APPLYING FOR ADMISSIONWHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU APPLY
• You can put three program choices on your application.
• Your first choice should be your top choice. If you don’t get accepted to your first choice, we’ll automatically consider your other choices, in the order that you specify.
• Pick a new subject for each choice. For example, don’t choose the Honours, specialization and major in the same subject (e.g. Psychology) for your three choices. If you don’t meet the requirements for the Honours, we’ll automatically consider you for the specialization or the major instead.
• Admission requirements for some programs are exactly the same (for example, all John Molson School of Business degree programs). Do not choose more than one program for your three choices if they have the same admission requirements.
• Consider including a less competitive program among your choices. This will help maximize your chances!
Complete instructions are at concordia.ca/undergraduate .
DEFINITIONS• Your academic program is the type of degree you’ll be doing (Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Commerce, etc.).
• Your academic plan is the subject that you’ll be studying (Biology, Finance, etc.).
• Elective courses, depending on your program, allow you to explore interests outside of your required courses.
ACADEMIC PLAN TYPES
• A major requires you to take enough courses that you’ll end up with a general overview of the field, but not so many that you won’t still have extensive room for exploration outside the field.
• A specialization provides a more in-depth study of your field while leaving you room to take other courses.
• Honours is a highly concentrated program, ideal for students planning to continue on to graduate studies.
• An option refers to plans within engineering or computer science.
• A minor gives you a basic introduction to a field. You can add a minor to complement a major, specialization or honours, but you can’t complete a minor by itself. Minors are optional.
1. Have your three program choices ready.2. Check your programs’ admission requirements. Look
for things like specific math and/or science requirements, a letter of intent, a portfolio, etc.
3. Apply online at concordia.ca/apply.
4. Include your supporting documents: a. Transcripts: upload a copy now. We’ll ask you for
official copies later, if you’re accepted.
b. Proof of language proficiency, if applicable.
c. Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, if applicable.
d. Program-specific requirements, if applicable (i.e. letter of intent, portfolio, etc.) You may need to submit these additional documents directly to the academic department. Check concordia.ca/programs.
You may upload documents to your file even after submitting your application.

2. Academic Background: You lack the normal academic requirements for admission (for example, you did not complete high school, did not attend CEGEP or started but did not complete a DEC) but you can demonstrate the ability to successfully undertake undergraduate courses.
If you have a completed credential but it does not meet the University’s minimum requirements, you can apply as a mature student. For example, you graduated from high school with an overall grade of C- and have been out of school for 6 years. The completed credential does not meet the minimum so you can apply.
If you have a completed credential that meets the University’s minimum requirement, then you should not apply as a mature student (i.e. you completed Ontario high school 10 years ago or CEGEP 5 years ago).
3. Period without studies: You have not studied full-time for at least 24 months since the age of 18. If you have been out of school for 12 months, you may be admitted provided your academic record for the previous 24 months is favourable. Note - Full-time studies at CEGEP is considered 7-8 courses.
4. Residency: You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Some exceptions may apply to students who are already living in Canada, i.e. not a permanent resident , but here on a family diplomatic permit .
Meeting these conditions does not guarantee admission to the University and cannot replace a poor academic record. Each mature entry application is reviewed on an individual basis.

Admission to most programs is based on a strong portfolio or an audition, and, normally, above-average grades.
Applicants must apply for admission through Concordia’s online application at concordia.ca/apply before submitting a portfolio or booking an audition. Portfolio / audition deadline: March 1
Applications to Fine Arts programs are only available for September entry.
Applicants who meet the minimum cut-off averages are not guaranteed admission. The university reserves the right to change admissions requirements at any time.
23
• Audition
• Letter of intent
For the audition, applicants must prepare and perform a monologue (review and select a monologue option online). There will also be a group audition in a workshop-style format. Applicants are responsible for booking an audition. This can be done online after submitting Concordia’s admission application.
The letter of intent (1-2 pages) helps those considering your application to learn more about who you are as an artist and a student, how you express yourself in writing, what your goals are within the program, your experience and related skills.
