UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT IN-KIND GIFT FORM INSTRUCTIONS

IN-KIND GIFTS (NON-CASH GIFTS): A non-cash item donated to the University that meets the IRS charitable donation regulations as stated in IRS Publication 526 is considered to be a gift-in-kind and should be recorded on a University In-Kind Gift Acceptance Form, then sent to University Advancement for recording and receipting purposes.

CONTRIBUTIONS THAT DO NOT QUALIFY: Contributions such as value of time or services, appraisal fees, or contributions in exchange for a benefit do not qualify as a gift-in-kind. (Please see IRS Publication 526 for details).

NOTE: Please attempt to make sure that all non-cash gifts are made in compliance with Federal requirements such as the IRS Form 8283 (Noncash Charitable Contributions) so that our donors may receive proper receipting documentation. Formally, this is the donor's responsibility for his or her own protection.

REQUIRED INFORMATION: Based on the findings of the Chancellor's Audit Team, it is imperative that all in-kind gift forms be accurately completed before acceptance can be approved by the University. The in-kind gift form submitted without the following information will be returned for completion prior to processing: · Required Signature(s) · Donor Name and Address · Company Contact Name · In-Kind-Gift Value Amount · Hard Copy Proof of Valuation · Designation/Account Number · Detailed Description of Gift

GIFT VALUE: Documentation verifying the value of the gift must accompany all regular in-kind gift forms (i.e. invoice, appraisal, written quote, copy of catalog prices, etc.). The value of the gift must be determined through outside sources, not University personnel. In-kind gifts submitted without value verification may be subject to delays in processing.

AUTHORIZED SIGNATURES: Please have appropriate department signatures on in-kind gift forms before forwarding them to University Advancement. Forms without authorizing signatures will be returned to issuing department.

DONOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Once University Advancement receives the completed in-kind gift form, an acknowledgement of the gift will be sent in the form of an official gift receipt from the University Foundation. This receipt will not contain the value of the gift but identify the item donated.

All forms are available from University Advancement. If you need copies or assistance in completing these forms, please call 530-898-4488.
