What Are Bedbugs?Briefly: 1/4” long, oval, flat, 6 legs and reddish‐brown in color.

Nymphs—which look like small adults—become adults in 5 weeks. They go through 5 molts to reach adult size—meaning they shed their old, smaller skin 5 times. They must feed before each molt.

Bed bugs grow fastest and lay most eggs at about 80°F.

They feed only on blood.

They feed when people are sleeping or sitting quietly,          often when it’s dark.

They seek shelter in cracks and crevices when not feeding.

Adults, nymphs and eggs can survive sustained heat and cold if given time to adjust.

Can be found in the cleanest of clean places, but clutter makes them harder to get rid of.

They have no “grooming behavior”—meaning that insecticides meant to be swallowed by roaches and flies won’t work on bed bugs.

The Resilient Bedbug!

Bedbugs can lay between 1 – 5 eggs per day with an incubation period of 10 days in warm weather (slightly longer when cool).

Newly hatched bedbugs require 5 significant blood feedings to reach adult size.

Adult female bedbugs can lay more than 200 eggs during their lifetime; the new generation of bedbugs will immediately seek a blood meal.

Adult bed bugs can live for 6‐9 months with or without food.

Bed bugs puncture skin

and suck blood, similar

to mosquitoes.

Where Have Bedbugs Been?

Bedbugs were part of many peoples’ lives in the U.S. and around the world before World War II.Increases in immigration and travel from the developing world may be factors that have led to the relatively recent increase in bed bug infestations.Bed bugs were once all but eradicated with broad‐spectrum pesticides such as DDT, which killed a wide variety of bug types. Concerns about health and the environment led to many of these pesticides being removed from the market.

Bed bugs were a rarity in the US from the early 1950’s through the late 1990’s. A whole generation of people grew up who’d never seen one.

Is There Anything I Can Do To Prevent Bedbugs?

Keep beds slightly away from walls, furniture, curtains.

Inspect used mattresses or upholstered furniture before bringing them into your home.

Look for signs of bedbugs along the seams of mattresses, in places where you stay.

How Do I Use Claire Lice Killer?

TO KILL BEDBUGS: Apply as a spot treatment to cracks and crevices around baseboards, floorboards, headboards and walls.  First thoroughly clean and air mattresses and springs.  Then spot treat only areas that may harbor pests.  On mattresses concentrate on tufts, folds and seams.  Repeat as necessary.

C‐006 LICE KILLER has a 5 day residual effect

C‐006 LICE KILLER kills BY contact, not ON contact

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO KILL BEDBUGS?

The bedbug needs to come in contact with the product, absorb it through their exoskeleton and then attack its nervous system ‐which then kills them.  Due to the various strains of bedbugs, to kill them may take a few minutes, a few hours or longer.

Bedbug Pandemic?

“The results of the ‘2010 Comprehensive Global Bed Bug Study’ suggest that we

are on the threshold of a bed bugpandemic, not just in the United States,

but around the world,” says Missy Henriksen, vice president of public affairs for NPMA, in a news release.