Out-of-town applicants: The program normally accepts students only by live, in-person audition. However, out-of-town candidates can submit a “pre-audition” by video prior to the annual audition dates. Based on this “pre-audition,” faculty members will make a recommendation about whether the candidate seems competitive for acceptance and should travel to Montreal to audition, if at all possible.
ACTING FOR THE THEATRERequirements
Learn more about these requirements online: concordia.ca/programs/actingtheatre
FINE ARTS PROGRAMS WITH ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS All Bachelor of Fine Arts applicants must complete Concordia’s online admissions application at concordia.ca/apply before submitting a portfolio or booking an audition. The admissions application deadline is March 1. The following pages provide a basic summary of the additional requirements. Visit the department’s website for detailed instructions and information on portfolio submission, audition booking and any other required materials. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all requirements are met.
• Letter of intent
• Portfolio
The letter of intent must describe the applicant’s reasons for applying to the Art Education program; outline the applicant’s academic background and any relevant professional and/or volunteer experience; and explain what the applicant hopes to learn over the course of their undergraduate degree.
The portfolio should be a collection of your best and most recent work in visual arts. It should represent your individual interests, abilities and explorations. Your portfolio should consist of approximately 20 pieces of personally conceived 2D and 3D work of an imaginative and visually explorative nature. Consider visual, conceptual, and technical proficiency in selecting your best and most recent work. Your portfolio will be submitted online.
ART EDUCATION – VISUAL ARTSRequirements
Learn more about these requirements online: concordia.ca/programs/arteducation
24
• Pre-audition questionnaire
• Audition
• Interview
After completing the online admissions application, applicants must submit the pre-audition questionnaire and select an audition date for live audition.
Candidates selected for an audition will then have a one-on-one interview with a faculty member. Candidates will be assessed based on: Technique, improvisation, choreography, and the interview. The four-part audition includes group technique class in contemporary dance, group improvisation led by faculty, followed by individual presentations of the candidate’s solo and interview with faculty. The audition also assesses the physical, creative and personal potential of each applicant. Applicants are responsible for booking an audition.
Out-of-town applicants may submit an online video audition. After completing the University admissions application, fill out the pre-audition questionnaire and select the option to do a video audition.
Applicants should have at least two years of experience in contemporary or related dance.
CONTEMPORARY DANCERequirements
Learn more about these requirements online: concordia.ca/programs/contemporarydance
• Portfolio
• Letter of intent
• Letter of reference (optional)
• Resumé / curriculum vitae (optional)
For the portfolio, applicants must submit a maximum of 15 creative works from two or more categories (consult categories online). An ideal portfolio would include a diverse range of projects, mediums and interests. Applicants who cannot submit a range of work should address this in their letter of intent to show their enthusiasm, motivation and potential for success in our programs. Your portfolio will be submitted online.
The letter of intent must explain your reasons for applying to the program and summarize your interests, goals and if relevant prior studio/academic and work experience; summarize your level of technical or software skills, image and object-making; mention education/experience. Include areas of strength and areas where you do not have prior experience and summarize understanding of the program to which you are applying.
Applicants may include letters of reference from teachers and/or employers. Students who have taken courses within the Department of Design and Computation Arts prior to this application should request letters of reference from their instructor(s).
COMPUTATION ARTSRequirements
Learn more about these requirements online: concordia.ca/programs/computationarts
25
• Portfolio
• Interview
• Letter of intent
Your portfolio should include creative work such as drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, clothing you have designed or made or any other relevant work. Applicants must bring their portfolio to the interview. Do not submit your portfolio in advance of the interview.
Applicants are responsible for booking an interview. This can be done online after submitting Concordia’s admission application.
The letter of intent (1-2 pages) helps those considering your application to learn more about who you are as an artist and a student, how you express yourself in writing, what your goals are within the program, your experience and related skills.
Out-of-town applicants: If you are from outside of Montreal and cannot attend the interviews in person, please upload a minimum of 20 images of your work along with your letter of intent. You will also be able to book an appointment for an online interview after you submit your admissions application.
