I have a hot tip for you in this cold winter weather.

I don’t want to sound like your Mom, but you listen

to me right now. Essential Oils Work!! You can use

them safely for all kinds of ailments and disorders

and get awesome results (very good on colds and flu).

This is coming from a benign sceptic who could not un-

derstand how a tiny drop of oil applied to the foot could

possibly impact a headache at the way other end of the

body. Essential oils were the stuff of folk medicine and

were quite out of date, or so I thought.

I was wrong. EO’s work because they obey the laws of

nature to bring about balance in our bio-energetic sys-

tem, thus addressing the source – the TRUE source –of

our aches, pains and illnesses, which is - distortion,

blockage and lack in our energetic body. Once we are

in balance and in full energetic mode, the body goes

ahead and heals itself. The body is smart like that.

Does that sound too simple? Well then, let me compli-

cate it up a bit with some science so that it can be may-

be more believable.

How and Why Do Nature’s Medicine, Essential Oils,

Work?

Essential oils are like the life blood of the plant and carry

the critical mechanisms needed to fight off viruses, bac-

teria and enhance healing and immunity. When humans

ingest the oils, we are able to benefit in the same way.

Someone figured it out many thousands of years ago,

and it became the most effective way to support and

heal for a long, long time.

We now know that all living things, in fact, have a subtle

energy which is vibrational in nature – sometimes called

the life force or chi. “Quantum physics has confirmed

the reality of the basic vibratory essence of life. Life en-

ergy is not static; it is kinetic,” according to Dr. C. Nor-

man Shealy, MD, PHD, one of many doctors and scien-

tists making huge strides in the study of bio-energy.

Modern science has given us the ability to measure this

electromagnetic vibrational force, showing us that es-

sential oils have the highest frequencies of any of the

natural elements. Humans operate at a high frequency

and emit specific vibrational signals for various organs,

tissues, bones as well as an overall frequency repre-

senting the whole person. Inside, the cells are also mak-

ing use of vibrations and resonance to communicate

with the other cells. See how it can get complicated?

Even more difficult is the fact that all frequency is not

the same. Some, such as what comes from WiFi, com-

mon appliances, or our most precious phone devices are

dissonant, meaning the frequency causes chaos in the

body communications and scrambles the signals. This

dissonance causes problems for us – sneaky, invisible

problems that we cannot easily recognize until symp-

toms like pain, acid reflux, fatigue begin to appear.

For example, if a healthy human resonance is measured

at 62- 68 MHz, but drops to 58 MHz due to stress or ill-

ness, an application of lavender oil resonating at 118

MHz is going to raise that compromised 58 MHz to a

normal range, thus allowing the body to operate in an

efficient manner. It might be interesting to know that

pathogens like viruses, bacteria and parasites operate at

a low resonance making them quite vulnerable to the

higher frequencies of certain oils like melaleuca which

can then take them out. Notice, I mentioned viruses for

which modern pharmacology has nothing to offer us.

Funny how nature has it all handled.

ease. Many pollutants, for example, lower frequency

and impact the body in a negative way. Again, essential

oils come to the rescue with their ability to raise the vi-

bration to acceptable levels and protect our delicate bio-

energy. Diffusing oils into the air can be an easy and

most pleasant way to bring balance into the environ-

ment. The study of frequencies raises an important

question concerning the active vibration of substances

we eat, breath and absorb.

Oils have a long track record of success. Only in recent

history did we brilliant humans decide that we could do

better by isolating particular constituents of the healing

properties of plants enabling us to synthesize them in a

lab, patent them and charge exorbitant prices for them.

Only two tiny problems exist with human meddling –

poor results and disturbing, harmful side effects. It is

necessary for all the constituents of the oils to be pre-

sent for them to be truly effective and to avoid possible

unwanted outcomes that are many times worse than the

original problem (think male erection that lasts 8 hours,

for example, although I read for some men that is a sell-

ing point.) Or how about trading high cholesterol for

pain, nausea, gas, Type 2 diabetes, confusion or memory

loss? This unhappy phenomena is due to the complexity

of our bodies and need for all the complementary pieces

of the natural plant to be present. It is like trying to

make a recipe without the seasoning – small aspect, but

rather important. Remember that old saying, “You can’t

fool Mother Nature.” Well it is still true today.

Essential Oils, or nature’s original and perfect medicine,

do work precisely with our bodies, however, sans side

effects. Advanced methods of growing and extracting

the oils with minimum processing have allowed us to

have access to nature’s most powerful remedies that

are:

Simple and safe to use

Pennies per dose

Lovely aroma

No side effects

Slowly, health care professionals are recognizing the

benefits of Essential Oils. Vanderbilt University’s Emer-

gency Room is diffusing oils to help the staff with stress

and fatigue with great results. Hopefully the hospital will

soon begin to offer patients the benefits that oils bring.

