VERTEBRATES

Mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles have a backbone or

skeleton, they are vertebrales.

Birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles lay eggs, they are oviparous.

Mammals are viviparous because the embryos grow inside the

mother’s body.

★ Mammals: they have fur or hair. The mother feeds the babies with her

milk. They live on land and in water. They are viviparous. Examples:

humans, dogs,

dolphins, whales, etc.

★ Birds: they have feathers, a beak, two legs and two wings. They can fly.

They live in air. They are oviparous. Examples: eagles, seagulls, doves, etc.

★ Fish: they have scales and they have gills to breathe. They live in water.

They are oviparous. Examples: salmon, clownfish, etc.

★ Amphibians: they have smooth skin. They live on land and in water. They

are

oviparous. Examples: frogs, salamanders, etc.

★ Reptiles: they have scales or shell. They live on land or in water. They are

oviparous. Examples: snakes, lizards, tortoises, etc.

INVERTEBRATES

Insects, arachnids and other animals don’t have a backbone or

skeleton, they are invertebrates. All invertebrates are oviparous.

★ Insects: they have six legs, two or four wings and two antennas. Examples:

fly,

butterfly, dragonfly, bee, wasp, grasshopper, etc.

★ Arachnids: they have eight legs. Examples: spiders, tarantulas, etc.

★ Other animals: some examples are jellyfish, starfish, snail, worm, etc.
