed their degree programmes.

On the quality side, we had opened our door to the accreditation bodies to evaluate our academic programmes like Agriculture, Computer Sciences, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Eastern Medicine and Surgery, Electrical Engineering, Pharmacy and Software Engineering. I am pleased to share that all these programmes stand accredited. Accreditation process for our business

programmes have been initiated. NOCs has been acquired for the already initiated MS/M.Phil programmes while NOC have been obtained to initiate MS/M.Phil. Programmes in the subjects of Islamic Studies, Physics, Botany, Mathematics, Zoology and Chemistry

Faculty Development remained our Focus and Eleven faculty members were sent abroad to pursue their PhD degree, while 26 faculty members were relieved for perusing higher studies at various national institutes of international repute The number of PhD faculty members has been increased from 50 to 98 during this year. Three professional workshops, 04 training programmes, 04 National level seminar/conferences and one international conference was organised

Students remained the centre of attention and a variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities were arranged for their grooming. The students of University participated in sports and debates both at the state and national level. Financial support was extended to the student under need based scholarship (Rs 10.4 Million ), Merit Scholarship (Rs .9 Million) , Prime minister fee reimbursement scheme(Rs 40 Million ), while 930 Lap top were distributed among the students under under prime minister lap tops scheme.

During 2018-19, we continued to develop physical infrastructure. Construction of academic block of Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences was completed last year, this year construction of ablution area attached with university mosque, construction of main gate and boundary wall around Shamsabad Campus was completed. Last year the contract for construction of Tarar campus was awarded and works on the construction of academic block, admin block, library and girls hostel is in full swing. Acquisition of 102 kanals land for Haveli-Kahuta Campus , purchase of building and 59 kanal land for Mong campus was also accomplished during 2018-19.

Improvement in the University Governance remained on the top of our agenda. For this purpose, regular meetings of the statutory bodies were held to perform their respective functions and to ensure their contribution in smooth running and streamlining of the affair of the University. During 2018-19, Advanced Studies and Research Board met 6 times, Academic Council 3 times, Selection Board held 1, syndicate met twice and senate met once. In order to bring more transparency and ensure merit in faculty recruitment, the complete eligibility and selection criteria has been revisited and approved from the statutory bodies.

The combination of committed management team, dedicated faculty member and talented students have created a truly learning environment at UPR which is felt and appreciated both at the state and national level.

A Semester System of education is being practiced at the University of Poonch Rawalakot. An academic year is divided into two semesters namely, spring and fall, each of a minimum duration of 16 weeks of teaching. The spring and fall semesters start on the first Monday falling in the month of March and September in each calendar year. There is a gap of two weeks between the semesters, and the exact dates are decided in a meeting of Deans/Directors and Chairpersons, taking the factual position (prevalent at that time) into consideration. Admissions in under-graduate and post-graduate Programmes are

Skills Development and Power System Tools

The Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, organized a two-day 1st National Workshop on, “Skills Development and Power System Tools” on December 04-05, 2019 at University of Poonch Rawalakot. Dr. Usama Usman from Florida State University was the resource person. The main and foremost purpose of the workshop was to provide the information to the students, how to get financial aid to pursue their education and fulfill their dreams without any hurdles in life. Scholarships provide access to those who didn’t have means for meeting the expenses of education. A scholarship can make a big difference in education. The money from a scholarship helps by allowing one to be more selective in how he/she spends his/her free time. Students will be able to maximize the college experience through service-learning, volunteer opportunities and internships. The second purpose of the workshop was to provide hands on experience to the engineering students and faculty on Open DSS and Power system tools. Open DSS is an electric power distribution system simulator (DSS) designed to support distributed energy resources (DER), grid integration and grid modernization. It enables engineers to perform complex analyses using a flexible, customizable, and easy to use platform intended specifically to meet current and future distribution system challenges and provides a foundation for understanding and integrating new technologies and resources.