Now, with the increasing emer-

gence of mutant, drug resistant and deadly superbugs

such as MRSA and the latest CRE, it is a life or death

matter to use the most effective treatments available. It

is not even necessary to apply the oils directly to our

skin because, breathing them in is a very efficient way to

get them into the body. Some types of the purest oils

can be used internally for even faster, more powerful

results.

It turns out that essential oils have honestly earned their

long standing reputation for healing and relief and are

quite effective and can withstand the most scientific

scrutiny. But, buyer beware. Select only high quality,

therapeutic grade essential oils. The large majority of

oils are quite inferior and have had all their delicate,

health enhancing qualities processed out, except for

taste and/or aroma. No healing will occur using lemon

citrus air fresheners bought at the grocery store. It is

important to be certain to get only Certified Pure Thera-

peutic Grade Essential Oils with all the critical constitu-

ents intact. The greatest majority of oils are of inferior

quality with no health benefits whatsoever.

You will find after examination that there is an oil for just

about any problem you may have, even the most devas-

tating diseases, but I am not advising you to avoid a doc-

tor’s consultation when you have health questions. Do

consult your medical professionals for medical issues.

Do consider using EO’s as a way to avoid getting any seri-

ous problems and empowering yourself and your family

You arrive at the airline boarding gate to leave on your

vacation. Looking around at other passengers, you notice

a woman vigorously tapping on her face and torso. This

behavior—although it may appear bizarre—is one of the

safest, drug-free methods for treating fears, nervousness,

discomfort and tension, including the fear of flying. Called

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), this simple, easy to

learn, self-administered treatment can be used by people

of all ages on a wide variety of issues. It also is especially

effective used in private counseling/coaching sessions.

How Does it Work?

Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture, EFT ad-

dresses the possibility that unpleasant experiences can be

blocking the body’s energy system. These blocks can in-

volve disturbing memories—fears, stressful situations,

grief, depression, guilt, shame or worry. EFT involves

lightly tapping on specific acupuncture points on the face,

torso and hands to gently realign the body’s meridian-

energy system. EFT users agree that tapping makes them

feel significantly better in a short period of time.

Medical technology now can quantify what the ancient

Chinese knew more than 5,000 years ago. Our bodies and

minds have complex energetic pathways. Electroenceph-

alography (EEG), or brain scan measuring electrical activi-

ty, indicates that tapping decreases mental activity in the

central and front portions of the brain, allowing the fight

or flight response to release and calm to return. Accord-

ing to Ronald A. Ruden, M.D., Ph.D. in his book Why Tap-

ping Works: Speculations from the Observable Brain,

brain chemistry also may be part of the process because

stimulation of acupressure points may enhance the pro-

duction of neurotransmitters and endorphins, chemicals

that contribute to a sense of wellbeing and stress relief.

Recent studies have indicated that brief periods of tap-

ping are significantly more effective for lowering the

stress hormone cortisol in saliva when compared with

control groups taking stress management classes or nap-

ping for an hour.

EFT combines three powerful forms of energy—

intentional focus, spoken words and kinesthetic energy.

Focusing on a specific issue activates intention or

“exposure to specific memory”. The voice is added in the

form of a simple “reminder phrase” spoken as the specific

treatment points are activated by tapping, which brings

energy into the meridian system, engaging the energy

pathways related to that specific problem. Beginners are

encouraged not to worry too much about the words cho-

sen for statements. Newcomers are cautioned that scripts

you find online may not be specific enough to address

your particular problem. While you are encouraged to

trust your intuition when developing reminder phrases,

you also must make them specific. You can find treat-

ment statement examples on the Gold Standard EFT web-

site www.emofree.com or you can work with a practition-

er to learn how to develop statements for your personal

needs.

ample, the stomach meridian (acupoint under the eye) is

often associated with blocks connected to memories in-

volving of worry and trust/mistrust, while the lung meridi-

an may be connected to feelings of grief. There is no

need to get caught up in with these theories because

when EFT is administered using the basic recipe, relief

happens even without knowing which emotions or merid-

ians are involved. You simply tap all of the points, even

though all of them may not all be needed for successful

treatment. There is no harm in doing so; it’s fast to ac-

complish and the body balances the energy naturally, re-

leasing what is no longer needed.

Research

The body of research on EFT has grown substantially in

recent years. Over 50 studies, including 23 randomized

controlled trials and 17 within-subjects studies with EFT

have been published in peer-reviewed journals. EFT now

meets the American Psychological Association’s (APA)

Division 12 Criteria for “evidence-based” practice, which

means psychologists, social workers, nurses and a variety

of licensed professionals can now obtain continuing edu-

cation credits, as well as professional certification for

courses on EFT. Additional research studies are ongoing

through the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psy-

chology (ACEP). The most recent summaries can be found

online at www.energypsych.org.

