Marvalley Lecture Series:

Introduction to

Landscape Architecture

is a PRC pre-accredited

program for architects

provided by the United

Architects of the

Philippines applied by

UAP Marikina Valley

Chapter. A successful

CPD program for

Marvalley Architects!

This thematic course introduced participants to the

breadth of the profession of Landscape Architecture. The

purpose of this introductory course is to instill an

understanding of the profession of landscape

architecture, a profession defined as an art and science of

planning or designing on the land, arranging and creating

spaces and objects in a landscape for human use. The

participants were noticed to be very attentive during the

entire seminar proper as the speaker Ar. Heray did an

interesting presentation. After his talk several participants

actively, asked questions regarding the topic. The

questions raised were about, drainage consideration to

landscaping, the services rendered by landscape

architects, conflict regarding overlapping practices

between architecture and landscape architecture. An

interesting question, raised by Ar. Grace Anne Tamesis

was about the problems and consideration that arises to

spirits living within old trees and the environment.

chairman of Red Cross project Ar. Caroline Victorino, treasurer Ar.

Merijill Medenilla, Directors Ar. Romeo Miramonte Jr., Ar. Raymond

Munar, and past president Ar. Roger Victorino. The architectural and

planning division of Marikina City hall laid Mayor Marci’s instruction

on the project and the whole group agrees on putting inputs for the

project. Items also discussed was the approved old ordinances for the

heritage zone for which it has not yet fully implemented, the lot plan

and tax declaration of the site, ownership of the lot and the building,

the setbacks and parking requirements, the re-routing & flow of traffic

and the overall impact of setting up a tourist attraction site. At first,

the city hall staffs’ offer another building location for the Red Cross

and the proposed 4 sty building will be solely occupied by the tourism

offices. Everyone okays with that until Mayor Marcelino Teodoro came

at the meeting and voiced his concerns for the operation of the red

Cross. He instructed us to make a schematic design of Red Cross with

Tourism Information Center Building to blend in the heritage zone

using new and alternative materials and finishes that would last. Also,

the establishing of the site includes other existing building to facelift,

making path walks for the tourism walking tour and souvenir shops for

the tourist.

During our courtesy call to mayor

Marvalley Architects was given a task

to design the Proposed Red Cross and

Tourism Information Center Building

at #2 V. Gomez St. cor J.P. Rizal St., San

Roque, Marikina City. The building

where it is located at the moment had

been the site of the old Marikina

Municipal Hall and the place has its

historical and Cultural importance to

Marikenos. Our beloved Mayor was

inspired by our continuous advocacy

on the heritage conservation that it

has become also his vision to create

the long-lost history of Marikina to be

recreated thru the development of a

Heritage Zone.
