Background NotesThis document explains which settings are migrated by USMT 4.0 replacement and OS-provided manifest XML files. It is organized by component, notes the manifest for a more detailed examination, gives a synopsis of what is migrated, and provides one or more sample graphical interfaces to the settings when possible. This document is not a complete list of all settings migrated or application interfaces, but instead provides a high-level entry point for an administrator to dig into details. Unlike Windows XP, Windows Vista migration uses both USMT-provided replacement manifests as well as manifests scoped for USMT within the "c:\windows\winsxs\manifests" folder. In the examples below, the path is provided to one of the possible included manifests within c:\windows - it is not necessarily the XML manifest used, as it will differ by operating system, service pack, and hotfix installation.
This document only applies to Windows Vista SP2 as a source computer OS running SCANSTATE.EXE.
For further info on CONFIG.XML and the USMT manifests, examine:

Sticky Notes 1
Config Entry<component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-Gadgets-stickyNotes" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-gadgets-stickynotes/microsoft-windows-gadgets-stickynotes/settings"/>
Config Manifest"\USMT\x86\ReplacementManifests\stickynotes-replacement.man"
Behavior SynopsisCreates a per-user virtual upgrade status registry value that will be written to the destination OS, only if the source OS is Windows Vista. If that destination OS is Windows 7, the Sticky Notes tool will read the upgrade value when first started and convert any existing sticky notes to the newer format. Has no effect on Vista to Vista migrations. Used in conjunction with TABLETPCSTICKYNOTES-REPLACEMENT.MAN, which migrates the actual settings (see Sticky Notes 2). There is no UI for this setting.
