Fathers’ Day Well-known South African author on parenting

topics Nikki Bush, writes that fathers have to

strike the balance between being both tough

and tender. How dads 'are' with their children

has a massive influence on how they will value

and respect themselves down the line. When

children are able to trust both their dads'

toughness and tenderness, these are just some

of the benefits: raised confidence levels, a

sense of security, self-respect, assertiveness,

how to be male (in boys), how to allow yourself

to be treated by men (in girls), how to express

emotions in a healthy way.

I've used the term Pappa as an acronym below

for effective fathering:

P.........Present: This means emotional and

physical presence and being really 'in the

moment' when you are with your kids. Actually,

many dads do this better than mums because

dads are not quite so good at multitasking.

A.........Available: Don't be so busy that your

kids think you don't care. Remember the heart-

wrenching story of the boy who found out how

much his dad's time was worth per hour at

work, and saved up enough to buy an hour of his

dad's time.

P.........Proud: Teach kids to value themselves

by valuing and believing in them. Show pride in

both their achievements and their journey in

getting there, even it if is a place in the D

team! Don’t live vicariously through your

children. It is an unfair burden to expect them

to perform so that you feel good about

yourself. Your children are not you and may

never become a clone of you. Love them for who

they are, not what you expect them to be.

P..........Protective: Dads are a symbol of

physical and emotional security and they are

often less easy to manipulate than mums when it

comes to implementing boundaries. While you

may be the family 'fixer' on many levels, your

role is also to teach your children to become

resourceful and resilient in themselves. These

are the tools they will use to create their own

happiness and success one day.

A.........Attentive: Pay attention. Listen. Talk

and share. Do things together and always, and

in every moment, strive to be a celebration and

example of positive human connection. Dads,

here's wishing you a very happy Father's Day.

May you be celebrated, honoured and adored

and keep aiming to strike the balance between

being tough and tender.

WhatsApp Groups New technologies are often received with great

enthusiasm, and only after they have been used for

some time do disadvantages become apparent. So it

is with our WhatsApp groups. It is easy to see the

usefulness of a Class or Grade Group but, as in any

other forms of interaction, certain etiquette must

be adhered to.

Some obvious proprieties:

member of school staff, academic or otherwise,

staff member. Phone the office for an appointment.

-Please use the proper names of persons discussed

on the platform, especially where it involves

teachers, as each and every one of our staff

members is a professional employee of our school

and deserve this recognition.

-If the name of the person under discussion on the

WhatsApp needs to be concealed please understand

that the issue at hand should not be under

discussion at all on a social platform.

------------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL MONTROSE NEWS ------------------------------------------------------------

-Please note: The warnings we give our children about

cyber bullying, liabilities, legal repercussions etc. also

applies to adults.

-Schools, generally, have always had to contend

problems arising from unfounded “car-park rumours”.

We all know how damaging a rumour can be. We

request all parents to assist us by not amplifying this

problem by broadcasting “what-I-have-heard” on

social platforms.

We would like to emphasize that the WhatsApp

groups are not initiated by the school, as we use SMS

and emails to communicate urgent messages. Hence

June Soup Month for Grade 2 During June the Grade 2 classes are collecting dry

soup ingredients to distribute to those in need of a

hot plate of nourishing soup to get through the

winter. Last year nearly a truckload of ingredients

was collected and distributed. If every child brings

one or two of the following items we can do the

same this year: packets of soup mix, dried beans

and pulses, lentils, barley, chick peas, stock cubes,

etc.

Go-Kart Derby – From the MPA

Thank you to everyone for contributing your time

and influence to support the Montrose Go Kart day

on 29th May.

We had a busy assembly on Wednesday, 10 June,

and unfortunately our Go Kart news had to share

time with the rest of the school news as well as the

Cricket boys leaving for the UK. As a result, not all

the Go-Kart announcements were made.

On Friday, 19 June, during morning assembly, we

would like to recognise our sponsors for sponsoring

a pit stop or making a donation to our Go Kart day.

We had such a successful fundraiser, and it would

not have been possible without your generous

support and parent assistance.

Thank you to the following families:

Family Ward-Smith-Faustino for Caltex/Ferruccio

Pit stop, Family Ravjee for Mr Sweet,

Family Heidstra for Parkmore Spar, Family

Rix for Cleanquip and DKD, Family Dias for Ster

Kinekor and Family Nupen for Amici’s Pizza.

Although we are still calculating the final figures,

the MPA estimates to make a profit of

approximately R 97 000.00, which the school will

use to help improve the educational environment and

add benefits to our children.

Mini Council Blanket Drive The Mini- council is still collecting blankets.

Please help our councillors and donate new or old,

clean blankets. These may be given to the teacher

or dropped off at the school office.