Reproductive Ultrasonography in Small Ruminants: Basic Techniques and Field Applications in Hilly Areas

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, organized a one-day Workshop on, “Reproductive Ultrasonography in Small Ruminants: Basic Techniques and Field Applications in Hilly” on November 13-14, 2019 at University of Poonch Rawalakot. Dr. Muhammad Zubair, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences was the resource person. During the Workshop, Dr. Zubair highlighted the importance and application of ultrasonography in veterinary practice, and specifically in small ruminants. He said that diagnosis of early pregnancy with the use of this technique at slaughtering houses will lead to prevent the loss of small fetuses. Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences has been equipped with ultrasound of small animal scanning. In this context, the present workshop focuses developing a trained human resource who would be able to take challenge of development by provision of services to farmers. Moreover, many veterinary hospitals are also equipped with ultrasounds machine in AJK. Therefore, this workshop would be source of improvement of reproductive health of small ruminants in hilly areas.

Sediment Pollution in Goi-Nala Catchment of River Jhelum

The Department of Soil & Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, organized a Seminar on, “Sediment Pollution in Goi-Nala Catchment of River Jhelum” on October 16, 2019. The Vice-Chancellor, University of Poonch Rawalakot, Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan was the chief guest. Dr. Mohsin Zafar, Assistant

Professor, Department of Soil & Environmental Sciences was the keynote speaker. Dr. Zafar told the audience that, water-dependent ecosystems are highly vulnerable to environmental degradation due to climatic and anthropogenic alterations. He told that from his study he found highest bioavailable P, sediment total nitrogen, total organic carbon and higher concentration of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn that crossed the permissible limits of National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS). Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid while addressing the participants highlighted the importance of the study. In the end, the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan appreciated the efforts of Dr. Zafar for bringing awareness about water pollution. The seminar was attended by large number of audiences from different walks of life.

Research Methods and Data Analysis

Dr. Jamila Khurshid, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management, Humanities and Management Sciences organized a workshop on, “Research Methods and Data Analysis” on September 17, 2019. Mr. Mubarik Hussian CEO Quantum (Pvt) Ltd. Was the resource person. During the workshop, statistical Analysis Tools, Research Methodology and write-up were thoroughly discussed.

Department of Botany, Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences organized, organized a seminar on “Inhibition of bacterial Quorum Sensing in MDR pathogens via bioassay guided fractionation of botanical” on June 23, 2019. Dr. Salam from Emory University, Atlanta USA was the keynote speaker.

Convocation

4th Convocation of the University of Poonch Rawalakot was held on October 29, 2019. H.E. Sardar Masood Khan, President, Azad Government of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir/Chancellor, University of Poonch Rawalakot graced the convocation as chief guest. The Controller of Examinations office worked hard for the successful conduct of the Convocation. A total of 1073 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees were awarded in 4th Convocation among which 28 meritorious scholars got gold medals.

University of Poonch Rawalakot is committed to provide supreme learning experience in all its degree programs to develop professional leaders who can take the country to the new heights of excellence. This goal cannot be achieved without maintaining unparallel quality in teaching and governance. Realizing the importance of this goal, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) is committed to guarantee the quality in all endeavours of the University. The QEC is also responsible to maintain and enhance public confidence in the quality of the degrees awarded by the university. The QEC periodically reviews academic programs offered by different departments of the University as a part of its internal self-assessment policy. The feedback received from the students and Faculty is employed to improve levels of regional and national competitiveness of UPR graduates and to bring improvements in monitoring and evaluation procedures. QEC of the University of Poonch Rawalakot facilitates University in obtaining NOC for opening of new degree programs form concerned bodies, accreditation of existing degree programs and in institutional performance evaluation. Throughout the year, QEC facilitates departments for preparation of Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) and coordinated SARs Meetings with Chairman / Coordinators and PT members. QEC also facilitated Departments in implementation of anti-plagiarism policy and scrutinized thesis.

Accreditation Visits during the year 2019-2020

Pakistan Engineering Council Visit

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) visit for OBA based re-accreditation visit was facilitated by Directorate of QEC on September 26-28, 2019. The Pakistan Engineering Council team was led by Eng. Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed, GIKI. Other members were, Eng. Dr. Abdul Ghafoor, NUST, MCS Rawalpindi, Eng. Dr. Farrukh Kamal, Sky Electric Islamabad and Eng. Jahanzeb Khan, representative PEC Regional Office Peshawar.

Pakistan Veterinary and Medical Council Visit

Pakistan Veterinary and Medical Council (PVMC) visited Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences for re-accreditation on September 02, 2019. The PVMC team was led by Dr. Ghulam Hussain Jaffar Director General Livestock & Dairy Development Department Baluchistan. The members of the team were Dr. Nazeer Ahmad Kalhoro Director General Sindh Institute of Animal He.

