Campus Map & Access to the UOSThe Incheon International Airport (IIA), in the city of Incheon, is the main international airport in Korea. It takes about a 90-minute car ride
to the University of Seoul. Fees are USD75 for a regular taxi and USD95 for a deluxe taxi. For more information on transportation from
the airport to downtown Seoul, please visit the IIA website at http://www.airport.or.kr.
1. By Taxi from Incheon International Airport From the airport, it costs approximately 80,000 - 90,000 Won by taxi up for 4 people to the University of Seoul. The fare of regular
taxi starts from 3,000 Won, while deluxe taxis start from 5,000 Won. Most taxi drivers know the direction to the University of Seoul,
pronounced as ‘Seoul SiripDae-hak-kyo’.
2. By Limousine Bus from Incheon International Airport You are advised to find the bus stop “5B” or “12A” at the exit of Incheon International Airport. The limousine, # 6002, will take you to
Cheongryangni, the bus’s final destination. The fare of limousine is 10,000 Won. Get off at the Cheongryangni stop and take a taxi or
take the university school bus to the University of Seoul.
3. Using Professional Airport Pick-up Service If you prefer to use a professional airport pick-up service, you must make a reservation at +82 32 743 7911. The cost is about 85,000
won (up to 4 people) and its website can be found at http://www.airhelp.co.kr.

ProgramIn order to accommodate the aspirations of individual students, the UOS has designed
a curriculum that flexibly combines courses in the Korean language, Asian and Korean
studies and the students’ major field of study, which are offered in both English and Korean.
Courses offered in English can be found on page 31 of this booklet.
1. Korean Language ProgramThe UOS offers a set of Korean language courses in 3 levels: Korean language (3 hours/
week, beginning/intermediate/advanced levels) and Practical Korean (2 hours /week,
beginning/intermediate/advanced levels).
2. Asian & Korean studies The courses are taught in English and cover the introductory level of Korean and
Asianstudies. There are five to seven courses each semester, and each course requires
students to attend three hours per week.
3. Courses of the students’ major field of studyStudents can take the courses taught in English and Korea according to their major field
of study.
4. Credits and GradesThe minimum credit requirement for
exchange students is 6 credits and the
maximum is 20 credits per semester. 1
credit is equivalent to 15 class hours.
At the end of their period of exchange,
all exchange students’ having earned
credits are presented with an official
transcript of academic records specifying
courses studied.
Fees & ScholarshipExchange students pay for tuition at their
home universities and it is waived at the
UOS. For the exchange students of regular
semesters, UOS provides a monthly stipend of KRW 400,000 (approx. USD 380) to the
students whose home universities agree to support UOS exchange students reciprocally.
There is also a possibility of receiving GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) with the nomination
of the UOS for incoming exchange students. Details of scholarship options can be found on
page 24 of this booklet.

Regular Semester ProgramOverviewExchange students are those who have applied and are nominated by overseas universities
holding an agreement for running student exchange programs with the University of Seoul.
Exchange students may study for a semester or up to two semesters and can take courses
offered at the UOS according to their main field of study. Exchange student candidates can
apply through the International Office of their home universities. Tuition is paid to the home
university, and in most cases, the application and documentation fee is waived.
Eligibility and Application ProcessStudents from the partner universities of the UOS can apply for the UOS Student Exchange
Program. Applications should proceed with the approval of the International Office of the
students’ home universities. After the home universities’ nominations to the UOS, each
student is required to follow on-line application process of the UOS through http://iice.uos.
ac.kr.

Student Exchange Program
International Summer SchoolOverviewThe International Summer School (ISS) program at the University of Seoul (UOS) was first
established in 2000, and it has provided international students with a great opportunity to
learn about Korean culture and tradition. Reorganized in 2005, the ISS has been receiving
an increased amount of funds from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and offers various
incentives to the participants coming from UOS partner universities of the UOS and many
prestigious universities all over the world.

Global Internship ProgramOverviewInternship Program provides an opportunity to get real-world,
hands-on experience in a professional environment. The UOS
Global Internship Program gives international exchange students a
chance to work with Lotte Hotel Seoul and International Exchange
& Cultural Promotion Institute. Interns are expected to work side-
by-side with their supervisors and to obtain academic credits (3
credits).

Dual Degree ProgramOverviewThe UOS offers a dual degree program that allows students to
simultaneously earn two bachelor degrees from two institutions;
at home and abroad. Students are exposed to comprehensive
and integrative environments in relation to their major by studying
abroad. The UOS plans to gradually expand the number of partner
universities for the dual degree program.

Application
Applicants must finish undergraduate education for at least two
years after they complete elementary, junior-high and high school
education. They can transfer to the second year (sophomore) or
third year (junior)

C. Master’s and doctoral courses of Human and Social Science

- Full-tuition Scholarship is provided to the 10% of the
international students who are recommended by the head
professor of their department, and approved by Dean
ofGraduate School.
- Half-tuition scholarship is provided to the 30% of the
international students who are recommended by the head
professor of their department, and approved by Dean

D. Termination of Scholarship: International students with a GPA
of below 3.0 in the previous semester (excludes new students)
E. International students are subject to a new eligibility criteria if
the UOS scholarship policy changes.
F. Recipients of the international students’ scholarships are also
eligible to apply for other research scholarships available within
the UOS.
G. Recipients of extramural scholarships are not eligible for full-
tuition or half-tuition scholarships.
Above scholarship rule is subject to change according to the
Academic year.

