11 years ago, sitting in the back of T-Bones Restaurant in Underwood, three individuals
brainstormed an idea. They wanted a way of bringing people to Underwood, benefiting our
local businesses and community. The idea that Butch Bauman, Scott Sackman, and Brian
Skogan came up with was a Classic Car Show. It would line main street with beautiful cars and
bring families out and together for a day of fun.
Four founding members remain, Jim and Deb Hatzenbuhler, Kellie Weisenburger, and Jimmy
Hatzenbuhler. And, although our committee has changed through the years, our goal has
remained the same. Bringing families together, benefiting local businesses, and supporting our
community and the people in it remains steadfast. Each year we are proud to support
scholarships for youth camps, as well as a lucky senior or seniors in a “Classic Scholarship”.
Our winner with year is Mikayla Leroy. Mikayla demonstrates great love and support of
community by her continual volunteerism. She is active with school and community events, as
well as her family farm. She has also proudly drove a classic in the event in prior years, and we
are honored to have her lead our parade this year! Congratulations Mikayla!
The event is held the last Saturday in June, every year. We’ve added events through the years,
and the current day looks like a parade that kicks off at noon, an audio competition at 12:30, a
vendor show, the car show that lines main street and has morphed to some 120-130 cars from
12:30-3pm, a kidszone, burnout contest, an awards ceremony, frozen t-shirt contest, a double
header street dance.
Christian Motorcycle Association and Wheels of Faith have filled American Bank Centers parking
lot, year after year, with eager and smiling kids. From inflatables to face painting, laser tag to
other kid approved events, all of this is FREE of charge, to entertain the youth.
The double header street dance this year will feature Frantic Anarchy at 5pm. What a treat, as
one band member, Natalie Forde (Eslinger)- is a local, and is excited to return “home” to provide
some amazing rock music. Closing the night is Tripwire- back by popular demand. Tripwire will
go on at 9pm and is sure to more than please the crowd once more.
This event would not be possible without our committee. All volunteers who give and give and
give. The over and above efforts year after year make this event a continued success. Thank you
all.
Joining us on June 26th will sure be worth the trip to Underwood. You’ll see some classic cars
and motorcycles; you’ll maybe find an item or two at the vendor show. You’ll be amazed at the
sounds and cheers coming from the burnout and audio competition area. The kids smiling and
laughing will bring a smile to your face as well. Stay and dance the night away. The street
dance has a $10 admission, and with 8 hours of solid music, what a deal- and Oh What A Day!

This week we traveled to the west end of Third
Street, to the home of Mike & Dianna Anderson
on the corner of Third Street & Dakota Ave. The
large manicured yard has many things to take a
look at. On the corner are 2 large rock gardens
with a cream separator, cream can, and
driftwood. In front of the house a burgundy
peony was in full bloom. There are various other
flowers and garden stakes too. Look for the
flower stake made from golf clubs! Next to the
brick patio area is a garden bench with flowers &
bird houses. The deck and patio look like a
wonderful place for al fresco dining and
