DESCRIPTION
The Unity flags project is a collaboration between the Current art group and Memoir de L'avenir gallery in Paris to bring together children from diverse cultures for a joined workshop in which UNITY flags are made. The last project ended on June 2013 bringing together children from: Jericho, Nazareth, Pardes Hana and Baka el Garbiya

Youths project - Unity Flags UNITY FLAGS CONNECTS 100 CHILDREN, 8 TEACHERS & 8 ARTISTS FROM JERICHO, BAQA AL-GHARBIYA, NAZARETH AND PARDES HANA, WORKING ON ISSUES RELATED TO INDIVIDUAL & CULTURAL IDENTITIES, AIMING FOR LIVING TOGETHER WITH RESPECT AMONG DIFFERENCES, LEARNING TO GET TO KNOW THE "OTHER", WHILE UNDERLINES SIMILITUDE AMONG PEOPLE. THUS, BEYOND RELIGIONS AND POLITICS, USING THE ARTS & CULTURES AS OUR TOOLS, WE OFFERED PARTICIPANTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE BOTH THEIR OWN PERSONAL & CULTURAL IDENTITIES … THE PROJECT TOOK PLACE IN 2013 AND CONSISTED OF SEVERAL MEETINGS IN EACH OF THESE PLACES TO GET TO KNOW THE HOME OF THE OTHERS…. MANY OTHER SCHOOLS & US ARE WISHING TO CONTINUE THIS PROJECT, IN 2014… AND BEYOND…

Memory of the Future (MOF) incorporates multi-disciplinary competences of artists and educators (fine arts, visual and performing arts, music, words…) working towards a greater knowledge of cultures, promoting intercultural understanding and exchange, via the tools of the arts, patrimonies and education. An international workshop network in cultural places, schools and social centers, in France, Germany, Turkey, Israel Palestine and Senegal… connecting citizens, who both learn to appreciate and attest to the richness of cultural diversities.
MOF’s programs aim to formulate and contribute, in the spirit of respect and reconciliation, to new outlooks for all g e n e r a t i o n s , confronted with questions of individual & collective identities, acceptance, and transmission of distinctive cultural & historical memories... Seeking to transcend habitual references and ways of thinking, the various programs propose an interactive "dialogue" between Cultures, histories and an artistic activity on personal and collective level as sensitive and intuitive means of expression & comprehension to develop critical knowledge & thinking, respectful communication, and better self-esteem .
The main emphasis of our approach is underlying the assumption that our intuitive and creative side are an essential part of our logical construction & capacities to understand the world, produce ideas and messages. As they are jointly stimulated the senses of observation and creation become powerful means of communication and comprehension.
The “language” of art and symbols are ideal, amusing and most instructive tools in order to recognize mutual values, as well as to reinforce one's own individuality, and appreciation of our differences. Symbolic representations and metaphors are at the same time the trace & reflect of humanity; living images, and sources of artistic creations. Mysterious as they can be, symbols are powerful tools of communication, both universal and individual, and talk to our intelligence and to our senses. Via a practical approach, participants learn to read and understand a repertoire of cultural references & symbols which they incorporate in their acceptance of cultural diversities & comprehension, as in their own creations.
In our approach participants instinctively learn to decipher the message conveyed by symbols chosen along paths within museums (from primitive to t o d a y ’ s contemporary art), but also borrowed from architecture, literature, music, body languages, cooking and other domains… and thus realize they can “read” and understand various societies and cultures. This collective “grammar” of symbols allows them to discover mutual universal values, and cross-cultural similarities & diversities at once, a fantastic tool to fight with ignorance, as the cause of stereotypes, prejudice and of all forms of racisms. With art we can bridge among differences.
MOF’s workshops aims to fight violence, conflict with all forms of artistic expressions; the arts is a privileged medium that allow to overcome linguistic, religious & political borders, and offer an original grid of lecture of society, at time universal , while facilitates questions & exchange on plural identities, diversities.
MFO offer a platform of expression to Artists, engaged in social & political approach to take part in workshop training, become actively engaged in workshop with the civic society as take part in A yearly final exhibition, bringing together participants’ work as well as the leading artists: A way to pursue the dialogue and exchange between participants and the large public, in Israel, Palestine, France, Germany, Senegal, Etc.
MOF keeps open an intercultural space in Paris, where artists monthly exchange & perform via all forms of arts on all questions related to Humanity, society & its environment.
