    Do I meet minimum eligibility requirements for the CSU?

    You are eligible for admission if you:

    What are the 15 units of courses I need?

    You must complete with a grade o C or better the ollowing patterno college preparatory subjects totaling 15 units:

    2 years: Social Science, including one year o U.S. Historyor U.S. History and Government

    4 years: English3 years: Mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II;

    or integrated mathematics including these topics)2 years: Science with a laboratory (one year biological and

    How do I report my courses if my school is not on the semester system?

    I your school uses a calendar other than the traditional semestersystem (two terms per academic year), report all terms and gradesearned. For example, i your school is on a trimester system, enter thethree grades in the three columns. I your school is on a block systemor you receive more than three grades or the year, you may enter theourth grade to the right o the summer/term column. I your school ison a trimester, quarter, or block calendar, you may need to make anadjustment when you record the total units in each academic area. For

    example, otal English should be translated into a number that willrefect the number o semesters o that subject i it had been completedon a traditional semester calendar. Tat is, or a ull year o study, thenumber would be 2 or each year and a total o at least 8 or our years oEnglish. Remember, you can count only courses with grades of C or better.

    How will the CSU campus know if all admission requirements have beencompleted?

    As a rst-time reshman applicant, you are required to submit a nal high

    school transcript ater you have completed your senior year o classes.Te high school transcript must have a graduation date posted onit. A nal review o the transcript will be done to veriy that you havecompleted successully all required courses and maintained theeligibility index required. Te nal review may result in a change inadmission status.

    When should I send transcripts?

    Te campus(es) to which you are applying will inorm you when tosubmit your ocial high school transcript. ranscripts must be receivedin sealed envelopes directly rom the high school.

    Is the foreign language requirement ever waived?

    I you can demonstrate competency in a language other than Englishthat is equivalent to or higher than that expected o students who havecompleted two years o oreign language study, you may be allowed a waiver.

    All applicants are encouraged to complete the 15 units o collegepreparatory subjects.     Do I have to declare a major to apply to a CSU campus?

    Most CSU campuses allow you to apply as an undeclared major.You should check with the campus to which you are applying.

    Do I have to take any placement tests for the CSU?

    Te results o the English Placement est (EP) and the Entry Level

    Mathematics est (ELM) are required o all incoming studentsPRIOR to enrolling in classes; thereore, you will need to take thetests beore you attend the CSU unless you are exempt.

    How can I be exempt from the placement tests?

    What does my score on the English Placement Test (EPT) and/or the EntryLevel Mathematics Test (ELM) mean?

    Depending on your scores on the EPT and/or the ELM, you maybe required to complete one or more specifc remedial coursesupon enrollment as indicated by the campus. Remedial classes mustbe completed satisactorily within one academic year.

    Transfer Admission Requirements

    Lower-Division Transfer Admission Requirements

    Some campuses restrict enrollment o lower-division transer students.Caliornia residents may be eligible or CSU admission with ewerthan 60 transerable semester units (90 quarter units) i they:

    Haveacollegegradepointaverageof2.00orbetterinalltransferablecollege units attempted.

    Areingoodstandingatthelastcollegeoruniversityattended,i.e.,eligible to re-enroll.

    Meettheadmissionrequirementsforarst-timefreshmanorhavesuccessully completed necessary courses to make up the decienciesthey had in high school i they did not complete the 15-unit (a-g)pattern o college preparatory subjects.

    Some campuses may require lower-division transer students to havecompleted English composition and general education mathematicsprior to transer. Some campuses do not admit lower-division

    transer students. Contact your campus o choice to determinewhether there are admission limits on the number o lower-divisiontranser students.

    Students who completed college units beore they graduated rom highschool or during the summer between high school graduation and CSUenrollment are considered frst-time reshmen and must meet thoseadmission requirements.     If I am a lower-division transfer applicant and I do not meet

    the eligibility index from high school, what do I do?

    It is highly recommended that you continue your education ata communitycollege and complete 60 or more transferable semesterunits (90 quarterunits) before attempting to transfer to a CSU. You

    should complete as many of the general education and pre-majorrequirements as possible.