Accreditations visit of National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council

Directorate of Quality Enhancement Cell facilitated accreditation visit of National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) for the accreditation of under-graduate Degree programs in Agriculture in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Breeding & Molecular Genetics, Plant Pathology and Soil Science on, July 22-23, 2019. The Accreditation Council teams were led by Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq A. Rajwana, Chairperson, National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council.

Academic excellence cannot be achieved without continuous learning and development of existing Faculty and induction of new Faculty. Induction of new faculty is a regular feature at UPR. At present 50% of the Faculty holds doctoral degrees and UPR is committed to increase this ratio in coming years. The provision of regular opportunities for Faculty development and induction of new Faculty has yielded trained human resource in Agriculture, Basic Sciences, Engineering, Management Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences and Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The details of Faculty members in different Faculties and Campuses are as under: -

University of the Poonch Rawalakot (UPR) is working hard to establish local issues-based research environment and to provide local resource-based solutions. These problem-oriented solutions can help to establish local commercial/cottage industries. During the year 2018-19, Dr. Saima Rafiq, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science & Technology, got first ever funding in this regard. Her project is, “Development of Bio-yogurt using fruits and probiotics” were approved for 14.0 Million rupees from Technology Development Fund (TDF) program of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad. During the year 2019-20, Dr. Saima has started successful R & D activities of the project. She established a Dairy Processing Hall (Laboratory) equipped with Milk pasteurizer, homogenizer, cream separator, blenders, incubator, chillers, milk storage and fermentation tanks etc. She is working in collaboration with Achha Foods Pvt. Ltd. Lahore and National Institute of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering Faisalabad (NIBGE) for the Development

It is a platform to utilize different fruits which are otherwise wasted every year in AJK. In this way, local community will be benefited and get attraction for proper utilization of fruits in different products. Therefore, it is believed that the production of bio-yogurt will boost and stimulate the national economy and help to flourish the dairy industries in Pakistan.

Narcotics Eradication Seminar

On December 16, 2019, Directorate of Student Affairs organized, “Narcotics Eradication Seminar”. Brigadier Abdul Hameed, Director General Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) was the chief guest. Director Student Affairs welcomed the guests. Deans of the Faculties, Directors, Chairpersons, and a large number of students participated in the Seminar. Speaking on the occasion the Brigadier Abdul Hameed, told the participants that the use of narcotics was not only injurious to its user’s health but affects their families as well. He sought the cooperation of the family to discourage them from using drugs. He maintained that ANF was not only keeping a check on drug smuggling, but also actively engaged in awareness as well as treatment of addicts. During the seminar, Colonel (R) Tahir and Sardar Abdul Khaliq also addressed the participants. They highlighted the adversities of addiction and its ill-effects on individuals and families. Talking to the seminar, Vice Chancellor UPR, Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan said, Drug addiction in our youth is a serious issue. Drug addiction is harmful not only for addicted but also for society. Long-term use of drugs causes permanent and harmful effects on the body and mind. Addiction of narcotics must be eradicated from its roots to safeguard the youth and prosperity of Pakistan. He emphasized the causes and effects of drug abuse and said there should be an awareness of the dangerous effects of narcotics in the youth of Pakistan. In the end, Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan presented souvenir to honorable guests. Brigadier Abdul Hameed also presented souvenir to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan.

Pet ShowThe Directorate of Students Affairs organized, “Pet Show” in collaboration with Pakistan Kennel Club, on December 03, 2019 in the main campus of the University of Poonch Rawalakot. The purpose of the show was to bring awareness in the community about importance of raising domestic pets and information about the diseases and their prevention. Large number of students and people from local surroundings, Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the show. During the show, different kinds of cats, dogs and birds were presented. Different veterinary stalls from various organization were also displayed. In the end certificated were given to the pet owners in different categories.

