Where Do Cornflakes Come From?

The cornflakes you ate for breakfast began life as a corn seed. A farmer

planted the seed in a fertile field and hoped it would rain. The weather was

kind, so the seed grew into a tall plant with a thin stalk and many seed heads.

When the silks on the corn were dry and brown, the farmer harvested the

corn. He drove it to a silo and sold it. The corn was kept at the silo, away

from rats and rain, until it was needed. Then it went by truck or train to a mill

for grinding.

After this, the ground corn was taken to a factory and made into cornflakes.

Finally, you bought a packet of cornflakes and ate the lot. All the cornflakes

came from that one little corn seed in the farmer’s field.

I hope you enjoyed them.
