Parking Services works to make parking on campus as easyand convenient as possible. All vehicles on campus mustprominently display a parking permit.

Visitors have several options for obtaining parking permits. Dailypermits are $4.00 per day and available at the Parking ServicesBuilding (PSB101) or Campus Information Center (CIC) located atthe main USF entrance. These hang-tags are validated by scratch-ing off the current date.

Occasional visitors may obtain a free courtesy permit (up to threetimes per semester) good only in the Park-n-Ride lots, and thenuse the free Campus Bull Runner shuttle buses to travel aroundcampus.

Frequent visitors may wish to purchase a monthly scratch-off per-mit for $43, available at Parking Services or the CampusInformation Center. If you are a frequent visitor to campus, the“Friends of USF” semester or yearly pass may be a better option foryou. Please visit our Web site at www.usf.edu/parking_services forrates and additional information.

Visitors familiar with the campus may use daily permit vendingmachines conveniently located at or near most visitor lots. Thesemachines will accept bills and all types of U.S. coins, but do notissue change. For shorter visits, 1 and 2-hour parking meters arelocated in surface lots throughout the campus. 1, 2 and 4-hour“Pay by Space” visitor parking is located on the 2nd level of theCollins Blvd Garage. Payment at this location is by credit or bankcard only.

During your visit, you’ll see shuttle buses moving about the cam-pus. Please feel free to use this service. Route maps are posted atthe covered stops. Effective Spring ’08, a valid USF ID or bus passwill be required to ride the shuttle. Visitors can request a shuttlebus pass at Parking Services, or at the Campus Information Center,or can ride without a pass if accompanied by a USF ID cardholder.

Motorist AssistanceParking and Transportation Services Motorist Assistance Program(MAP) provides students, visitors and staff the following services:• Opening your car when you have locked your keys inside • Providing air for low or under-inflated tires (sorry but we do

not change flat tires) or sealant in the event of a flat tire • Jump-starting your vehicle.For assistance call 974-3990 option 5.

This complimentary service is provided from 8:00 a.m. until 8:30p.m., Monday - Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.Friday (except USF holidays). After 8:30 p.m. Monday throughThursday and after 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, please call Allied Bartonsecurity dispatch at 974-3952. Note: Times may change duringthe summer semester. We have prioritized this service so thatresponse times are typically less than 15 minutes and, with fewexceptions, no more than 30 minutes.

Founded in 1956, the University of South Florida was estab-lished as the first public university to specifically addressthe needs of Florida's rapidly emerging urban regions.

Beginning with 2,000 students and five buildings, the universityhas developed into the nation's ninth largest public universitywith an annual economic impact on the regional economy of$3.2 billion. USF serves more than 45,000 students on campusesin Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland andoffers 219 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, spe-cialist and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine.

To enhance the quality of student life on campus, a new230,000-square foot student union is scheduled to open inAugust 2008 and in the fall of 2009, a new $68-million resi-dence hall to house an additional 1,000 students.

Engaging CommunitiesWith the resources and the expertise to drive progress andchange lives, USF is committed to community engagement.University faculty, staff and students volunteer 600,000 hours oftheir time to charitable causes each year. With more than 2.5 million residents, Tampa Bay isthe most populous and affluent metropolitan area inFlorida. A thriving business community, vibrant arts

scene and intriguing historic districts make the area one of theworld's most desirable in which to live.

Named one of the five most diverse, integrated urban areas in theUnited States by the U.S. Census Bureau, Tampa is a dynamic,multicultural city rated by Hispanic Magazine as the “TopCity in the U.S. for Hispanics.” Expansion ManagementMagazine has listed Tampa among “America's Best Places toLive and Work,” and the Forbes/Milken Institute listed TampaBay as one of the “Best Places for Business and Career.”

From historic Ybor City or the nearby Greek community ofTarpon Springs, to the thrills of Busch Gardens, there are numer-ous attractions, social and sports venues, performance halls,museums, theaters, shopping locations and restaurants to explore.Add in an average annual temperature of 72 degrees, and it's nowonder nearly 90,000 of 200,000 graduates since USF's firstcommencement in 1964 continue to live in the Tampa Bay area.

BusinessUSF recognizes the value of its location in a major metropolitanarea and links its research, teaching and experiential learning tothe vast resources of the area. The ArtsCulture aficionados relish the amazing number of choices avail-able throughout Tampa Bay. The Tampa Bay Performing ArtsCenter's 300,000 square-foot complex is the largest and busiestin the South with on-going local, national and international per-formances including symphony, opera, ballet and Broadway the-ater. The Florida Orchestra performs at Ruth Eckerd Hall inClearwater and the Mahaffey Theatre in St. Petersburg, as well as

at the Performing Arts Center in Tampa. USF's Sun Dome,College of Visual and Performing Arts and Tampa's St. PeteTimes Forum are the sites of additional concerts and performanc-es that appeal to every age and taste in music.

MuseumsUSF's Contemporary Art Museum complements several othermuseums in the area, including the University of Tampa'sScarfone Gallery, the Tampa Bay History Center and the Museumof African-American Art. Other museums of note include: theDali Museum, the Florida Holocaust Museum, the FloridaInternational Museum, the Tampa Museum of Art, the Museumof Science and Industry, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Johnand Mable Ringling Museum of Art.

SportsTampa Bay is a hotbed of sports activity boasting professionalteams in football, baseball, hockey and arena football thatinclude the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tampa Bay Rays, theTampa Bay Lightning, and the Tampa Bay Storm. The New YorkYankees also reside in Tampa during spring training and playtheir games at Steinbrenner Field. And USF's membership in theBig East Conference has added excitement to the college sportsscene.

