  • This prospectus contains information on the Higher Education courses offered by three successful colleges in North Wales Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and Coleg Menai which together form Grp Llandrillo Menai, one of the largest groups of colleges in the UK.

We offer an extensive range of university level qualifications, including Foundation and Honours Degrees validated by major Welsh and English universities. We work in partnership with a number of universities in Wales, including: Bangor University, Glyndr University, the University of South Wales and Aberystwyth University; and in England, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Many are vocational qualifications developed in consultation with employers, to equip you with the skills and knowledge that employers require and to make progression into employment easier.

Experienced tutors, small classes, partnerships with major employers and industry-standard vocational facilities provide students with excellent learning experiences.

As a result of a Strategic Partnership with Bangor University, a new University Centre has recently opened at the Rhos-on-Sea Campus, providing bespoke, contemporary facilities for our Higher Education students.

If you are already in employment but looking to change career or gain promotion, then look no further as our full-time and part-time course timetables are work and family-friendly. This will make it easier for you to combine studying with your other commitments.

Various financial assistance schemes can significantly reduce the fees payable for both full-time and part-time degrees.

If you already live in North Wales, you may save thousands of pounds by studying with us, as research has shown that a student who studies locally saves, on average, 17,500 compared to someone who goes away to university.

Whatever course you choose, you can be sure of excellent tuition and personal attention.

We look forward to welcoming you.

  • Honours Degrees An Honours Degree has 360 Higher Education credits. In some subjects, the Honours Degree is studied full-time over three years. In others, a Foundation Degree is studied first and this can then be topped up to an Honours Degree with one or two years further study.

Foundation Degrees As a general guide, a Foundation Degree has 240 Higher Education credits. Most Foundation Degrees require a student either to be working or to have a substantial work experience placement. Unlike some undergraduate programmes, theyre not just about theory. They provide you with the knowledge and skills that employers need, by combining theory with its application to the workplace. This will help you to enhance your employment opportunities and to prepare for more responsibility or promotion. In addition to the subject-specific modules, each student will usually complete Research modules and Employability-based modules. These will encourage independent thinking, develop your skills in academic writing, research and giving presentations, and train you to analyse and evaluate your progress and performance. All of our Foundation Degrees have been developed with clear progression routes onto Honours Degrees at Grp Llandrillo Menai or at one of our partner institutions. Please check the website www.gllm.ac.uk for more information.

Higher Nationals (HNC/HND) A Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a work-related university level qualification normally studied part-time for two years or full-time for a year. On completion, you could progress onto a HND or Foundation degree.

A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a university level qualification that takes two years full-time or three years part-time to complete. Successful completion may allow you to be accepted onto the third year of a degree course.

We offer Higher Nationals, Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in a range of subjects. Specific information about whats available in each subject area is explained later.

Which degree course is right for you?

Whichever degree you choose, you will usually only have to attend college for a maximum of two days a week, so you can complete your studies and coursework at times convenient to you.

    7www.gllm.ac.uk

All of our Foundation Degrees offer progression opportunities to Honours level of study, either here or at another university.

We have an extensive and varied range of facilities across our campuses which are open to the general public and for students to use when they are not in classes.

  • I studied the Foundation Degree whilst also working as an Art Therapist and Im also an active artist. My life is hectic and I like to keep really busy, so doing this Foundation Degree really suited me. Im currently at Coleg Menai studying the BA (Hons) Fine Art course.

Nia Lloyd Roberts Foundation Degree in Art & Design Coleg Menai

I had always wanted to go back to study but was afraid to as I had always struggled with reading due to undiagnosed dyslexia. Coleg Menai supported me with my dyslexia with some fantastic learner support which made it possible for me to achieve my Foundation Degree. The flexibility of this course also meant I could juggle with being a carer for my mum too. Ive now progressed on to the BA (Hons) Fine Art course at Coleg Menai.

Sue Williams Foundation Degree in Art & Design Coleg Menai

I first came to Coleg Menai to study a Level 2 Electrical course and progressed on to an Apprenticeship. In 2013, I was awarded the Electrical Engineering Apprentice of the Year and in the same year won the ECA Adult Trainee of the Year, a UK-wide award. I recently graduated with a HNC in Electrical and Electronic Technology. The HNC gave me a whole range of new skills. It also enabled me to understand the technical side of the job and also work more closely with clients and have a better understanding of their business needs.

  • I was looking to improve my prospects and opportunities and decided to enrol on this course. I loved Coleg Llandrillo, it was a brilliant experience and the small class sizes make the course so personal. My personal tutor was always really supportive and made time to help me with my studies.

Im now studying my Masters at Chester University.

Tiffany Kite BA (Hons) Management & Business Coleg Llandrillo

I wanted to increase my skills in cookery and this course seemed like the ideal springboard for further Higher Education study. I have a family with 3 children of my own so balancing my work and study with my family life can be tricky, but being able to study so close to home and at times convenient to me has made it possible. I would highly recommend the College to anyone in my position.
