The Brief Rehearsing for Solo Performance Unit 23 Music Performance Techniques During the rehearsal period for your solo and ensemble performances you will work on ways to improve your performance techniques, these include the accuracy, fluency, and dexterity of your voice or instrument. These things plus the tone, timing and rhythmic control of your playing must be self-assessed and a plan in place to improve (GC1), a record of which will be logged in your Project Diary. You will perform as part of an ensemble for the “fresher’s” gig (GC3). At the end of the process you will be asked to perform three contrasting solo pieces in front of your peers in the venue (GC2). This your opportunity to show your technical ability in a way that will be expected of you for university or employment auditions, but also a good point of reference should you need to refine your rehearsal strategy to improve for future performances. During a group session there will be ‘initial assessment’ where you will consider your personal technical, physical and mental skills and how they affect your performance as a musician (use the attached sheet).