Joseph Mercola, DO, a physician and the founder of the

world’s most popular natural-health newsletter (see

www.mercola.com), shares, “We implemented EFT…to

help our patients comply to the eating plan and it was

absolutely phenomenal. I was very impressed with EFT's

effectiveness and rapidly adopted it for a variety of other

issues…EFT seems to work well over 85 percent of the

time in our clinic…and it is quite clear to me that EFT-type

therapies are absolutely critical to nearly all health-

optimizing strategies.” Other people providing testimoni-

als include a woman who utilizes EFT to calm herself be-

fore giving a public presentation and a man who used it to

get over his aversion to making business calls.

Learning EFT

You will find many methods and forms of EFT on the In-

ternet. Check credentials, experience and certifications

to be sure you have landed on a reputable source. There

are also many terms that apply to treatments similar to

EFT, such as tapping, acupressure, meridian therapy and

more. Online tutorials from the founder of EFT, Gary

Craig’s Gold Standard EFT program at www.emofree.com

provide an impressive body of cases, articles and videos,

newsletter, as well as a professional certification program

affiliated with The Association for Comprehensive Energy

Psychology. Certifications are also available through

AMET and EFTUniverse, although these protocols depart

from founder Gary Craig’s procedure.

In addition to online resources, certified practitioners can

help you to learn and use EFT. Live sessions with an expe-

rienced EFT practitioner offer the opportunity for privacy,

to see the technique in action, have questions answered

and learn troubleshooting tips. An experienced EFT practi-

tioner also knows how to ask specific questions to uncov-

er the core emotional issues, as well as experience and

training to help you find the greatest success in the short-

est time. Certified EFT practitioners practice under ethical

guidelines and will provide outside referral for complicat-

ed or difficult cases.

You can experience many wonderful transformations by

using EFT in your own life. In fact, you do not even need

to have problems to benefit from tapping. Try a morning

routine tapping the EFT treatment points as you speak

positive affirmations of acceptance and self-love to get

every day off to a positive start.

The Basic EFT Procedure (Short Form)

EFT in short form uses only head and torso points. The full

EFT protocol also includes taps on finger points, as well as

eye movements, humming and counting.

Choose a specific event, issue or “problem” for work.

Rate the intensity, or subjective units of distress “SUDs”

on a scale of 0-10

The Setup and reminder phrase

Feel for a “sore spot” or neurolymphatic point on the up-

per breast, usually near the shoulder and along the side

the underarm. Soreness indicates lymphatic congestion,

but the point need not be sore to use it for treatment. As

treatment begins, the sore spot is massaged in a circular

motion while speaking the set-up statements. An optional

set-up method is to tap with two fingers on the “pinkie

side” of the opposite hand, the fleshy “karate chop area.”

Both methods work; select your favorite.

Say “Even though I have this ____________, I completely

love and accept myself” Say this affirmation out loud 3

times while rubbing the sore spot or tapping on the Kara-

te Chop point.

The EFT Tapping Sequence -- Tap about 7-10 times on

each of the following points while repeating a reminder

phrase at each point

Inside Edge of Eyebrow

Outside corners of eye

Under eye on ridge of bone

Center Above upper lip

Center Below lower lip

Collarbone

Under Arm

Stop and Evaluate on a 0-10 Scale (if >0, repeat sequence)

Repeat the sequence, if needed, while repeating the re-

minder phrase or adjust phrase to reflect the fact that you

are addressing the remaining problem.

As you tap, you may feel a pleasant tingling sensation ac-

companied by a state of calm alert. Often, tears will stop

flowing and the throat will loosen. An energy release in

the form of a deep sigh, a yawn or muscle release also

may occur as you tap. Physical discomfort often decreases

and stress melts away. Each person’s experience is unique

and depends upon the intentional focus of the EFT ses-

sion.

EFT is a gift that you easily can learn and share. A person

need not even believe EFT will work in order to get amaz-

ing results. Why not give EFT a try? It is a natural way to

live life in the flow of greater comfort, peace and connec-

tion.

The art of dance is seen as many things.

At first blush it can identify your personal likes and dis-likes. It can tell us when you were a teenager. Your ethnic heritage, perhaps your religious training. But did you ever look deeper?

Lets talk story. That’s what the Hawaiian’s call it when they share information, because they are an oral and kin-esthetic people. They chant and dance. Every nuance tells a story, the breath of the wind across your face. The Sun as it falls upon the mountains. The waves in the ocean as opposed to the waves in the river. They talk story about love and living and dying and ancestors and history. They Hula.

Wikipedia tells us that a pow-wow is a gathering of North America's Native people. The word derives from the Nar-ragansett word powwaw, meaning "spiritual leader". A modern pow-wow is a specific type of event where both Native American/First Nations and non-Native American/First Nations people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honor Native American/First Nations culture. But what part does the dance play. Nowadays there are competi-tions. The dance holds so much more if you would only look deeper. Inside the dance of all indigenous peoples, lie the stories of gods and history and prayers. A remem-bering of past and a calling into being of futures.

