    WARM-UP ( Vocabulary revision Guessing game)

    Eight words for guessing:

    1. fossil fuel 5. nuclear power

    2. solar energy 6. alternative energy

    3. water power 7. wind power

    4. solar panel 8. geothermal energy

    Lead-in: In todays speaking lesson, you will practice talking

    about the advantages as well as disadvantages of each source of

    energy.

    II. NEW LESSON

    1. Activity 1: Vocabulary Teaching

    - reactor(n) a large structure used for the controlled production

    of nuclear energy

    - radiation (n) powerful and very dangerous rays that are sent out

    from radioactive substance

    - enormous (a) extremely large = huge

    - renewable (a) of energy and natural resources) that is replaced

    naturally, is used without the risk of finishing it all

    >< non-renewable (a): that cannot be replaced after use (gas, oil)

    2. Activity 2: Take them home

    a. It is not only plentiful but unlimited but also safe and clean.

    b. They will be exhausted in a relatively short time

    c. Reactor explosion happens sometimes and kills many people,

    pollutes the air.

    d. It might be cheap as well.

    e. If the wind does not blow, there is no wind energy.

    f. It requires advanced technology.

    g. It is available only in a few places in the world.

    - This activity helps Ss

    revise the vocabulary

    related to the topic

    Energy

    - Ss work in 2 groups.

    One member of each

    group in turn has to

    explain the word just by

    using English without

    saying that word, not

    Vietnamese so that his

    group can guess the

    word.- After four turns, the

    group with more points

    will be the winner.

    - Teacher introduces the

    new words by giving

    definitions, examples,

    synonyms, symbols and

    Vietnamese meanings.

    - T asks Ss to repeat

    some words.

    - Ss work in 6 groups.

    - T gives each group

    hand-out containing 18

    statements and a Table.

    - Ss have to discuss and

    fill Advantages and

    Disadvantages of each

    kind of energy in Table
