Sgt Ford is giving a lesson on weapon handling.All weapons are lethal. That means they can kill you. One of themost important things in weapon training is knowrng the rules ofsafety. We call these "normal safety precautions". Soldiers whodon't follow these rules are very dangeror:s. They can wound oraccidentally kill their friends.Here are the main rules, L:isten carefi:lly.

r Always point your rifle in a safe direction. Don't point it atanother person unless you intend to kill him. It makes nodrfference if the rifle is loaded or not.

r Don't load your rrfle unless you have to.

r Don't play with the trigger. Keep your finger off the trigger if itdoesn't have to be there.

r Keep the safety catch applied, Don't release it unless you'regoing to fire the rifle,

r Assume that a weapon is loaded until you have cleared it. Alwaysunload it and clear it as soon as possible. Make swe that it isclear rf you hand it to anyone.

r Keep close to your rifle. Don't leave it unattended. Don't rest itagainst walls, for example, or the sides of vehicles.