Dance can be a play as seen in Asian cultures and is an integral part of operas. It speaks of love and war and his-tory. Kabuki speaks of comedy and tragedy. The stuff of living.

Dance tells us it is time to plant and to harvest and to honor our ancestors.

In many middle eastern cultures women dance to ‘speak’ about life and death and birth. It is the dance of the Belly, and it is sacred.

Sufi’s Spin as they connect with the divine. Bringing the breath of the divine into themselves.

Back in the day (60’s) I danced to say I am here. This is who I am. See me.

Children dance for pure joy.

We dance when some one marries, births and dies. The south has a rich history of funeral processions that be-come joyous celebrations of special people, special lives.

Why do you dance?

And if you do not… Why do you not dance?

It is a rediscovering of self. It is your birthright.

I have a persistent stuffy nose and think it might be

caused by the heat from my furnace. Nothing I have

tried has worked: neti pot, essential oils, etc. Any

suggestions?

You have an interesting configuration of dry mucous

membrane that isn’t limited to your nose. You notice the

dryness in your nose more because it has strong sensory

input to your day to day experience. The best correction

for this is to balance your hormones. You don’t give a

time frame for this disturbance, but I read it as concurring

with a decrease in progesterone and increase in testos-

terone. This is a common pattern as menopause advances

past early stages. Many women and sometimes men

(who have excessive testosterone for various reasons) will

find this membrane dryness will improve by correcting

the underlying imbalance. In your situation, there are

many over the counter progesterone supplements, but I

would suggest you see your primary care doctor for lab

work to confirm the levels and check out some of the re-

ally useful topical solutions that are available. If you are

more interested in functional medicine opportunities

(alternative, complementary care) you could also work

with a skilled polarity therapist to balance your fire and

water elements. This will help the balance the hormonal

systems to have less of a metabolic “drag” from the una-

voidable stressors of living on the planet earth!

I am obsessed with electronics and can’t seem to

stop looking at my phone, surfing Facebook, email

or especially; playing games. It has annoyed so

many of my family that I kind of hide out from them

now and play on my phone. I can’t help it. What

can I do?

Wow. You are so brave. You are identifying a relatively

new area of behavior that is so neurologically driven, it

requires a long course in the workings of the spinal cord

to the brain.

The part of the nervous system we are looking at involves

coping with stress, feeling loved and being in safe connec-

tion with our loved ones or the “tribe” we are born into.

These are three of the most powerful drives in the human

system. They are directly connected to survival of the

species and your personal survival, which is why you are

feeling so compelled to “stay connected”.

When there is disruption in your life, with relationships

particularly, it is seen by the body to be safer to be elec-

tronically connected than struggle to resolve seemingly

unresolvable emotional issues. There are very few specific

interventions developed for this yet, as not many people

are willing to admit or notice how it is growing to be a

part of their coping with daily stress and also how it re-

places their need for the face to face connection to sort

our relationships. Having said all that, the following is not

true for all people with this symptom, but it is accurate

for you at this time.

This is a painful circumstance for you and not easy to ig-

nore since you have people around you demanding your

attention. This is good as you could easily retreat into a

computer world where you have control and feel power-

ful. Your feelings of rejection are getting more obvious to

you as people overwhelm you with expectations to be-

The source of this is your in utero experience (before

birth). These times were very filled with stress hormones

and your body, particularly your brain, is working to learn

new ways of managing stress hormones. The electronics

are an easily available and socially accepted method and

you are using it to reform the pathways from “overly”

stressed to a calmer pattern.

The pitfall with this correction is that is it overly stimu-

lating and is creating a level of neuron firing that is agi-

tating. See a holistic health provider ( there are many

listed in this magazine ) to help discharge the overload of

stress on the in utero neurological system and get a base-

line of what issues there are in your life that are creating

such a sense of loneliness and rejection. Get outside

Music creates feelings. The question is, “Can music

create love?”

These two energies are more connected than we imagine.

Both energies have waves, which combine in close prox-

imity. Recall how the sound track of a movie makes you

feel. Back to our opening theme, love (and all feelings)

can be enhanced with music.

The question that follows is…”What is the feeling of

Love?” The answer is not simple. Love, a many splendored

word, has many attributes. For example, love may be kind

and yet courageous. Other loving attributes are for-

giveness and acceptance. The word love is a cap stone for

many virtues. Yet, each attribute of love is a feeling.

