ANTIETAM/SHARPSBURG SEPTEMBER 16-18, 1862

I.  In late 1862 General Lee planned to invade Union territory in an attempt to take the US capital Washington, D.C.

II.  Lee wanted a signature victory to gain British support for the southern effort