    Upper-Division Transfer Minimum Eligibility Requirements

    You are eligible or admission with 60 or more transerable semesterunits (90 quarter units) i you:

    Haveacollegegradepointaverageof2.00orbetter(2.40for non-Caliornia residents) in all transerable college units attempted.

    Havecompletedorwillcompletepriortotransferatleast30semesterunits (45 quarter units) o courses equivalent to general education

    requirements with a grade point average o C or better. Te 30 unitsmust include all o the general education requirements in com-munication in the English language (English composition, oralcommunication, and critical thinking) and at least one course o atleast 3 semester units (4 quarter units) in college-level mathematics.

    What happens if I do not complete the admission requirements?

    As a transer applicant, you are required to submit nal collegetranscripts prior to attendance in CSU classes to veriy your successulcompletion o courses. I you did not complete the courses needed oradmission, the CSU campus to which you applied may delay or cancelyour admission or enrollment until you successully complete therequired course(s).

    Note:Some CSU campuses will admit transer students based on coursesin progress, and some will not. Please consult the specifc campus(es) or

    their published or electronic materials or specifc campus inormation.

    When should I send transcripts?

    Simultaneous to your applying or admission, request that ofcialtranscripts be sent directly rom allcolleges and universities thatyou previously attended, even i no course work was completed. Itranserring with ewer than 60 transerable semester (90 quarter)units completed, you also must submit your high school transcriptand ofcial test scores. ranscripts must be received in sealed envelopesdirectly rom each institution you attended.

    Do transfer students have to take placement tests in English and math?

    Which application do I fll out i I want to pursue a second bachelors

    degree?

    You should complete the online undergraduate application oradmission to apply or a second bachelors degree. However,applicants or second bachelors degrees are considered undeclaredpostbaccalaureate students even though they will not be pursuing agraduate objective. You will qualiy or CSU admission i you: (1) havecompleted a our-year college course o study and hold an acceptablebaccalaureate degree rom an institution accredited by a regional

    accrediting association or have completed equivalent academicpreparation as determined by appropriate campus authorities;(2) are in good academic standing at the last college or universityattended; and (3) have attained a grade point average o at least2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted,or a 2.5 GPA on units included in your bachelors degree.

    Some campuses or departments restrict or prohibit enrollment o secondbachelors and undeclared postbaccalaureate students.

    Undergraduate Financial Aid Inormation

    What kind o fnancial aid is available?

    Te CSU provides nancial assistance in the orm o grants, scholar-ships, loans, ellowships, and part-time employment or students whomeet nancial aid program eligibility requirements.* I you believeyou and your amily will not be able to pay or all your educationalcosts, you are encouraged to apply or nancial aid.

    *CSU fnancial aid awards are contingent upon continued unding romederal and state government programs. International students who are inthe United States on F-1 or F-2 student visas and students who are notcitizens or eligible noncitizens are NOT eligible to receive ederal or state-

    unded fnancial aid and should not apply.

    How do I apply or fnancial aid?

    You must complete and submit the Free Application or Federal

    Student Aid (FAFSA) each year between January 1 and March 2to be considered or priority ling or the all term.*All campuseswill continue to accept applications ater the priority ling date andwill make awards as long as unds are available. Te FAFSA andother student aid inormation is available at the U.S. Department oEducations website,www.fafsa.ed.gov. Te FAFSA can be accessedthrough www.csumentor.edu.

    Undergraduate Caliornia residents must also apply or a Cal Grantrom the Caliornia Student Aid Commission. Undergraduates applyingor a Cal Grant must complete and mail the FAFSA by the March 2deadline and have their school counselor submit a veried grade pointaverage (GPA) to the commission by the March 2 deadline.

    Students who graduated rom high school or received a GED in2000-2001 or later are entitled to a Cal Grant i they meet the basicnancial requirements, have at least a 2.0 high school GPA, andapply within one year o high school graduation. Community collegetransers who graduated rom high school during 2000-2001 or latermay be eligible or an entitlement grant upon transer rom a communitycollege i they maintain a 2.4 GPA and meet other eligibility criteria.Inormation on Cal Grants is available atwww.csac.ca.gov.

