Current Reality Assessment PhaseOverall Population 2018 to 2023: The overall population of the Diocese is projected to increase 4.0% from

1,372,236 to 1,427,714

The total non-Hispanic White population is projected to increase 1.2% from 1,164,745 to 1,178,145

The total population of persons of color (excluding Hispanics) is projected to increase 20.7% from 135,440 to 163,427

The total population of Hispanics is projected to increase 19.6% from 72,051 to 86,142

However, between 2009 - 2017 the number of registered Catholic households across the Diocese has grown only 1.0% from 34,763 to 35,101 HHs

Births in the Lafayette Deanery has grown 6.1% since 2005

Births in the Carmel and Fowler Deaneries have grown with increases of 1.8% and 13.0% respectively in 2012 -2017 timeframe

This fluctuation in births had a significant impact on Catholic student enrollments and will most likely continue to do so in the future.

By the 2022/2023 School Year the PK-12 enrollment is projected to grow .4% from 4,971 to 4,989

In 2018, approximately 92.0% of registered Catholic households affiliated with a parish in the Diocese resided within the diocesan boundary

Registered Catholic households within the Diocese represent approximately 6.3% of all households of any type residing in the Diocese

An accepted “rule of thumb” is that an additional 40 % of disengaged Catholic households reside in any parish. So if a parish has 500 registered HHs, there would be an estimated additional 200 HHs that are non-practicing Catholic HHs.

Sacraments 2009 - 2017 The total number of sacraments administered

across the diocese declined by 9.2% from 7,441 to 6,753

Growth was seen in confirmations (15.9%) and funerals (4%)

Declines were seen in baptisms (24.9%), first communions (13.4%), and weddings (18.6%)

In 2017, the average number of weekend Mass attendees was 41,468 people which represent approximately 45.7% of all registered parishioners

The total parish seating capacity across the Diocese is 29,154 and the total number of weekend Masses is 182

The overall capacity (capacity & Masses) across the Diocese is 104,439, and the Percent Facility Utilization was 39.7%
