Andrea Ford
is
the
CEO/Service
Leader
and
Founder
of Childrens Autism Foundation. She has proven her
professionalism, commitment, innovation and tenac ity in
establishing a service that is now in high de mand and meeting the
needs of children with ASD and their whanau/family across the
Auckland region.
Andreas professional background is in Nurs ing and Midwifery,
and for the last 8 years the Service Leader and CEO of Childrens
Autism Foundation.
Her nursing and midwifery experience provided sound assessment
and analysis skills, now paired with a proactive solution focussed
approach and in depth training in person centred planning. Andrea
is deeply committed to promoting inclusion and raising awareness
for all people with disabilities. Andreas belief is that all people
have value and have a right to the support and accommoda tions they
need to participate fully in their communities.
As the parent of a child with ASD, Andrea brings powerful,
personal insight to the lived experience of whanau/family and a
practical, solution focussed ap proach. Understanding the dynamics
of whanau/family, and how priorities and values differ, enables her
to work in partnership with the child and parents to assist in
identifying and finding the specific solutions they need.

This workshop
will
provide
an
in
depth introduction to Understanding a person with Autism
Spectrum Disorder, in particular the Triad of Impair ments and
Sensory issues.
This knowledge will assist those living and working with
children or adults with autism. It is suitable for both
family/whanau and professionals. The format of th e workshop will
allow for questions and discussion, and sharing of scenarios that
concern you.
You will receive a handout of the presentation and you can
expect to have some skills that will help you in your daily living
or work with some one with ASD. This is an introductory level
workshop, however you will receive sufficient information to help
you understand how a person with ASD may be affected by the environ
ment and interaction with those around them.
