How do the Sun’s position in the sky and the length of daylight relate to the seasons of the year? Explain. (+2 pts)

The sun is highest in the sky and the daylight is longest at the beginning of summer. The sun is lowest in the sky and the daylight is shortest during winter.

Page 4: Unit Test Activity 71-84

What is the relationship between the length of daylight and the Sun’s angle? Explain. (+2 pts)

They change together. Both increase from January to their highest level on June 2 then drop to their lowest level on December 21. This pattern repeats each year.

Using a Venn diagram compare and contrast rotation and revolution. (+6 pts)

Label each circle of the Venn diagram

Rotation- causes day/night, spins around an axis, 24 hours long

Revolution- causes year, Earth moves around the Sun, 365.25 days long

Both- movements of Earth, defines a period of time, counter-clockwise

Axis- An imaginary line about which a body rotates.

Revolve- To move around another body.

Revolution- The orbiting of one body around another.

Rotate- To turn on its axis.

Crescent Moon- The phase of the moon when less than ½ of the moon is lit up.

Full Moon- The moon when it looks like it is completely lit up.

First Quarter Moon- The phase of the moon when the right ½ is lit up and the left ½ is dark.

Gibbous Moon- The moon phase where more than ½ the moon is lit up.

Last Quarter Moon- The phase of the moon when the left ½ is lit up and the right ½ is dark.

Lunar Cycle- The cycle of moon phases.

New Moon- The moon when it is totally dark and not visible.

Disadvantage- An Absence of advantage or equality.

High tide- The time of the day when the water level reaches the highest point.

Low tide- The time of the day when the water level is the lowest.

Moon phase- The illuminated portion of the moon as seen by Earth.

regions of the globe approximately coinciding with meridians.

Hemisphere- Half of a sphere.