Solidarity Walk On August 05, 2019, India’s Hindu nationalist government unilaterally wiped out the autonomy of the Jammu & Kashmir State by revoking nearly all of Article 370. The article allowed the state a certain amount of autonomy-its own constitution, a separate flag and freedom to make laws. Indian Government sent thousands of army troops to quell any possible unrest the move would bring in Jammu & Kashmir State. Government authorities severed internet connections, mobile phone lines and even land lines, casting Kashmir into an information black hole and put people under lockdown. In solidarity with people of Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir, University of Poonch Rawalakot organized a rally on November 04, 2019. Waving Kashmiri flags and chanting freedom slogans, students and employees of the University marched from main campus of the university and reached to the Sabir Shaheed Stadium where they staged a demonstration. Anti-Narcotics Awareness Walk on “Say No to Drugs”The Directorate of Student Affairs organized, “Say No to Drugs Walk” to create awareness about narcotics, on November 05, 2019. The Anti-Narcotics Awareness Walk was started from main campus and ended in District Complex Rawalakot. Large number of students, Faculty members and people from different walks of life participated in the walk. The participants expressed their resolve and determination to eradicate drugs from society.

Dr. Rasul Jan, led the rally. Addressing the rally, Vice-Chancellor denounced the Indian atrocities and said that the fifth of August is the blackest day. The Indian government, like thieves, snatched away everything from the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He affirmed that academia must highlight the just cause of Kashmir through social media and other forums. The rally was also addressed by Deans of the Faculties and students from different departments.

Independence DayIndependence Day was celebrated at Main Campus and Khauta-Haveli Campus on August 14, 2019. Ghazi-e-Millat Death Anniversary CommemorationUniversity of the Poonch Rawalakot organized one day Seminar to Commemorate the 16th Death Anniversary of Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Founder President of the Azad Government of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on July 31, 2019. The President of the Azad Government of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir H. E. Sardar Masood Khan was the Chief Guest. A delegation of prominent European Parliamentarians led by Jammu and Kashmir Self-determination Movement Intonational (JKSDMI) participated in the seminar. The delegation was led by Richard Corbett MEP, Leader of the Labour Par-ty in Europe. The delegation included Lorraine Kirkwood, Assistant to Richard Corbett, Irina Von Wicse MEP, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Hussain Khan, Assistant to Irina

Veterinary Medical CampsFaculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences serves local community by organizing veterinary medical camps. Veterinary medical camps are regularly arranged by the Department in collaboration with Chinar Vet-Care Society under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Zubair, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The subject of Veterinary Clinical Sciences deal with practical training of various diseases of livestock and poultry. Due to hilly topography of the area, sometimes it is not convenient for farmers to bring their animals in Veterinary Clinic of the Faculty. Therefore, to provide services to the livestock and poultry farmers and giving practical training to the students, these camps are regularly arranged on monthly basis in different villages. The services provided in these camps include free checkup, free medication and pregnancy diagnosis.

Directorate of Agricultural Farms launched 2nd tree plantation drive, “Plant for Pakistan: Billion Tree Tsunami” of the year on February 27, 2020 in collaboration with Department of Forest, Government of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The Vice-Chancellor University of Poonch Rawalakot, Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan inaugurated the drive by planting. Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid, Dean Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Siddique Awan, Dean Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Habib Ahmed Rathore, Dean Faculty of Management & Humanities & Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Muzamil Hussain Siddiqui, Director ORIC, Chief Librarian and faculty members planted tress at the occasion. Addressing to the participants, Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan said, “Plantation is not an option, but a necessity to save the country for future generations”. The country’s youth must participate in the drive to avert the dangers posed by climate change, including high temperatures, glacial melting and desertification, the Vice-Chancellor said. Lastly, he urged to the participants that together we can reverse the ills of climate change by persistently planting trees.

Mushroom Cultivation

The Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of the Poonch, Rawalakot organized a one-day workshop on “Mushroom Cultivation” at Faculty of Agriculture on September 19, 2019. The workshop was with the cooperation of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) Islamabad. Prof. Dr. Rasool Jan, Vice-Chancellor University of Poonch Rawalakot was the Chief Guest while Mr. Shehzad Iqbal, Zonal Chief, ZTBL was the Special Guest of the event. The event was started with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by the lecture on Mushroom Cultivation by Mr. Muhammad Kashif, Expert from ZTBL, Islamabad. After that lecture, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, shared his views and highlighted the importance of mushroom cultivation in AJK region. Shield was presented to Mr. Muhammad Kashif for delivering lecture and providing training to the participants of the workshop. In this event more than 100 participants from different origins and disciplines including Department of Agriculture, AJK, local farmers, Faculty members and students participated and appreciated the efforts made by the University of Poonch Rawalakot. The Chief Guest of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Rasool Jan, also shared his views with the participants and emphasized to develop interaction with the local communities to establish infrastructure for growing mushrooms in AJK region. Later, in the evening, hands-on training session was conducted to train all the participants of the workshop which was very much appreciated by the local farmers and other participants.