    What about scholarships?

    Te number and types o scholarships available vary rom campus tocampus as do application procedures. I you are interested in applyingor a scholarship, you should contact the campus Financial Aid orScholarship Ofce to obtain application orms and additional inormation.

    Selective Service Registration

    Te ederal Military Selective Service Act (the Act) requires mostmales residing in the United States to present themselves or

    registration with the Selective Service System within 30 days o their18th birthday. Most males between the ages o 18 and 25 must beregistered. I you were born ater December 31, 1959, you maybe required to submit a statement o compliance with the Act andregulations in order to receive grant, loan, or work assistance.

    Selective Service registration orms are available at any U.S. PostOfce, and many high schools have a sta member or teacherappointed as a Selective Service Registrar. You can also request thatinormation provided on the Free Application or Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) be used to register you with the Selective Service. Inormationon the Selective Service System is available and the registrationprocess may be initiated online atwww.sss.gov.

    *Applicants entering in the winter or spring terms should apply or nancialaid as soon as possible ater January 1, 2010, or winter or spring 2011.

    Caliornia Domestic Partner Rights and Responsibilities Act

    I you or your custodial parent are registered with the CaliorniaSecretary o States ofce as a domestic partner, your eligibility or state-unded nancial aid is determined by including consideration o yourdomestic partner or your parents domestic partner and their nancialcircumstances. However, the income and assets o domestic partnersare not used in determining eligibility or ederal nancial aid and arenot reported on the FAFSA. Tereore, ater you have completed andled your FAFSA, you must consult the campus website or contact thenancial aid ofce or additional inormation and the orm required inCaliornia in order to recognize the domestic partnership or state andinstitutional aid purposes.

    What i I decide to change my fnancial aid application to another CSU

    campus?

    You must notiy the FAFSA processing service o the name, address,and ederal code o your alternate campus i you did not originallyinclude it on your FAFSA. You may do this by accessing your FAFSAonline and add institutions on your school list.

    Can I estimate how much fnancial aid might be available to me?

    Use the CSU Cost Calculator (CSUCC) to estimate how muchnancial aid might be available to you. You will nd the CSUCC ormon the Web atwww.csumentor.edu. Click on the Financial Aid barand then click on CSUCC.

    *$4,026 is the amount undergraduates enrolled in more than 6units pay; undergraduates in 6 or ewer units pay $2,334. Students enrolled in teach-ing credential programs or a Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or

    Special Education credential pay $4,674 i they are taking morethan 6 units and $2,712 i they are taking 6 or ewer units.

    **Te cost o meals, housing, and personal expenses or studentswho continue to live with parents or relatives are not expected toincrease because o college attendance. ransportation expenses orcommuting students will vary depending on the type o transporta-tion used and the distance traveled.

    General Inormation or All Applicants

    How much does it cost to apply to the CSU?

    An application processing ee o $55 in U.S. unds, payable to TeCaliornia State University, is required or each new application led.Te ee is nonreundable and may not be transerred to another termat any campus. Te ee is required or each campus to which you apply.

    Te application ee or up to our campuses may be waived i you are

    a Caliornia resident rom a low-income amily or whom the applica-tion ee would be an extreme and undue hardship. Both the applicationee waiver orm and/or payment by credit card are available when youapply online at www.csumentor.edu.

    What other programs and services are available at the

    CSU campuses?

    Educational Equity Programs, Child Care Centers, Services to Stu-dents with Disabilities, Academic Services, Veterans Aairs, roops toCollege, and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) are among theprograms that are available at most campuses.

    Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Admission

    Requirements

    Each CSU campus (except Caliornia Maritime Academy) hasan Educational Opportunity Program or undergraduate students

    who are Caliornia residents and are disadvantaged because o theireconomic and educational backgrounds. Students with a history o lowincome who need academic and nancial assistance may apply orthe program.

    EOP accepts students who do not meet regular admission criteria,as well as those who qualiy or regular admission.Because acceptanceto the EOP program is limited, you should le your applicationor admission to the campus and complete your EOP orms earlyin the ling period. Please note: Te criteria or acceptance to theEOP program at the CSU are more restrictivethan those o the EOP&S program at the Caliornia CommunityColleges. Tereore, you may not be accepted to an EOP programat the CSU, even though you may be an EOP&S student at aCaliornia Community College.

