A SEASON OF HOPE: BASKETS OF PROMISE

This Lent, we’re joining Lutheran World Relief in A SEASON OF HOPE to announce to the world the HOPE

of Christ. Each week, we’ll collect a different item that we’ll use to assemble Personal Care Kits that give

people around the world tools to stay healthy in life’s most challenging situations. Donation collection will

begin on Sunday February 18th. A listing of all items we are collecting is in this week’s Grace Notes and also

in the narthex on the Women’s board by the kitchen. If you have any questions, please let us know.

UPDATE FROM THE COUNCIL PRESIDENT At the February Council Meeting, there was a vote to extend the period for any ULC members interested, to

apply for the treasurer’s position. Please drop your resume to the church office or contact Dorothy Klitzke for

more information. The deadline for applicants is now March 1st and it will come to a council vote on

March 8th. ST. PATRICK’S DAY YOUTH FUNDRAISER

SATURDAY, MARCH 17TH @ 5PM-7PM We’re having a traditional Irish stew dinner and all proceeds go to the Youth

Gathering account which will aide in the upcoming trip to Houston, Texas. Please

come out and support our youth and have a great meal in the process! We are asking

for $10 donations, but any amount helps. Tickets are available in the church office

and with Sarah Stephenson. Thank you for your support and with any “luck”, we’ll

FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS! This is going to be an amazing concert event that should be shared by

everyone. Let’s share the love we have with these wonderful children as they sing their hearts out in the name

of hope and peace for all!

MARCH BOOK STUDY: Learning to Walk in the Dark

(March Book Club will meet on March 27th) Barbara Brown Taylor’s Learning to Walk in the Dark provides a way to find spirituality in those times

when we don’t have all the answers. Taylor has become increasingly uncomfortable with our tendency

to associate all that is good with lightness and all that is evil and dangerous with darkness. Doesn’t

God work in the nighttime as well? In Learning to Walk in the Dark, Taylor asks us to put aside our

fears and anxieties and to explore all that God has to teach us “in the dark.” She argues that we need to

move away from our “solar spirituality” and ease our way into appreciating “lunar spirituality” (since,

like the moon, our experience of the light waxes and wanes). Through darkness we find courage, we

understand the world in new ways, and we feel God’s presence around us, guiding us through things

seen and unseen. Often, it is while we are in the dark that we grow the most. With her characteristic

charm and literary wisdom, Taylor is our guide through a spirituality of the nighttime, teaching us how

to find our footing in times of uncertainty and giving us strength and hope to face all of life’s

challenging moments. Kindle devices are available in the church office for checkout if you’d like to

read the book. You can also find it at the library or on Amazon. \

(Gathering & Seating starts at 5:45PM) Tickets for the Seder Dinner will go on sale Thursday, March 1, 2018. Tickets are

$1 per person and may be purchased from the church office. Dorothy Klitzke

will also have tickets available before and after worship service each Sunday in

March. All proceeds from the tickets will go to a charity.
