We are NOT sufficiently consuming the information we producebecause we are not digitizing, standardizing, bounding the data and data groups in the

maximum productive way!

Actual Life Cycle of a Typical Physical Information:Cumbersome process, nonproductive activities and loss of valuable information

Page 5: Unique Challenges and Benefits for BIM in Airport

We have a long way to go!

CHALLENGE

Projects are mostly similar in the way they face problems, but the amount and the magnitude of the problems are drastically increased with the increasing size and complexity of the projects we are undertaking.

That means more data, better interrelation and information reports thereof are required for the best decision.

Design Benefits• CDE for multi-national and cross-country/continent

stakeholdersBoth HAMAD and MTB airport projects were having over 1000 white collar personnel at its peak! Who were creating, modifying, communicating, discussing to build a digital project.

• Single Source of Truth: Federated & combined models

Thousands of model files combined during both projects and all the coordination reviews and decisions thereof are made possible with highest accuracy.

• EDMS for RACI implementation, official documentation, records and latest information

100s and 1000s of data process and document submission made during the construction, ORAT and operation execution.

• As Built with laser scanning for maximized verification and as built records

Especially ID related “shall and core” areas such as kiosks, commercial zones, etc. benefits from it in maximum possible way.

Planning, Execution & ORAT

• Seamless Shop Drawing Production from Models

Highest accuracy of site execution with maximized match between models and drawings.

• Site Inputs

Data collection, efficient data management, effective data sharing, and data transfer.

• Logistics and 4D

Extra productive especially for the renovation, capacity increase and expansion projects.

• ERP Integration

Highest level of material procurement management, warehouse management, material tracking and material order procedure.

• RFID

Material tracking systems helping to manage millions of dollars worth material. Integration with ERP system will provide the best output.

• COBie

Data collection, efficient data management and data sharing.

Change Management

• TimesheetsProperly defined and clustered, cumulatively reviewed and standardized, linked to model structure, baseline program and BIM status report with easy identification

• BIM Status(Progress) reports Officially recorded and submitted, recorded on the weekly basis based on BIM Execution Plan.

• Model ChecklistsA detailed version of tracker lists, recording details of the individual model content on weekly basis as minimum.

• KPI analysisLinked to timesheets, monitored and analyzed on weekly basis highlighting project crucial notes in order to identify key events and their impacts.

Any Digital Tool does not mean Solution:

There are plenty of software on the market which are not

satisfactory for the job. Look out for new products all the time!

Despite the blockade and COVID-19, HAMAD airport annual report for 2019-20 shows overall revenue and other operating income is QAR 51.1 billion where the AM/FM has a critical role to keep the project alive and optimized.
