Appendix to EEC pattern approval certificate

1 REGULATIONS The measuring instrument in respect of which this certificate of EEC pattern approval has been issued is subject to the provisions and requirements of the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) Regulations 1988 (SI 1988 No 186) as amended which implement in the United Kingdom the Council Directives No 71/316/EEC as amended and No 71/319/EEC relating to meters for liquids other than water. 2 DESCRIPTION OF THE PATTERN 2.1 The pattern is a positive displacement oscillating piston principle meter as shown in Figure 1. The volume indicator is driven through gear change wheels from the output shaft which is rotated by the piston. 2.2 The pattern is fitted with an indicator and may be fitted with the following ancillary equipment, made by Neptune, Schlumberger Measurement or Actaris, for which EEC pattern approval has been granted. Zeroising mechanism Totalising volume counter Printing mechanism Pre-setting mechanism The pattern is fitted with a pneumatic two-stage shut off valve which operates under the control of the 800 Series register. The pattern assembly is shown in Figure 2. 3 TECHNICAL DATA Nominal bore: 30 40 50 mm Maximum rate of flow: 140 333 800 litres/minute Minimum rate of flow: 14 33 80 litres/minute Cyclic volume: 0.288 0.415 1.057 litres Maximum working pressure: 8.6 8.6 8.6 bar

Minimum delivery volume... without a printing mechanism: 50 50 50 litres with a printing mechanism: 100 100 100 litres Temperature range: -10 to +60 -10 to +60 -10 to +60 °C Volume of one revolution of first element: 10 10 10 litres Scale interval value: 0.1 0.1 0.1 litres Indicating range: 100 000 100 000 100 000 Liquids measured: Hydrocarbons (except liquified petroleum gas) in the kinematic

viscosity range 0.5 x 10-6 m2/s to 180 x 10-6 m2/s provided that the ratio of viscosities which an individual meter may measure shall not exceed 5:1 and calibration with the actual liquid is performed when outside the viscosity range 1.7 x 10 -6 m 2/s to 15 x 10-6 m2/s.

4 INSCRIPTIONS The following inscriptions are marked on the data plate, which is attached to the meter: (a) sign of EEC pattern approval (b) manufacturer's name: Actaris US Liquid Measurement Inc. (c) model type and description: 4 (or 40)-MT Red Seal Meter (d) serial number and year of manufacture (e) cyclic volume: 0.288, 0.415 or 1.057 litres (f) maximum rate of flow: 140, 333 or 800 litres/min (g) minimum rate of flow: 14, 33, 80 litres/minute (h) maximum working pressure: 8.6 bar (i) temperature range: - 10 to 60 °C (j) liquids to be measured and the viscosity range The following are marked on the dial of the indicating mechanism: (k) the units in which the measured volumes are expressed: litres (l) the minimum delivery: 50 or 100 litres.

5 SECURING AND LOCATION OF VERIFICATION MARK 5.1 Securing The following shall be sealed to prevent unauthorised adjustment or dismantling: (a) the cover of the meter housing (b) the indicator retaining clamps (c) the indicator casing (d) the data plate (e) the calibration mechanism. Where this comprises a separate module located

between the meter body and the register, it is sealed to the meter body. In addition the perspex cover, which is fitted over the indicator cavity on the side of the calibrating mechanism, is clamped in place by a graduated plate and two sealing screws. These screws and the two screws securing the calibrating mechanism cover are also wired and sealed.

5.2 Location of the verification mark The mark of EEC partial verification shall be applied to the meter housing and to the sealing arrangements required at Section 5.1. 6 AUTHORISED ALTERNATIVES 6.1 Having the following model designations and maximum rates of flow: Tank Truck type 4 (or 40) 30 mm 140 litres/minute Tank Truck type 4 (or 40) 40 mm 333 litres/minute 6.2 Having the pneumatically operated two-stage shut off valve replaced by the Type 1 double trip valve which is a mechanical lever operated valve, as shown in the Figure 3. The maximum rate of flow remains the same except in the case of the 50 mm meter where it is limited to 450 litres/minute. 7 SPECIAL VERIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS The meters shall be verified by a minimum of three runs, each of at least one minute duration, at a rate of flow between the maximum and minimum. The following factors should be taken into account upon initial verification: Pattern approval tests have shown that: (a) the errors due to the effects of viscosity do not exceed 0.4% (± 0.2%) for a

change in viscosity of x 8 (an increase in viscosity causes the meter to indicate a greater volume than the volume delivered);

(b) the errors due to the effects of temperature do not exceed 0.22% (± 0.11%) for a

change from + 35 °C to + 45 °C (an increase in temperature causes the meter to

5

indicate a lesser volume than the volume delivered; (c) the errors due to the effects of pressure do not exceed 0.36% (± 0.18%) for a

change from 1 bar to 7 bar (an increase in pressure causes the meter to indicate a lesser volume than the volume delivered;

(d) an endurance test of 300 hours at 800 litres/min caused no significant change in

accuracy of the meter. The test liquid used shall be the liquid for which the meter is intended or a liquid within the kinematic viscosity range 1.7 x 10-6 m2/s to 15 x 10-6 m2/s (1.7 cSt to 15 Cst) at a temperature of approximately 20 °C.