Using music to enhance a feeling, like love, may seem like

a novel idea, but it was not in antiquity. Ancient man cre-

ated positive feelings through sound or music, and then

listened to them for an incredible number of times. With

each listen they ingested a tiny amount of this desired

energy via the music. For example, if they wished to make

a boy ferocious, he was constantly exposed to furious mu-

sic. Likewise, a gentle person was cultivated with constant

gentle music. Ancient sages prescribed listening to some-

thing special - thousands of times until it was a dominant

energy within one’s personality.

We gain a habit or personality trait by repeating feelings

over and over again until they surface from our subcon-

scious mind as an automated response. This is most easily

accomplished with the aid of music. We can automate

repeats of desired feelings by playing a special CD over

and over again.

Ancient Man designed music to replicate beautiful attrib-

utes of love. This is done today as well. It is even packaged

with cathartic release of negative emotions and the build-

ing of positive emotions, in music such as The Healing

Flower Symphonies. Music builds attributes that compose

love, we just have to listen to “loving” music.

If you wish to acknowledge your loved one’s beauty – be

it their personality or appearance, and then play beautiful

music to enhance your message. The author created the

You can say “hello,” communicating to someone that you

love him or are angry at him. Your feelings carry on your

words. Your intentions also are feelings and they mesh

with music. This idea has practical applications. Identify a

piece of music for your loved one and make it “your

song.” When this song is played, it links you. Your intent

becomes entwined with the feelings in the music, as both

the sounds and emotions combine into one energy.

Music is a source of energy that we can use to enhance

our body, mind soul and, yes, to intensify our sharing of

love on special days and always.

2015!!!…Fifteen years have passed so quickly since the

ominous turn of the century. I remember people storing

food and water “just in case”. Computers backed up 7

different ways with the expectation some major malfunc-

tion would occur.

I was concerned myself until I watched on television as

the New Year of 2000 arrived in Australia and New Zea-

land. Then, all of a sudden, I knew for sure that nothing

was going to happen. Just a knowing so deep in my heart

that I simply let go of any concern. My whole body re-

laxed.

As I think about that occurrence, I

realize my body is always giving me

information. I just need to pay atten-

tion. I feel because I think. Is my

thinking clear? Is my belief true for

me now or is it old and useless?

When I become uptight about something, I must take the

time to ask myself “what about this situation tightens my

muscles”. If I take the time to unwind the feeling, actually

pay attention and experience it, I will be guided to know

what makes me feel better. The next time a similar situa-

tion occurs, I won’t feel the tightness so intensely and

then not at all. I can do breath-work, or EFT, or journaling

to help the identification. There are so many tools for us

to use.

If we don’t take the time to work on our feelings, the neg-

ative ones become more intense with every occurrence

and eventually cause some type of dis-ease in the body.

One of my new favorite books, by Annita Keane is “How

do I know”. Annita talks a lot about discovering answers

by paying attention to the body and learning to make de-

cisions from those discoveries.

It is so interesting how I start out with the intention to

write about one thing, like time passage, and the writing

takes on a life of its own.

I am always guided by the angels to write what is the best

for the readers and I guess for today, the best is to help

people think about their bodies, their feelings and helping

our lives be better and easier in 2015.

Practices like Yoga and t’ai chi help us to get into the body

and become more aware of the conversation the body is

capable of sharing.

For 2015, I have decided to do two things. The first is to

make more time to connect with Spirit. The second is to

talk with Spirit regularly about what is going

on inside of me. This year, my focus is about

me and how to help me move through life in

a much easier fashion. I hope you will focus

on you, too.

Just Write

-- It’s Therapy!It’s Therapy! By Claudia Taller

The experience of putting words on paper adds layers of

meaning and permanence to our words as we work

through what’s going on inside us. Even when writing

fiction, we are working away at a problem. And though

those long talks over the dinner table, on a hike in the

woods, and in a car on long trips are soulful, most of the

things that were said get lost when the conversation

ends, and we are left with a feeling of mirth or sadness or

regret, the overall feeling we had from the talk, but noth-

ing tangible, nothing lasting. And we may not have

worked out what it is that’s really worrying us.

I insist that writing down what we’re grieving, loving,

hating, regretting, and connecting with, what we’re sad

about and glad about, what the past meant to us and

what the future holds in hopefulness, is really important.

It’s important for all of us, not just writers, poets, and

memoirists. Writing it down, thinking it through on pa-

per, changes us, adds layers of meaning, forces us to look

at what’s going on with the awareness of an outsider,

even as we’re free to write whatever it is that comes to us

as our fingers glide across the keyboard.

Let me back up a bit to tell my own story. As the daugh-

ter of a Methodist minister, I was uprooted every few

years. Books, and the thoughts and words inside them,

sustained me through transition times without friends. I

sat in the crabapple tree of the parsonage in Akron read-

ing Little Women the first summer we were there. The

following year, combating the inability to fit into the black

ghetto, I wrote my first novel. When we moved to Lorain

in my 8th grade year, I started writing poetry, putting my

feelings out there, playing with them, nudging them, and

trying to find Truth. In college, I chose to major in English

and to write my autobiography for my senior project;

when I graduated, I also received a Writing Certificate. I

was always writing, because my soul needed to write.

