BACKGROUND
The Third SIDS International Conference comes at a time of great urgency for small island developing States

The Road to Samoa
The road to Samoa has been long and arduous Rio+20 Summit (2012) Regional preparatory meetings (Caricom, AIMS, Pacific SIDS) Inter-regional preparatory meeting (Barbados)
The path chosen is one demanded by the SIDS Nothing for us without us!
An early recognition that the journey to our destination requires genuine & durable partnership

Second Preparatory Committee meeting is the final opportunity to agree on the Outcome Document
Much work remains to be done, close cooperation is necessary, a comprehensive approach is vital – all stakeholders are required to work together
Conclusion
The Samoa Conference is a watershed moment for Small Island Developing States as it is our moment, particularly for the Pacific SIDS and the region as a whole
‘Green growth in a Blue world’ is not a fanciful goal but attainable with strong engagement and commitment of all stakeholders
The PIDF already achieves what are currently aspirational goals of the S.A.M.O.A Pathway Building of genuine and durable partnerships Inclusive institutional framework of action
