The Carpenters were an American musical duo. The members were Richard Carpenter and his sister Karen. Starting in 1969, the duo had many popular songs including "We've Only Just begun", "Close to You", "Sing", "Rainy Days and Mondays" and others. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 11 albums, 31 singles, five television specials, and a short-lived television series. Their career ended in 1983 by Karen's death from heart failure brought on by complications of anorexia. Extensive news coverage surrounding the circumstances of her death increased public awareness of eating disorders. To date, the Carpenters' album and single sales total more than 100 million units.

Justin Bieber, born on March 1, 1994, is a Canadian pop musician and singer-songwriter. Bieber showed a strong interest in music from an early age. He taught himself to play many instruments, like piano, guitar, drums, trumpet. Bieber’s first debut album My World achieved great success. In 2011, Bieber released his second album Under the Mistletoe and he released his third album Believe in 2012. Both albums debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

The Beach Boys are an American rock band from Hawthorne, California. They formed in 1961, and the original members were Brian Wilson (keyboards, bass guitar), his brothers Dennis Wilson (drums) and Carl Wilson (lead guitar), their cousin Mike Love (lead vocals), and close friend Al Jardine (rhythm guitar). David Marks replaced Jardine when he went away to school; after Jardine's return, Marks left the band. Bruce Johnston (keyboards) later became a regular band member, first replacing Brian Wilson on tour, then joining in on recording sessions. Many of the band's songs were about life in southern California, the beach, girls, cars, and surfing (though Dennis Wilson and Bruce Johnston were actually the only members in the group who surfed). The Beach Boys have sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time and are listed at number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2004 list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was one of the most famous and successful musicians of his time. He was referred to as "The King of Pop" and considered to be one of the biggest and most influential entertainers in the history of pop music. Michael Jackson started performing with The Jackson 5 in 1964. In 1971 he started a solo career while also being a member of The Jackson 5. He made the highest-selling album of all time, Thriller, in 1982. The video for "Thriller" showed him dancing like a zombie. Thriller, which includes famous songs like "Beat It" and "Billie Jean," has sold 110 million copies worldwide. Jackson wrote other well-known songs such as "Bad", "Black or White", "Heal the World" and "Earth Song". He is known for popularizing dance moves such as the robot and the moonwalk. He won a lot of awards and broke many records. He is often cited as the biggest star since Elvis Presley. Guinness World Records says he was the most successful entertainer of all time. Jackson traveled the world attending events honoring his humanitarianism, and, in 2000, the Guinness World Records recognized him for supporting 39 charities, more than any other entertainer.

Jackson's personal life was often written about by the tabloids, and still is today over six years since his death. He was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993. Even though that wasn't true, Jackson paid the accuser $25 million. After this there was no trial. In 2003 Jackson was charged with child sexual abuse by Garvin Arvizo. In 2005

Jackson was found not guilty of all charges. Jackson died of an overdose of propofol on June 25, 2009 after having a cardiac arrest. Jackson's doctor was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. On July 7 there was a memorial service for Jackson. It was on television and 2.5-3 billion people watched it.

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, artist and writer. He has been influential in popular music and culture for more than five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when his songs chronicled social unrest, although Dylan repudiated suggestions from journalists that he was a spokesman for his generation. Nevertheless, early songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the American civil rights and anti-war movements. After he left his initial base in the American folk music revival, his six-minute single "Like a Rolling Stone" altered the range of popular music in 1965. His mid-1960s recordings, backed by rock musicians, reached the top end of the United States music charts while also attracting denunciation and criticism from others in the folk movement.

Initially inspired by the performances of Little Richard, and the songwriting of Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams, Dylan has amplified and personalized musical genres. His recording career, spanning 50 years, has explored the traditions in American song—from folk, blues, and country to gospel, rock and roll, and rockabilly to English, Scottish, and Irish folk music, embracing even jazz and the Great American Songbook. Dylan performs with guitar, keyboards, and harmonica. Backed by a changing line-up of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s on what has been dubbed the Never Ending Tour. His accomplishments as a

recording artist and performer have been central to his career, but songwriting is considered his greatest contribution.

Since 1994, Dylan has published six books of drawings and paintings, and his work has been exhibited in major art galleries. As a musician, Dylan has sold more than 100 million records, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has also received numerous awards including eleven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award. In May 2012, Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.
