    STARTING WITH A 6 X 6 X 8 VOLUMEAND SHIFTING IT NO MORE THEN TWO TIMES, THEVOLUME MUST ADAPT TO HOUSE THREE SLEEPING

    SPACES AND INTERIOR CIRCULATION.

    BY SLICING DIAGONALLY ACROSS THE SIDE OF THE VOLUME AND SHIFTING UPWARDS, THE SPACE BEGINS TO RETHINK AN ENTRANCE

    BY FORCING A USER TO ENTER BY ROLLING THOUGH THE ENTRANCE AND THEN MOVING ONLY VERTICALLYTHROUGH A CIRCULATION SHAFT BETWEEN THE THREE SPACES. THE STRIP WINDOWS COME IN RESPONSE TO BOTH A NEED FOR CROSS

    VENTILATION AND IN REPSONSE TO THE NEIGHBORING CONDITIONS AND A WAY TO CREATE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE THREE UNITS.

    BOTH THE MODULAR AND CONSTRUCTION CONCEPTS ARE FORMED FROM THE RECTANGULAR ELEVATION TO ACCOMADATE SHIPPING AND PACKAGING IN THE ORIGINAL VOLUMETRIC FORM. THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM WARPS TYPICAL WOOD FRAMING TO CONFORM TO THE ANGLES OF THE MODULAR SCHEME.

    MOSQUES RELY HEAVILY UPON DIRECTIONALLITY TO THE MIRAB WHICH IS DIRECTED AT THE KAABA, THE MOST HOLY POINT OF THE ISLAMIC RELIGION IN MECCA.THE MOSQUE RE-APPROACHES THE DIRECTIONALITY OF ITS CONGREGATION BY USING A CURVED MIRAB TO REMOVE EMPHASIS FROM A SPECIFIC DIRECTION AS PEOPLE GATHER AROUND THE IMAM. THE ROOF BEGINS TO STEP OFF OF THE PRAYER ROOM AND CAST A LIGHT SYNONOMOUS WITH HOLINESS DOWN UPON THE IMAM AND ACROSS THE GATHERING CONGREGATION. ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS, THE ROOF ALLOWS THE STUDENTS TO CONGREGATE ATOP THE BUILDING INDEPENDENT OF RELIGION AND GAZE BACK UPON THEIR CAMPUS.

    LOCATED ON THE STRIP DISTRICT IN PITTSBURGH PA,A MIXED USE OFFICE BUILDING AND MARKET FORMS TO RESPOND TO THE URBAN FABRIC OF THE STRIPDISTRICT FROM WHERE IT CURRENTLEY BEGINS TO DWINDLE TO THE EXTEND OF OUR SITE. BASED ON PREVIOUS FACADE STUDIES IN WHICH TEXTILE AND NATURAL PATTERNS WERE OVERLAYED, A SERIES OFVERTICAL LOUVERS PULL APART ACROSS THE FACADESOF THE BUILDING TO OPEN UP DOUBLE HEIGHT ATRIUMSAT VARIOUS LEVELS TO LOOK OUT THROUGHT VIEWINGCORRIDORS ATOP PITTSBURGH. THE MARKET RESPONDSIN THE SAME WAY, EXCEPT, BEING LOW TO THE GROUNDUSES THE LOUVER SYSTEM TO CONTROL LIGHT

    THE EXISTING BUFFALO BOTANCAL GARDENS, A LORD AND BURNHAM GREENHOUSE STRUCTURE LOCATED IN OLMSTEDS PARK SYSTEM, RELIED ON A THEORETICAL CONCEPT OF EXHIBITS DERIVED FROM A MERIDEAN PASSING THROUGH THE CITY OF BUFFALO AND AROUND THE GLOBE. BEING LISTED ON THE NATIONAL HISTORIC REGISTERY THE ADDITION HAD TO WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FRONT FIVE HOUSES AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL MASONRY CHIMNEY.

    THE PROJECT PROLIFERATES THE CONCEPTUAL EXHIBIT OF THE MERRIDEAN AND RE-CONNECTS THE BUILDING WITH THE PARK SYSTEM USED TO HOUSE IT. A SERIES OF BOARDWALKS SHUFFLES USERS AROUND FROM THE EXISTING HOUSES TO A SERIES OF NEW HOUSES AND AN EVENT VENUE. THE BUILDING CONNECTS THE USERS TO THE PARK THROUGH VIEWS OUT OF THIS RAISED PLATEAU AND BY LIGHTLY TOUCHING THE GROUND AS TO NOT DISTURB THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT PRESENT. AT THE SAME TIME THE HOUSES PHYSICALLY PULL AWAY FROM THE SITE, AS THE ENCLOSED ENVIRONMENTS EXTEND THROUGH THEIR FLOOR PLANES RECONNECTING WITH THE PARK BELOW AND CREATING MULTIPLE ENVIRONMENTS FOR THE USER TO TRAVERSE.

    THE PROJECT INCORPORATES 12 RESIDENTIAL UNITS AND A PUBLIC PROGRAM INTO A COMPLEX WHERE BOTH COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER, AS WELL AS THE URBAN FABRIC SURROUNDING THEM.

    LOCATED ON THE BUSTLING ELMWOOD AVENUE IN BUFFALO, THE PROJECT ATTEMPTS TO PROLIFERATE THE ALLEYWAY ADJACENT TO IT THROUGH USE OF THE PUBLIC PROGRAM. THE GREENWAY ALLEY IS YEARNING TO BECOME A CIRCULATION VEIN NOT SECONDARY TOO, BUT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MAIN THOROUGH FARES OF THE CITY INCLUDING ELMWOOD AVENUE. IT USES A PUBLIC PLAZA TO CREATE PATHWAYS FOR A FARMERS MARKET AND ENCOURAGES USE OF THE ALLEYWAY AND CIRCULATION ACROSS THE SITE.

    THE DESIGN TAKES ADVANTAGE OF BUFFALOS RUST BELT, INDUSTRIAL HISTORY AND ITS PROXIMITY TO SOME OF THE MAJOR SHIPPING HUBS OF NORTH AMERICA, BY RE-USING CONTAINERS AND VARIOUS DISSAEMBLED PARTS OF THEM, TO CREATE AN ALMOST EXCLUSIVLEY RECYCLED BUILDING.

    THE DESIGN TAKES ADVANTAGE OF BOTH THE ARCHITECTURAL AND STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS ALREADY DESIGNED WITHIN THE CONTAINERS TO MAXIMIZE THE EFFICIENCY GAINED FROM THEIR RE-USE. BARRING SITE CAST CONCRETE ELEMENTS SUCH AS FOUNDATION SLABS AND ELEVATOR SHAFTS, EVERY COMPONENT OF THE BUILDING INCLUDING THE UNITS THEMSELVES, FLOOR SLABS, COLUMNS AND RAILINGS, AS ILLUSTRATED IN GREEN, IS DERVIED FROM SOME SORT OF CUSTOMIZED OR DISASSEMBLED SHIPPING CONTAINER.
