ruston film center

site: ruston, lastudio: arch 315date: fall 2009concept: the project revitilizes the concept of the cinema existing as a social center as well an educational facility. by lifting the center into the air, the structure creates a large public space beneath its underbelly. all of the structure is left exposed to replicate feeling of being beneath a car and provides an opportunity to educate its visitors on how the building functions. the main cinema lies in the core of the building’s chassis, functioning as the engine without which the entire program would fall apart.

c.r.a.m.b. complexsite: ruston, lastudio: arch 325date: winter 2010concept: located adjacent to an existing baseball complex, c.r.a.m.b. pays tribute to ruston’s lineage as a prisoner of war camp. by displaying the original camp ruston barracks on the surface level, audiences are drawn into the design. below, they see a series of strategically placed light wells encrypting and revealing the u505 below. the entire design explores the idea of pattern and code and uses it to stitch together the radically different programs.
