THE

L I B R A R Y

C O R N E R

The Rev. Dr. ArloReichter, Executive Minister of AmericanBaptist Churches in Wisconsin, spoke toUnderwood February 7, providing a concisehistory of Baptists and explaining ourAmerican Baptist mission. He donatedcopies of three booklets that will enrich ourknowledge about Baptist history andtheology. A set will be processed for thelibrary collection soon. Personal copies areavailable on the Mission Table.

SuggestionsBecause of the budget shortfall, we have nolibrary budget this year. It is important to becreative so we will have new books to offeryou. One suggestion is that you honor ormemorialize a friend or loved one with abook, perhaps for a birthday or holiday.

The children’s section needs refreshing, somy goal is to research new children’s booksand make a list available for you to choose

from.Secret Heart Sisters, you could buy a bookin your SHS’s honor. As a confidential go-between, I’ll process the book and then giveit to your SHS to read before it is madeavailable to other Underwood readers.

We do accept used books, as long as theymeet our acceptance rules. Copies of therules are on the library desk.

A “new” book this month

Thank you, Letha Taylor, for donating thebeautiful book, Destination America .Through pictures, art and text, It tells thestory of the people who have come fromevery corner of our planet to make theirhome in America. The book was acompanion volume to the 2005 PBStelevision series by David Grubin.

WITH WILLING HANDS

CONNECT. CARE. CELEBRATE

March is the month when American BaptistChurches collect the America for Christ Offering. Underwood’s goal this year is

$800 Our gifts will support Christ-centeredministries that are transforming lives acrossthe United States and Puerto Rico – fromaddressing Children in Poverty initiativesand resettling refugees violently driven fromtheir homelands to providing evangelismtraining, developing discipleship resourcesand leading ministry workshops andconferences. Whew! Those are powerfulobjectives. We’ve been talking more about missions atUnderwood lately, to become aware of whatwe are doing outside of our home base.Underwood’s annual $12,144 contribution toAmerican Baptist Churches Mission equalsseven percent of our 2010 budget. If all fourof the special offerings taken in March,June, September and December meets the$3,500 total goal, our 2010 mission givingwill nearly reach 10 percent. We can beproud if we accomplish that.

During the March campaign, please watchfor and read the bulletin inserts. Then planto give as generously as you can. Use theenvelope included with this Tidings.Envelopes will be available also in the pewpockets.

Do you have willing hands? We hope so.Follow our progress on the mission boardAmerica for Christ poster.

Together we can touch and change lives forthe cause of Christ. Together we can makea difference. “For the love of Christ urges us on...” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
