architecture in the landscapeAt allerton park in Monticello, Illinois there is a formal garden that is adjacent to an open prairie with no transition between the two. The performance space is intended to provide that transition. As one walks the path leading to the prairie from the formal garden, the form of the building transforms from a rigid form to a more free form.

in downtown champaign, the history of architecture stems from the mid-1800’s. as newer buildings are be-ing built in the area, they are retaining an older feel with modern aspects. this mixed-use apartment building is intended to do the same, while creating a dynamic pathway leading into the entrances of the building.

the discovereum is a chance for kids to explore their creativity. same goes for the concept of the discov-ereum. it introduces a new way for a building to be thought of. instead of one building with one skin, this discovereum is six buildings connected by criss-cross-ing circulation all surrounded by a “carrying case” for kids to discover each space of the museum separately. the colors not only coordinate to legos, but also serve as a form of navigation within the maze of circulation.

architecture in the landscape
the form of the tea pavilion was determined by winds and how people are intended to move throughout the space. it rests on a flood play, so it rests on stilts to avoid water damage. the notches on the backside are intended to block wind in the winter, while the front side is glass to allow sunlight into the space year round.
