Choose one of the following options below. You may work with a partner or alone.

    1. Write an original short story (at least 4 pages double spaced). It should include an

original title and at least five of the following literary terms we discussed during this unit:

    Suspense Foreshadowing Dramatic Irony

    Internal Conflict

    Verbal Irony

    Situational Irony Symbolism Ambiguity Flashback

Characterization Point of View External Conflict

    (direct/indirect)

In your story, you must highlight each part where you used a literary term and write the

literary term in the margin next to it.

    2. Design a classified advertisement for a job position that would appear in a newspaper.

Then, select a character from a short story weve read and type a resume from thatcharacter as if he/she is applying for the job opening. Be sure to choose a well-detailed

character that we know much about. The ad must be designed and written to look like a

real newspaper ad and the resume must resemble an actual resume (one full pageincluding a cover letter). In the resume, include an objective, prior positions and job

experience, education/schools and degrees (if any), hobbies and interests. The final

component is a list of interview questions the employer would ask the character and the

answers the character would give on the interview for the job (at least 10 questions andanswers). Make sure the responses include information relating to the short story the

character is in. (Must be typed)

    3. Create a comic strip or a storyboard for one of the stories weve read. Be sure that the

captions and illustrations explain the main events of the plot. You dont have to include

every detail only those that are most important in the story. The pictures may be

elaborate or simple, but effective. As part of your comic strip add onto the ending of thestory. Where would it go from there? Add at least two additional scenes. You should

have at least 12 scenes with captions underneath each explaining what is occurring ineach scene. The strip should look colorful and creative.

    4. Rewrite three of the short stories as a poem or a song. Be sure to include important

details, symbols, incidents and conflicts. Each poem or song should be at least 10 lineslong and typed with an original title (the song could be a rap) BE CREATIVE.

    5. Create a poster on which you choose at least one symbol to represent each story weveread in this Unit (there are 6 stories total). Underneath each symbol, write a paragraph

explaining what the symbol is, what it means and how it best represents each story. Theposter must be large, colorful and creative.

    6. Create a 3-D model of an important scene in one of the short stories. In the model,

you should include as much detail from the story to show the actual event and

surroundings of the characters in the story. The scene should include characters, settingand a one page explanation of the scene you chose, why it is important in the story and

what details you included in your model.