Clean Banjonsa Lake Campaign

Directorate of Students Affairs, University of Poonch Rawalakot, launched clean Banjonsa Lake campaign on August 10, 2019 to clean up the Lake. The students removed garbage and collected debris from the shore and shallow waters of the lake to protect aquatic life and clean the environment.

Plantation Drive

Directorate of Agricultural Farms launched 1st tree plantation drive of the year on August 1st, 2019 in collaboration with Department of Forest, Government of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Fruits preservation and processing to obtain value added food products

The Department of Food Science & Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of the Poonch, Rawalakot organized a one-day workshop on “Fruits Preservation and Processing to obtain Value added Food Products” at Faculty of Agriculture on July 18, 2019. Dr. Imran Hayat Associate Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology was the coordinator of the workshop while Dr. Sartaj Ali, Associate Professor, Department of Food and Agriculture, Karakorum International University Gilgit-Baltistan was the resource person of the workshop. The workshop was presided by Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed while Vice Chancellor University of Poonch, Prof. Dr. Rasool Jan was the chief guest of the workshop. Officers from Agriculture department, farmers, journalists, and large number of personals from civil society participated in the workshop. After recitation from the Holy Quran, workshop coordinator Dr. Imran Hayat briefed the participants that different fruits are extensively produced in Azad Kashmir but due to lack of awareness of people about various processing and preservation techniques, postharvest losses of fruits are exceeding 40%. The main objective of workshop is to create awareness among the people about various fruits processing techniques to minimize wastage of fruits in the region. Resource person Dr. Sartaj Ali briefed the participants in detail about fruits processing and preservation as well as various techniques to obtain different value-added food products. Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed appreciated the efforts of Department of Food Science and Technology for rendering advisory services to the community to minimize the wastage of fruits in the region. The Chief guest Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan briefed the participants that in addition to teaching and research, University is making utmost efforts to transfer the knowledge to the farmers and local community so that they can be acquainted with the latest techniques to cope with the problem of food security in the region.

The Directorate of sports is working hard for the promotion of Sports activities at UPR by providing maximum facilities to the students. The Directorate engages the students in several sports activities to bring a sense of responsibility, discipline, obedience, punctuality and to generate the quality of leadership and patience besides the sportsmanship. These activities go a long way in the development of character and personality. The Directorate organized Inter Faculty Games during the year 2019-20. Faculty LeadershipLeadership development enables individuals to enhance their capabilities to lead others. It emphases on developing the leadership capabilities and attitudes of people. Led by highly qualified faculty, UPR is a safe but challenging environment for learning, practice, reflection and goal setting. Faculty are involved in enhancing their capabilities by performing their role as members of various societies, editors and reviewers of research journals and their interest in such activities is on the rise. During 2019-20 the faculty reviewed research articles from 53 journals, served in editorial boards of 27 research journals and represented university in 25 national and international societies.

1. Engr. Dr. Bilal Ahmad served as Judge in COMSATS VISIO Spark 2019-2020 at COMSATS WAH Campus.

2. Dr. Mehdi Maqbool has been appointed as Vice President (AJK) of Pakistan Society for Horticultural Science (PSHS) for year 2020-2021.

3. Dr. M. Faraz Khan working as deputy director, financial assistance and university advancement played a key role in securing 1167 scholarship slots (more than combined number of slots of all the other universities of AJK) under Ehsas Scholarship Program, funded by Govt. of Pakistan.

Student LeadershipStudents are the center of focus at UPR. Besides providing best available teaching facilities, quality education and training them with latest technologies, UPR through its Directorate of Student Affairs organized a vast variety of on campus intellectual, social and religious programs for building student leadership in global perspective. Similarly, students were trained, encouraged and facilitated to participates in off-campus activities. During the year, besides organizing different on-campus programs, UPR students also represented the university in different off-campus events.