And yes, I kept a diary--I owned a private place kept under

lock and key, the place that only God and me could touch

and know.

I think the God-connection is why we need to write.

What I mean by that is there’s a yearning inside us to tell

our stories, to work out the

reason we’re here and

what our mission is, and

when we start seeking,

we’re looking within,

through our God-

connection. When I write,

it’s not just me writing, it’s

me writing from God with-

in me—it’s much bigger

than me. I have to tell you,

the darkest times in my life

were the years when I didn’t write and I knew something

was missing. My world became brighter the day a friend

gave me The Artist’s Way, and all of a sudden it was okay

to write, even though I was busy with our family and

home and my career.

No, not everyone’s a writer, but each and every one of us

can tap into the Spirit within us, the God-connection that

causes our own unique reaction to life. To get started,

just write. The blank screen or piece of paper has no

power over you—it’s non-threatening. Just write. Begin

by writing non-stop, not picking the pen up from the

page, for a page. You may find that you have more to say

than that, so keep going. Don’t think about why you’re

doing it or what you’re trying to accomplish. Whatever

you do, don’t edit or be concerned about how good the

writing is.

Just write. Things will come to the surface. You will be as

surprised as you are by your dreams.

Writing any old thing down, not editing or judging, frees

us. We find our voice and get to know ourselves better.

We cannot help but feel better about who we are—we

become more human because we discover our frailties

and longings. We begin to know what we need, who in

our lives are helpful or not, what problems can be re-

solved now and which ones will haunt us for a while. But

it’s okay, because a narrated life is different than the life

you knew before. You are creating your life and choosing

your path and finding your way, by writing.

God is there in the words you write down. You feel Him,

you know what He wants of you, as you write down those

words that can’t be anything but the Truth because no

one will see them but you.

your writing by asking ques-

tions: How do I feel today?

What went wrong yester-

day? How do I make pen-

ance to this person I

wronged yesterday? Is

there a way I can love my

spouse more? Am I spend-

ing my time on something

meaningful?

Writing is therapeutic. We find answers, we work things

out. Writing is a tool to become a better person. It calms

us and creates balance. When we’re writing, we’re pre-

sent, we’re God-connected.

Write. Be surprised. Grow. Become. Change. Find God.

Find yourself. Just write.

When sugar is added to our food we eat more…. and

more…. and MORE. When we consume more, profits go

up. But at what cost? Our health, sanity and even the

rate at which we age are all suffering.

So, let’s look at how this sweet substance affects your

body, in particular how sugar makes you age. I’m also go-

ing to share with you some strategies for undoing the

damage sugar does to help you look and feel even more

beautiful than you already are.

Sugar is more than just the white stuff!

For many people sugar is just the

white substance added to coffee or

sprinkled over breakfast cereal, but it

is so much more!

Sugar is a very general term which we use to describe car-

bohydrates which taste sweet.

The white stuff is sucrose, made naturally by many plants.

Some plants make more, like sugar-cane or sugar-beet

which both taste very sweet. Food manufacturers have

developed complex industrial processes which extract

natural sugars from plants, such as corn (which doesn’t

even taste sweet!) and make a super-concentrated sub-

stance.

This super-sugar, like high fructose corn syrup, is very

cheap to produce and VERY addictive. Sadly all the pro-

cessing removes any trace of nature from the sugar and

these Frankenstein-super-sugars are completely confus-

ing our bodies, specifically stressing out our immune sys-

tem.

Does sugar affect my mind?

The brain reacts to sugar in the same way it would to ille-

gal narcotics. It really is a drug, eight times more addic-

tive than cocaine; it stimulates ALL of the brains ‘pleasure

pathways’. Worse than that sugar messes with your mind

man! Sugar changes how you feel emotionally, makes

your moods go up and down and reduces your brains abil-

ity to produce happy chemicals

sumer panels are used to test the product. One of the

many tests is to see how much sugar they can add before

people complain it is too sweet. They experiment with

different amounts of sugar to see how much they can ‘get

away with’ to make the food as addictive as possible! No

wonder we all have such sweet tooth’s.

Dextrose (another type of sugar) is often sprayed onto

French Fries before cooking to make us want them even

more. Arghhh, that makes me mad!

Many people have no idea they are addicted to sugar. If

you suffer from mood swings; strong urges to eat sweet

foods, bread or baked foods; or you find it difficult to stop

eating when full…. then you probably have a sugar habit!

How does sugar affect my body?

A cutting edge study published in the Journal of Clinical

Investigation found that sugar not only FEEDS cancer

cells, it actually causes changes in normal cells to MAKE

them cancerous! Yikes! All of a sudden that sweet treat

doesn’t seem so sweet anymore does it? Fortunately the

study also demonstrated that cutting out sugar from the

diet REVERSED these cellular changes and returned the

body to a state of good health. Phew!

