UNICEF High School Clubs JUNE 2015 NEWSLETTER Child Protection and Emergencies When an emergency strikes, children require special protection to ensure their safety and well-being. UNICEF is committed to protecting children from the immediate and long-term effects of natural disasters and armed conflicts, which expose children to violence, abuse and exploitation. Here are some ways you can get involved: Support current crises UNICEF is currently dealing with such as Syria, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Nepal by hosting a fundraiser and educating others at your school. See our sample week of events for ideas. Write an op-ed in your school newspaper to educate people on UNICEF's work on emergencies. How to Stay Involved During the Summer Just because school is ending doesn't mean your club has to stop its amazing work! Here are some ways to stay involved: Collaborate with clubs by checking out the club map. Begin planning activities for next year such as hosting a strong interest meeting and organizing new activities. Check out our how-to videos for best practices. Turn your favorite summer activities into events and fundraisers for UNICEF! Host a fundraising picnic, an outdoor benefit concert, or a pool party where you can remit donations to UNICEF for tickets, food, & beverages! Club Highlights Please send us your club stories so we can highlight your club! Providence High School (NC) recently organized a “Swing for UNICEF” Tennis Tournament to fund educational supplies in developing countries! They collected a $5 entrance fee from all attendees. Global Learning Collaborative High School (NY) hosted a school basketball fundraiser for the Nepal emergency and raised over $1200! Cheshire High School (CT) raised $180.50 for the Nepal Emergency Fund through their bake sale! Stuyvesant High School UNICEF Club held their awesome fundraiser “Nibbles for Nepal!” IMPORTANT ITEMS Complete the Reporting and Reflection Survey by June 15 if you haven’t already. This is mandatory for all clubs and will automatically re-register your club for the next school year. Remit all of your funds by June 10. You can use your Crowdrise page or the Mail-In Donation form.