Small & Medium Enterprises FinanceDirectorate of Student Affairs organized a one-day seminar on, “Small & Medium Enterprises Finance” in collaboration with State Bank of Pakistan, BSC, Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir on December 13, 2019. Vice-Chancellor UPR was the chief guest. The objective of the seminar is to discuss challenges and tools to enhance access to finance by small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) at the national and regional level. The seminar facilitated interactive discussions among all participants to extract real needs and opportunities towards SME finance in the region.

Body Mind and Spirit TechniquesDirectorate of Student Affairs organized, “Body Mind and Spirit Techniques” Motivational Workshop on December 04, 2019. The workshop was attended by large number of students from different Faculties.

Project ExhibitionDepartment of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology organized final year students Project Exhibition on November 14, 2019. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan inaugurated the Final Year Project Exhibition as Chief Guest. The final Year Project Exhibition provides opportunity to the students to exhibit the knowledge which they have learned in their Degree program. The aim of the exhibition was to prepare students for real world engineering problems.

Khatam-e-Nabuwat Seminar Khatam-e-Nabuwat Seminar was organized by The Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Management, Humanities & Social Sciences on November 05, 2019. Addressing to the participants, Wing Commander (R) Dr. Zameer Akhter Khan, Director Motivation & Religious affairs PAF Air Head quarter Peshawar said that he life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a role model for everyone and all the blessings of Allah are attached to it. We should make efforts so that our students can learn from the Prophet’s life. Our Prophet was an honest and truthful trader, he said. The misinterpretation of the Islam and its teachings is misleading the world. Therefore, it is our duty to present the true face of Islam.

Mental Health DayA Mental Health day was organized by Department of Psychology, Faculty of Management, Humanities & Social Sciences on October 10, 2019. The theme of the event was in line with WHO’s theme of mental health of the year, “Suicide Prevention”. The purpose of the day was to bring awareness about mental stress and possible ways to deal with mental stress of daily life. During the day, different stalls were organized where stress management techniques were taught with the help of different fun activities. The event was greatly appreciated and applauded by the participants.

Career Building SeminarA seminar on career building was organized by the Department of Economics, Faculty of Management, Humanities & Social Sciences with the collaboration of (PUBCA) on August 8, 2019. Career Building Seminar was organized to address career planning needs. The speakers in the seminar said that It is the major need of students to get proper guidance on career building issues like selection of a career, available career options, requirements, nature of the work and work environment of different careers, self-awareness, personality development and entrepreneurship.

Kahuta-Haveli CampusMilad Event Kahuta-Haveli Campus organized Milad event on November 22, 2019 with great devotion and according to the true spirit of Islam. Besides students and faculty members, the community’s women participated in the last event with great zeal and spirit.

Prize Distribution CeremonyThe Department of Computer Science and Education arranged prize distribution ceremony on the completion of 8 weeks computer-based skilled development programme in December 2019. The honorable vice chancellor, Dr. Rasul Jan bestowed his presence as the Chief Guest in the prize distribution ceremony.

Ms. Mehrub Razaq, M.Phil. scholar of Chemistry Department, Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences has been elected as Speaker of State Youth Assembly, Azad Kashmir Chapter and President State youth Assembly, Women Wing Poonch for the year 2019-20.

Mr. Qazi Inaam Ul Hakeem, student Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences was elected as member State Youth Assembly in 2018. Due to his extraordinary educational and literary services, he was elected as Youth Minister for Education. During 2019-20, he was elected as Youth Prime Minister of State Youth Assembly AJ&K which is a model Youth Parliament of AJ&K having mock parliamentary concept. He has also managed the career counseling and motivational session in different educational institutions across the whole AJ&K, also plays an active role in State and National level issues of the youth.

Health Centre/Medical Facilities

Medical Facilities AvailableMedical & Health facilities are available in the University of the Poonch, Rawalakot. A medical center is operating in the main campus run by a male and female doctor. Beside medical center a Qarshi Health Care Clinic and Hamdard Free Mobile Clinics are also working to serve the local community. During the year, more than 2000 patients were examined and treated at University Medical Center. The University Ambulance service provides intra campus emergency service. Two ambulances were always ready for transportation of patients who were referred from University Medical Center to other secondary and tertiary care centers. Emergency COVID-9 campaign was lodged during which screening was conducted and prevention measures were initiated. Temperature guns and sanitizers were provided in all Faculties, Departments and other administrative office. The Medical Center regularly monitored the employees present in campus during the pandemic.
