Attention! The Governor has given your construction
company the opportunity to create a new city in your
state. Of course, you are not the only company who
will be submitting city proposals. You must present
your new city to the Governor on the four-quadrant
grid paper provided. Have fun and good luck!

Your company is asked to create a city. Your proposal will be completed
on the 4-quadrant grid paper provided.
1. Theme: Choose a theme for your city. Examples could be sports,
movie, music, animals, movies, favorite season, etc.
2. Streets: You must include at least FIVE streets in your city. The
streets must be labeled and relate to your overall theme. The
streets must run parallel or perpendicular, no diagonals. The
streets must be in a different color other than black.
3. Buildings: You must have at least FIVE buildings in your city. The
buildings must be labeled and relate to your overall theme. Make
sure the entrance to each building is labeled with an “E.” Each
building should be a different color.
4. Scale: You must make a scale at the bottom of your map (1 cm
=1/8 mile).
5. Park: You must include a park somewhere in your city. Color your
park green, include an “E” for entrance, and be sure to label it
with a name that relates to the overall theme.
6. Attraction: You must include an attraction in your city that
relates to your theme. This could be many things. Examples are an
amusement park, a movie theatre, a stadium, etc. Label the name
of your attraction and make it colorful.
7. Questions: You must write three questions about your city that
another classmate would need to use coordinates to answer. The
questions should be about distances between places you could visit
in your city, exact locations, or other. Examples could be:
What are the exact coordinates to the entrance to __?
What building is located at (7, -1)?
What is the distance between __and __?
8. Answer Key: You must make an answer key on a separate piece of
paper to go along with your questions. Please double check to
make sure the answers are correct. Make sure your name is on
your answer key.
9. Business Card: Please fill out the business card. Be sure to include
your company name, a catchy theme, contact information, and a
picture. You must also add color.
10. Turning in Proposal: When turning in your proposal, please staple
your business card, your signed contract, your city drawing, and
your questions and answer key.