Addiction has a toll on the whole body. Heroin and crack

are known for their damaging effects on hair, teeth and

skin. Sugar is no different. Consuming sugar, especially

refined super-sugars make your body, and specifically

skin, age quicker.

After eating, sugar quickly gets into the blood and starts

causing havoc all over the place!

It confuses the immune system and ‘glycates’ (sugar-

coats) LOADS of essential proteins, including hemoglobin

(vital for moving life giving oxygen round your body!).

When sugar attaches itself to tissues and proteins inside

the body it creates Advanced Glycation End products or

AGEs for short.

When you cook meat, it goes brown,

due to a chemical reaction which pro-

duces the identical AGEs, but using

heat. When you sugar-coat proteins in your body, exactly

the same reaction occurs and AGEs are produced.

Eating sugar doesn’t just add a sticky coating inside your

body, it kind of ‘cooks’ it from the inside!

Sugar gets under your skin!

Your skin is easily damaged by those troublesome AGEs –

it is a fitting name, AGEs make you age! The proteins

which keep your skin looking and feeling young, collagen

and elastin, are very vulnerable to AGEs. When these

proteins are damaged they become brittle, leading to

wrinkles and saggy skin. The British journal of Dermatolo-

gy concluded that AGE damage to the skin starts from just

35 years old. But it’s never too late to cut out the sugar

and stop the damage to your skin!

High sugar diets even change the type of collagen your

skin is made from. There are three types of collagen in

your skin, types 1 to 3. Type 1

is the weakest and type 3 is the

strongest. Sugar causes the

lovely strong type 3 collagen to

be transformed into the weak-

er type 1, making the skin look and feel less supple.

Yet another way sugar messes with your skin is by turning

off your body’s antioxidant enzymes. This makes your skin

more vulnerable to sun damage. This makes it, yes you

have guessed it, look older quicker!

Sugar is by far the most prolific source of AGEs in the

body and specifically fructose - remember that HIGH fruc-

tose corn syrup I mentioned? Fructose is a sugar found

naturally in fruit but in LOW healthy doses. When refined

and processed into high fructose syrup it becomes super

concentrated and causes many more AGEs to be formed.

Can I undo the damage sugar is doing?

YES! (Thanks goodness!!!) Sugar messes with hormones

vital to metabolism and they have a HUGE impact on lon-

gevity! Getting the levels of these hormones under con-

trol, by cutting out sugar; will add MANY more healthy

years to your life.

Step #1: Stop eating more sugar!

Cutting out, or dramatically reducing, sugar in

your diet is one of the most profound things you

can do to improve your health. It might sound

simple, but it isn’t. Sugar is an addictive toxin. When we

eat it we crave it.

A high sugar diet, combined with a lack of fresh fruit and

vegetables, has been linked to 4 out of 5 of the leading

causes of death in Westernized society. That is a pretty

scary statistic isn’t it? We are literally killing ourselves,

and our children, with the food choices we make every

day.

For those of you who know me this won’t be the first time

you have heard me talk about sugar. I am a passionate

anti-sugar advocate. Sugar is linked to so many health

problems that I simply cannot sit back and watch when I

know the solution is simple. Stop eating sugar!

Step #2: Eat more fruit and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables naturally contain antioxi-

dants which repair the damage done by the

AGEs. They also contain phytonutrients

(biologically active compounds) which have amazing anti-

cancer properties and massively promote physical and

mental wellbeing. Eating a variety of colors helps ensure

you get a selection of nature’s medicines.

Some foods you might like to include in your diet, for their

naturally high amount of anti-oxidants, include: blueber-

ries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries,

cherries, beans, and artichokes. Grapes, raspberries and

mulberries also contain naturally occurring resveratrol.

This compound has been shown to trigger mechanisms

which REVERSE some of the body’s natural aging process-

es.

Step # 3: Love what you see

Sadly society puts a higher value on the virility of

youth than the wisdom of age. The media

hurtfully names and shames any celebrity who

dares to get old. With age comes experience and wisdom,

let’s celebrate that too!

If you don’t feel beautiful when you look in the mirror it is

because you are under the influence of a spell. The spell

of unrealistic standards of beauty and age. Airbrushed

images encourage us to feel bad in order to sell more

products.

When you look in the mirror what you see is your own

rejection of how you look. That rejection stops you being

able to see the adorable freckles, the beautiful smile and

deep soulful eyes. We stop seeing ourselves and instead

see rejection.

Many people struggle with body image, but the key is not

to change your body, but to change how you see yourself.

The more you love your body the more it loves you back

and you WILL see the beauty we both know is hiding be-

hind the rejection.