    What i I require accommodations or support services dueto a disability?

    Te Ofce o Services to Students with Disabilities Program provideseducational support services to help students with documented physi-cal, perceptual, psychological, or learning disabilities. Services mayinclude registration assistance, campus orientation, disabled personparking, note takers, readers, sign language interpreters, test-takingassistance, supplemental assessment o learning disability, real-timecaptioning, transcription, disability-related counseling, assistivetechnology, and reerral inormation. For additional inormation,contact the Ofce o Services to Students with Disabilities at the CSUcampus you are interested in attending.

    Where do I fnd inormation about housing at the campuses?

    Contact the Housing Ofce at the campus you wish to attend to

    learn about housing on and o campus. Housing applications shouldbe submitted at the same time as your admission application. Somecampuses may have additional requirements or early deadlines orcampus housing.

    What are the CSU immunization requirements?

    All students are required to present proo o immunization againstmeasles and rubella, and all students 18 years o age or youngerare required to present proo o immunization against hepatitis B(up to three timed doses) beore enrolling. Te campus will provideyou with inormation on how to complete the requirements.In addition, the campus will provide to rst-time reshmen

    who will reside in on-campus housing inormation aboutmeningococcal disease.

    What is the TOEFL? Who needs to take the TOEFL?

    Te est o English as a Foreign Language (OEFL) is requiredo all students whose native language is not English and who havenot attended schools at the high school level or above or at leastthree ull years o ull-time study where English is the principallanguage o instruction. Te OEFL exam may be taken as a paperexam, or via computer or the Internet.

    A minimum score o 500 on the paper exam, 61 on the Internet version,or 173 on the computer-based OEFL is required.*

    Some CSU campuses or particular majors require higher score resultsthan these minimum scores. Please check with the CSU campus in whichyou are interested or the required scores.*Candidates or a second bachelors degree must have a OEFL score o 550 onthe paper version, 80 on the Internet version, or 213 on the computer-basedexam.

    Are there opportunities to enroll at more than one campus while I am a CSU

    student?

    Students enrolled at any CSU campus will have access to courses atother CSU campuses on a space-available basis unless those campuses

    or programs are impacted. Te programs include the Concurrent andVisitor Enrollment programs within the CSU and the Cross Enrollmentprogram between the CSU and the Caliornia Community Collegesand the University o Caliornia. Additional inormation about theseprograms is available rom the campus admission ofce.

    What is an impacted major or program?

    Te CSU designates major programs as impacted when moreapplications are received in the initial ling period rom CSU-eligibleapplicants than can be accommodated by the campus. Te initial l-ing period is dened as the rst month(s) o the ling period(October 1 through November 30 or all terms).

    I you are interested in an impacted major, you must apply duringthe initial ling period. You will be subject to supplementary admis-sion criteria and may not be accepted into the program. In order to

    maximize your opportunities, you may wish to consider as a secondchoice a campus that will continue accepting applications beyondthe initial ling period. When CSU-eligible applicants are not accom-modated or admission to one impacted CSU campus, they may bere-routed one time to an open campus without having to pay anotherapplication ee.

    Which campuses have impacted majors?

    Many campuses have some impacted majors that require additionaladmission criteria. Several majors are impacted at one or more butnot all o the campuses oering the major.     California State University, Fullerton is impacted or rst-time reshmen. All undergraduate applications must be led duringthe initial admission application ling period (October 1 throughNovember 30 or all) to be considered or admission. First-timereshmen must provide SA or AC scores no later than Decemberor Fall admission consideration. Upper-division transers mustdesignate a major at the time o application.     Under Caliornia law, campuses must determine the residencestatus o all new and returning students. Nonresidents are requiredto pay nonresident tuition and meet other conditions, unless an

    exception applies.Generally, to be eligible or Caliornia resident classication, an adultapplicant must have established and maintained permanent residencein Caliornia at least one year prior to the applicable residencedetermination date.
