The first University of Hungary
The University of Pécs, the oldest university in Hungary, was founded
in 1367. Today it is one of the largest Institutions of Higher Education in
the country and offers a wide spectrum of courses to some 23,000
students in approximately 500 different study programmes. The
highly qualified academic staff are a guarantee that students are

The University of Pécs provides a truly international learning

How to get to Pécs?
Pécs, the fifth largest city in Hungary, with a population of about
150,000, is a true Mediterranean gem. It is situated in South
Transdanubia, close to the Croatian border. The easiest way to reach
Hungary from more distant countries is by air. There are flights to
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, from all major airports in Europe,
and to reach Pécs from the capital, one simply takes an Intercity train
or uses one of the popular minibus shuttles - a direct personal
transport service from the airport to any address in Pécs.

Description of programme:
This programme is designed for students who are interested in business
studies and wish to pursue a business career. The programme is
conducted in an innovative way, including not only lectures, but also
case studies, practical exercises and teamwork. The programme
benefits from a sizeable number of guest lecturers from Europe and the
USA, but one very special feature of the programme is that it is validated
by Middlesex University in the UK. Upon the successful completion of
their studies, students will be awarded two degrees - one Hungarian and
the other British.

Description of programme:
The programme aims to give an insight into various disciplines, such as
cultural and EU studies, psychology, social sciences, economics or
communication - to enable students to train, develop and handle adults
as 'human resources' at their place of work. All lectures and seminars,
together with the literature are in English. We have a very simple
application procedure to attract students, and the programme is
strongly practice-oriented (especially in the last two semesters, when
students have HRM courses).

Description of programme:
The aim is to train nursing and health care experts to be able to take part

Description of programme:
The programme provides a complete education in Biology and also a
number of specialised tracks such as Neurobiology, Genetics,
Microbiology, Animal and Plant Ecology, Botany, Zoology, and Plant
Physiology. These specialised tracks, which feature from the second
year are incorporated into two modules: infra-individual (involving
more laboratory practice and Cellular Biology courses) and supra-
individual (involving more ecology courses). Each module comprises 5-
8 subjects. Both these and the basic subjects are taught by means of
lectures, seminars and laboratory work. The programme also provides a
broader perspective of the related scientific fields of chemistry and
physics. Students will develop their knowledge by using the most
modern instrumentation in our new research centre. This covers all
facets of education, research and innovation in the biomedical, natural
and environmental sciences fields. It also provides opportunities to be
involved in research work in 22 different research groups.

Description of programme:
The programme provides a complete education in Chemistry, together
with specialised tracks in Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Analytical
and Environmental Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. Special courses
are included dealing with Instrumental Analysis, Advanced Organic
Chemistry and Physical Chemistry Measurements. Courses involving a
deep knowledge of Mathematics, Chemometrics, Basic Theoretical
Chemistry and Biochemistry complete the curriculum. The subjects are
taught in lectures (the theoretical background which aims to provide a
broader perspective for chemical application), in seminars (which focus
on discussing topics and practising chemical calculation) and in
laboratory work. Students will develop their knowledge by using the
most modern instrumentation.

COMPUTER SCIENCE BSCFaculty of Sciences

Description of programme:
The Computer Science BSc offers full 3-year-education in computer
science and programming. The aim of the course is to educate students
to be able to work in the IT sector as coders or software developers - or
continue their studies at MSc level. The basic courses include Discrete
Mathematics, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Probability
and Statistics, Mathematical Logic, System Design, Programming
Methodology, Programming Languages, Software Technology,
Computer Architecture, Operating System, Networking, the Theory of
Databases etc. After earning 90 credits from the fundamental courses,
students have a choice between an academic and an applied
specialisation. The academic alternative focuses on applied and
fundamental mathematical issues such as operations research, the
advanced theory of algorithms etc., whilst the applied option focuses on
current software development technologies. Both specialisations offer
flexibility in the choice of courses according to the student's interest.

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Geography
Duration of course: 6 semesters

Description of programme:
The programme provides a complete general education in Geography,
together with specialised tracks in Landscape and Environmental
Studies, Regional and Settlement Development and also in Tourism. All
three specialised tracks have solid GIS (Geographic Information System)
support. The programme provides a general Bachelor-level education
in Geography. It includes introductory modules on Nature and the Social
Sciences, on Geology and Geography. The core of the programme
comprises fundamental issues, including topics such as Physical,
Human and Regional geography. Advanced courses can be chosen from
the topics offered for the specialised tracks. In addition to the
compulsory courses, students must choose optional courses to help
them in their specialisation. Courses usually consist of two parts: a
lecture and a problem-solving seminar, each worth 1 to 4 credits,
depending on the nature of the topic.

The Mathematics BSc comprises a full 3-year course in Mathematics,
which can serve as a basis for further studies in Mathematics or
Computer Science. The basic courses include: Logics, Computer

Probability Theory and Statistics and Game Theory. Advanced courses
include Mathematical Programming and Operations Research, Group
Theory, Computer Algebra, Numerical Methods and Applied Computer

Description of programme:
The Physics BSc provides a full 3-year education in Physics together with
specialised tracks in IT, in Physics and Applied Physics (especially Laser
Physics). The curriculum is organized in modules embracing
introductory courses in Natural Sciences and common courses for all
Physics students (basic courses in Mathematics, Physics and
Informatics). The courses related to the specialisations in Applied
Physics cover advanced topics in Experimental and Theoretical Physics
and the necessary courses in Mathematics and Informatics. The focus of
the specialisation in Informatics for Physics is Data Acquisition, Signal
Processing in LabView, Database Management and Programming in C#
language.

Description of programme:
The Earth Sciences BSc offers a full 3-year course in Earth Sciences with
the possibility to specialise in Geology. It includes introductory modules
to the Natural Sciences, Geology and Geography. The core of the
programme is based on the fundamental issues of Earth Sciences and
includes topics in Astronomy, Cartography, Geomorphology,
Geophysics, Geochemistry, Hydrology, Meteorology, Palaeontology,
Paleo-climatology, Remote Sensing, Stratigraphy etc. – but with the
strong presence of regional geography. The programme also includes a
variety of courses in human geography.

Description of programme:
The programme offers a 3-year course in physical education, coaching,
and sports. The curriculum is organized in five modules: Team and
Individual Sports, Medical Factors in Sport, the Social Aspects of Sport,
Sport Sciences and Professional Practice. Each module has 5-10
subjects. The programme requires 180 credits to be earned in topics
such as Human Anatomy, Physiology, Strength, Sport Sociology, Sport

This programme trains students to apply their complex knowledge in

The Summer University is a four-week-long course in August where
students have the opportunity to study Hungarian at five different levels
- in classroom and outdoor lessons and in small groups (4-12 students).
The programme blends a language course with cultural programmes, so

The Pécs Debate Academy is a unique regional initiative started in 2013
on the basis of the multi-award winner International Culture Week of
Pécs (ICWiP). It functions also as International Studies Summer School
of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Pécs, which
provides an opportunity for students from all corners of the world to be
engaged in a series of debates on topics closely connected with our
transnational and 'glocal' world. The British Parliamentary Debate
system will be introduced to the participants by professional trainers as
a method of debating.
Participation fee: €120 registration fee + €229 (Early Bird fee, total:
€349) or €399 (Normal fee, including the €120 registration fee)
Deadline for application: May 31 (Early Bird deadline) and June 30
(Normal deadline)