Mirror, mirror on the wall… YOU are the

fairest of them all! Next time you look in

the mirror take a moment to REALLY

look at yourself and admire what you

see. The lines of wisdom and the beauty

that is present in ALL of us. Discover

what you really look like: not what you

don’t look like.

You are beautiful. Tell yourself, often, that you are beauti-

ful. Look in the mirror and say it to yourself. At first it

might be tricky, it might feel like a lie, that’s ok, you are

undoing a spell. Persevere and you will be amazed at the

results. We are all beautiful.

One of the participants in an Earthing study some years ago was a woman named Cindy with multiple sclerosis. She, like others in the study, was grounded for about for-ty minutes. Afterward, she visited the restroom, and then rushed back, a surprised look on her face, to the office where participants were being grounded.

“I just took one look at myself in the mirror and couldn’t believe what I saw,” she said. “It was as if I had slept for three days or been on a healing retreat. I looked so much better and younger. I’d been very tired, sad, and stressed out. I was amazed.”

Cindy’s revelation was not unique. Many other women have made similar comments, even after just a half hour or hour of grounding, or after sleeping grounded. They have noticed a difference. They quickly feel better and look better. They talk in terms of more radiant skin, brighter eyes, and more vitality.

Study: Grounding the Body Improves Facial Blood Flow

Now, a 2014 study published in the online Journal of Cos-metics, Dermatological Sciences and Applications, has demonstrated, for the first time, an improvement in facial blood flow, one of the likely ways that Earthing can po-tentially − and quickly − improve how you look.

How quickly?

Better facial blood flow was documented within one hour, according to the study. Such improvement implies en-hanced nourishment of facial tissues and functions, and, based on Earthing observations over the years, one can expect that continued grounding would generate continu-ing benefits to skin, complexion, and vitality – in essence, an “Earthing facelift.”

In the study, electro physiologist Gaétan Chevalier, Ph.D.,

of the Developmental and Cell Biology Department at the University of California at Irvine, and the director of the Earthing Institute, used a double-blind model with forty subjects to determine if Earthing can improve facial circu-lation within one hour. He used both sophisticated Laser Speckle Contrast imaging and thermal imaging to docu-ment changes in circulation.

Both techniques showed a clear improvement in facial blood flow regulation from grounding. No such result was found among the non-grounded participants. The laser camera study was published first. The thermal imaging study will be published at a later date.

Participants were individually tested over the period of an hour while sitting in a comfortable recliner chair. The chair was fitted with a grounding mat and pillow. Ground-ing patches were also placed on both palms and soles of the feet. The Earthing wires used to connect the partici-pants were randomly assigned to either allow or disallow conduction of the Earth’s energy. So individuals were ei-ther actually grounded (27) or sham grounded (13).

Dynamics of Better Facial Blood Flow

The results from the laser camera showed a fascinating and clear rhythmicity in the facial blood flow of grounded subjects. Such rhythmicity relates to a more efficient reg-ulatory effect on blood flow by the autonomic nervous system (ANS), and another example of how Earthing con-

tributes to homeostasis and more natural functioning in the body.

As Dr. Chevalier notes in his paper, the ANS regulation of facial blood flow dynamics “brings to mind an analogy of an efficient thermostat that activates or deactivates the heating or cooling system according to temperature fluc-tuations within the controlled environment. For the body, grounding may contribute to the restoration of regulation by the ANS of the distribution of blood, and therefore needed oxygen and nutrients, to the various organs and systems according to their needs.”

Dr. Chevalier suggests other mechanisms are likely in play as well:

1) Improved zeta potential and blood fluidity. Earthing increases the negative electric charge on the surface of red blood cells, promoting reduced clumping, a more de-sirable viscosity (blood thinning effect) and better flow. 2) Improved overall physiology.

3) A calming effect on the body and normalization of the stress hormone cortisol. Stress has been linked to many skin conditions. In the study, Dr. Chevalier also asked the participants to fill out a standard mood questionnaire be-fore and after each session during which they were either grounded or sham grounded. When he analyzed the an-swers he found that the grounded group had a more pleasant experience, felt more positive, and was more relaxed. The results correlate with previous Earthing stud-ies demonstrating reduced stress and greater calmness.

4) Reduced inflammation. Observations over the years clearly indicate that wounds and injuries heal faster when

the body is grounded, and that the common signs of in-flammation are reduced or eliminated.

The new study helps explain also the results of an infor-mal survey conducted at a 2012 women’s wellness con-ference. The 100 women in attendance had filled out a questionnaire before and after one hour of grounding while seated during a lecture in the conference hall. When their answers were totaled up, about 75 percent or more reported that after grounding they had a better mood, more energy, and an improved complexion radi-ating more vitality and color. Here are the results of that survey.

There’s an old saying that beauty comes from within. No doubt about that. Now it may be equally correct to say that beauty comes from the ground as well.
