You will have to download a packet tracer for this lab. On p. 42 of Network Fundamentals: CCNA Exploration Labs and
Study Guide, complete Lab 2-1: Topology Orientation and Building a Small Network, tasks 1-3, and lab 2-2: Using Wireshark to View Protocol Data Units, task 1. Answer all questions as you go. Because most of you only have one PC, construct a small peer-to-peer network in Packet Tracer.
Lab 2.1: ◦ Task 1, skip step 1, use Packet Tracer to create a two-workstation
environment to complete the task. Task 2, research what the color the pins for a straight-through
and crossover cable. Task 3, use Packet Tracer to complete the task. Include a
screenshot for your pings. Lab 2.2: Task 1, install Wireshark before starting this task.
Finish this Unit with step 4 on p. 56. Create a Word document with answers and screenshots.

Drag 2 PCs to the work area

Click the LIGHTNING BOLT to show cable types
Select the correct cable type – copper crossover
Click on PC1 and drag to PC2 to make the connection. Be sure to choose the proper connection interface

Insert the correct IP address
Press TAB for the default subnet mask
Click X to closeRepeat for PC2

Click SIMULATION on the bottom right of the Packet Tracer Screen
Go back to PC1 for this screen. Click COMMAND PROMPT
Execute the PING command
Minimize the COMMAND PROMPT

Click AUTO CAPTURE/PLAY to watch the data move from one to the other. This is much slower than it really would be. You will see little envelopes move back and forth

The EVENT LIST shows each packet as it moves back and forth the color codes will help identify them