RecreationThe Tampa Bay area offers plenty of opportunity for fun, adven-ture and relaxation. Miles of the most pristine beaches in thecountry are an easy drive away and are available for year-roundswimming, boating, jet-skiing and fishing. Theme parks areplentiful with major attractions like Busch Gardens andAdventure Island minutes from the Tampa campus. Walt DisneyWorld, Epcot Center, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventureand Sea World are about an hour away. And for nature enthusi-asts, The Florida Aquarium and Lowry Park Zoo provide perfecteco-driven diversions. Parks, trails, rivers and lakes for camping,canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, hiking and other outdoor activi-ties abound.

TravelRecognized as “America's Favorite Airport,” Tampa InternationalAirport (TIA) is consistently voted one of the best in the world.Centrally located, TIA is just 14 miles from the USF Tampacampus.

USF’s College of Visual & Performing Arts is a college of artistic dis-ciplines and expressions that offers a wide variety of musical con-certs, art exhibits and theatre and dance performances. The col-

lege consists of three schools — Art and Art History, Music, Theatre and Dance —and the Institute for Research in Art, which includes the USF Contemporary ArtMuseum and Graphicstudio. All are involved in creative research and each educates,challenges and inspires students for leadership in the arts.

An integral part of the campus culture, the College of Visual & Performing Arts offersnearly 320 performances, lectures, symposia and exhibitions annually, which areattended by over 50,000 people. Each school within the college offers students theopportunity to perform and create, developing their artistic talents while sharing theirvisions with audiences both within the local community and throughout the world.

The Contemporary Art Museum is free and open to the public and houses local andnational exhibits. Hours are Monday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturdays 1pm-4pm.

Many visitors to USF begin their trip inthe center of campus in one of theuniversity's community venues or

administration offices. Undergraduate AdmissionInformation Sessions, for example, originate inthe Welcome Center on the ground floor of theJohn & Grace Allen Administration Building.New Graduate Student Information Sessionstake place in the Marshall Student Center.

This area of campus is also where the majority ofstudent-related services can be found. The Officeof the Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions,Scholarship Programs, State Aid Programs, theHonors College, the Career Center, StudentDisability Services and much more are located inthe Student Services Building. The MarshallStudent Center, the hub of student life, hostsnumerous places for students to eat, socialize andstudy.

A variety of special functions are hosted in thepresidential residence, the Lifsey House, which isadjacent to the Sam & Martha Gibbons AlumniCenter.

USF's presence has generated a network ofhighly specialized teaching hospitals, includ-ing the James Haley Veterans' Hospital, H.Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and ResearchInstitute, Shriners Hospital, All Children'sHospital and Tampa General Hospital.Physician faculty members in the College ofMedicine provide the highest quality healthcare in the region. Research in the College of Engineering is conducted in numerous, diverse dis-ciplines: chemical, civil, environmental, electrical, industrial and mechanicalengineering; computer science; urban transportation; microelectronics;

nanotechnology; biomolecular delivery systems; hydrologic and aquatic systems; wire-less and microwave technologies; robotics; and software testing.

Annually, the Engineering Expo showcases professors, students, government agencies,private industry and the latest technology created in the college. Exhibits includesearch-and-rescue robots, student projects, biomedical engineering marvels, a chemicalmagic show and industry demonstrations.

USF's Center for Urban Transportation Research conducts $8 million in research annu-ally with public and private sector groups throughout the United States. Recent proj-ects include those with the Florida Legislature and the Florida Department ofTransportation.

The Tampa Bay Technology Incubator exists to support technology research as a catalyst for economic development and advocates the development and construction offacilities for high-technology companies and related support functions. In promotingresearch with companies and the University of South Florida, the Tampa BayTechnology Incubator seeks to address the needs of local high technology employers insuch areas as engineering, biometrics and other technologies.

At USF, sports and recreational activities abound for both participants and spec-tators. From the 18 intercollegiate athletic teams that compete in the Big EastConference to intramural sports and other activities, there are plenty of things

to do for the USF community and public alike.

As proud members of the Big East Conference, USF fields a number of teams, including

Bulls football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, track and field, tennis, golf

and more. Bulls football home games are played at Raymond James Stadium, home of the

Tampa Bay Buccaneers. USF’s 10,000-seat Sun Dome is home court for men's and

women’s basketball. USF’s sports and recreational facilities include an 18-hole golf course

on the Tampa campus.

The Campus Recreation Center is free to students and open to faculty, staff and mem-bers of the USF Alumni Association.

Tickets for all sporting events can be purchased at the Marshall Center ticket officeand/or Entry 3 at the Sun Dome ticket office, 9am-6pm, Monday - Friday. For seasonschedules, tickets or more information about the USF sports teams, contact the USFAthletics Office at 1-800-GO-BULLS (462-8557) or on the web atwww.gousfbulls.com.

USF's regional campuses address the unique needs of their communities. USF St. Petersburg offers students a strongliberal arts curriculum coupled by professional programs in business and education, as well as “programs of dis-tinction” in: journalism and media studies; social responsibility and corporate reporting; Florida studies; and

environmental science, policy and geography. USF Sarasota-Manatee opened the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management to serv-ice the West Central Florida tourism industry. And USF Lakeland, located at the heart of the emerging Florida High Tech Corridor,leads the university in the field of information technology.