OverviewKorean Language and Culture Program (KLCP) offers intensive
Korean language courses and cultural orientation to Korea.
KLCP offers 4 terms a year, and each term runs for 10 weeks
for all levels (6 levels). The courses focus on speaking, listening,
grammar and writing. Class size is small (maximum 15),
which enables each student to receive personal guidance and
encouragement as well as the benefits by enriched cultural
activities around Seoul.
Eligibility & Application Process Eligibility: All applicants must be at least 15 years of age and
a high school student or the equivalent. Applicants must meet
Korean visa requirements.

(4) A copy of your passport page showing name and citizenship

Scholarships
For regular semester exchange students Monthly Allowance (400,000/month) is provided to the exchange students based on the agreement with their home universities.
The scholarship is given to every student’s bank account, and they will be guided how to open an account at the on-campus bank on
their arrival at UOS.
For International Summer School exchange students Tuition, Registration Fee, Cultural Activities and partial field trip fee, and housing fees are waived or given to the participating exchange
students as scholarships.

GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) from Korean Government ‘GKS (Global Korea Scholarship)’ is a scholarship program that is supported by the government of the Republic of Korea, and is
implemented by the National Institute for International Education, which is an organization operating under the auspices of the Ministry of
Education, Science and Technology.
The Korean Government selects a limited number of eligible universities around the nation to allocate a certain number of scholarships to
each university. The University of Seoul is selected as one of the eligible institutions.

UOS buddy (Seoulmates)The UOS offers a buddy program (Seoulmates) to the inbound
exchange students. Seoulmates are UOS students who will help
the new comers to adjust themselves to the life in Korea. They
pick up exchange students at the airport on their arrival in Korea,
plan and lead many of the cultural immersion programs supported
by the IICE office.
UOS Tutor UOS Tutor is a small study group composed of international
students and UOS Korean students (1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 matched
based on their studying fields). International students can choose
the subjects to be tutored by Korean students, such as Korean
language, English, Mathematics, or their major courses. Korean
students can also learn foreign languages from international
students. Each tutoring group should meet 30 hours per
semester. All the students receiving scholarships are required to
participate in the UOS Tutor program.
Global LoungeGlobal Lounge is a place where international students and UOS
Korean students can get togetherand exchange languages and
cultures under free and fun atmospheres. International students
could also work as paid employers like staffs and language
teachers.

Course RegistrationOnce a student is admitted to the UOS
as an exchange student, the regional
coordinators of the IICE office and UOS
buddies (Seoulmates) will contact and
direct ly assist the student ’s course
registrat ion before arr iva l to Korea.
Normally the list of courses is prepared in
mid February for spring semester and in
mid August for fall semester.
Alien RegistrationAll foreigners planning to stay in Korea
for more than 90 days must report to the
Seoul Immigration Office (89-4, Kyoungun-
dong, Jongno-gu, Tel: 732-6214, 6215)
and register for the Alien Registration Card
(외국인등록증) within 90 days from the date
of arrival. To apply for the Alien Registration
Card, you should already have a long-term
visa.
Within the orientation session for new
exchange students, you will submit all
the documents which are required to
complete the Alien Registration. It takes
approximately 10 business days for
the Immigration Office to process the
application. Applicants must leave their
passport with the Immigration Office during
this period and the office will return it
through IICE Office when the application is
completed.

2,500 seats and 600,000 volumes as well
as the digital library and a computerized
catalogue system that is accessible

l ibrary information system, providing
more professional academic information
and collections as well as various library

Health ServicesThe University Health Service Center is
located on the 2nd floor of the Student
Hall. (Open from 9:00 to 18:00)
Examination, prescription and medicine for
simple illnesses such as cold or indigestion
will be able to be covered for free.
Student CafeteriaStudent cafeterias are located in the
Student Hall and in the Natural Science
Building. Korean dishes and western
dishes are available. Prices normally range
from 2,000 won to 5,000 won per meal but
may further vary depending on the menu of
the day. Student cafeterias run from 8:00
to 10:00 for breakfast, from 11:00 to 14:00
for lunch, and from 15:00 to 18:30 for
dinner on weekdays and Saturdays, and
are closed on Sundays.

Campus Map & Access to the UOSThe Incheon International Airport (IIA), in the city of Incheon, is the main international airport in Korea. It takes about a 90-minute car ride
to the University of Seoul. Fees are USD75 for a regular taxi and USD95 for a deluxe taxi. For more information on transportation from
the airport to downtown Seoul, please visit the IIA website at http://www.airport.or.kr.
1. By Taxi from Incheon International Airport From the airport, it costs approximately 80,000 - 90,000 Won by taxi up for 4 people to the University of Seoul. The fare of regular
taxi starts from 3,000 Won, while deluxe taxis start from 5,000 Won. Most taxi drivers know the direction to the University of Seoul,
pronounced as ‘Seoul SiripDae-hak-kyo’.
2. By Limousine Bus from Incheon International Airport You are advised to find the bus stop “5B” or “12A” at the exit of Incheon International Airport. The limousine, # 6002, will take you to
