You trust United Way of Story County (UWSC) to continuously monitor the changing landscape of human service needs in our communities and respond for the betterment of Story County. When we are United together, we can find solutions that change lives.

UNITED TOGETHER. More than 6,000 donors in Story County took action to help their neighbors by investing in UWSC. This includes 600+ special gifts in our affinity groups and leadership circles. UWSC is in the position to bring community members together with partner agencies, subject matter experts, school districts, and other community groups to create lasting community change.

FINDING SOLUTIONS. UWSC builds partnerships to find new solutions to old problems. Our donors rely on United Way to be the expert on matters that are important to our community. In the last year, UWSC has invested in a software system that will elevate our ability to provide outcome reporting to the community. This data from UWSC funded programs will help identify strengths and showcase best practices.

CHANGING LIVES. UWSC is leading the fight for the education, income, and health of every person in our community.

Our cutting-edge community impact work touches individuals and families. Education: UWSC funds prevention strategies, outreach and advocacy services, and building blocks for academic success. Over $282,000 is allocated for prevention and development programs, including understanding other cultures.

Income: UWSC makes sure basic and emergency needs are met and builds self-sufficiency. UWSC funds a sliding fee scale at four childcare centers in Story County. This helps low to moderate income families afford high-quality childcare, enabling them to maintain employment or continue their education.

Health: UWSC supports affordable and accessible essential services that are key to establishing healthy lifestyles. UWSC contributions enhance the quality of life for more than 300 people with intellectual disabilities by funding physical activity opportunities.

Investing in these areas builds a stronger community for everyone. United Way invites you to join the fight. Because your passion, expertise, and resources will help the fight become a win. A win that is not just a short-term contribution, but a long-term solution.

As the President and CEO of the Ames Chamber of Commerce and the Ames Economic Development Commission, he is passionate about making Story County a great place to live and work.

United Way Has Continued Tocqueville Campaign Success Every gift to UWSC is meaningful and put to work to help others. Those gifts within the Tocqueville Society have a profound impact on how UWSC can act on its mission. Since 2007, UWSC has had at least one Tocqueville donor each year. However, over the last four campaigns, UWSC’s Tocqueville Campaign has been transformed.

As we head into the 2017 campaign, David Spalding, Dean of the College of Business, will continue in the role of Tocqueville Campaign Chair. David and other volunteers will reach out to loyal supporters to invite them to make a plan for Tocqueville giving. His passion for the mission of UWSC is inspiring.
