It is not really easy for me to track out where the position of Indonesia Men team on this round of nine was. All I know is they were playing in the first table against BRIDGE ++ and it looks like this was a swiss team game, so I would guess Indonesia was the second place? There were 13 rounds to be finished, and the top twelve would be playing in the final A, it was still a big chance for Indonesia to get the last medal in this XXXVI-th International Bridge Festival Albena. We will not confer the first board as it went normal 3NT and 5{, both were made with one overtrick to flatten the board. A big swing then occured in the next board. Board: 2. It puzzles me with the 5{ bid from Kustrijant. This was probably leading to the wrong decision that Sie made, 5[. One off soon when opponents started cashing the two top diamonds

2{ was not clarified in the bidding but I guess it was a well known bid for spade taking out and double is used to a strong hand. A spade lead followed with a club return from South induced West to drop the [Q. After cashing the three heart tricks, Sumarauw tried to steal a diamond trick (but fail) before claiming his whole trick for +650.

I would say that Danailov’s double in the first round violated the standard rule for take out double. He even made another second double and fortunately got no double from Sumarauw. North got a spade lead against 4} and ruffed the continuation. A club to East’s Ace then a heart won by dummy with Ace. We can easily see four losers in this hand, one each in spade and heart, and two in diamond which are unavoidable. These were also the losers during their play so their opponent picked up a somewhat +100 for 7 IMPs.

The difference was 150 then Indonesia earned another 4 IMPs to recover their loss, the final result was 19-18, converting to 10.44-9.56 for the victorious of Bridge ++

Barelang Bridge

It is really not worth if you just come to this wonderful island, Batam for playing bridge and do not try to go

spending your piece of time to several places I would like to recommend here. If you have been to Batam several

times and thought that you have experienced everything it has to offer, you might be wrong – you know I myself

am a local person, living in Batam for almost 18 years but after exploring to google, I just realized that what I

know about Batam might be less than a half of all you can explore. I just want you to not regret like me, here we

go:

1. Shopping in Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall. With less than 5 km from Golden View Hotel and we serve you a free bus to go there from championship venue, you should really take a look to the largest shopping mall in Batam, Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall. It is the most crowded and most visited mall and you can find everything there – souvenirs, electronics, clothes, foods, and perfumes.

2. Sunset at Barelang Bridge. The symmetrical architectural design of the bridge makes it a perfect sport for some creative photos or selfies, overlooking a vast stretch of sea and greenery on the nearby islands, the spectacular scenery with the sea breeze on your face. In July 16th, there will be a free Batam City Tour and this is one of our destination, so please feel free to register by confirming to committee whom you can talk to in the table of registration.

3. Nongsa Beach, is one of the best places to come if you are looking for some sand. The beach has a relaxed atmosphere and is less crowded than some other places on the islands. You will find an array of eateries lining in the beach that are a great spot if you fancy a spot of dinner or a drink while watching the sunset.

4. Have fun at Ocarina Park, has a range of signature features including a large Ferris wheel and you will find a range of rides for children of all ages as well as adults. Certainly if you are looking for a place with a range of attractions all in one place then this park is a recommended choice.

leaving about 8 HCP in partner’s hand.

3. Trivia Question

The answer is: Bob Hamman.

Bob Hamman is the most accomplished bridge

player in the last quarter of the 20th century. His long

run at the top of bridge is comparable to other great

sportsmen such as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.

His saying about 3NT is known as Hamman’s law.
