I need an account that makes banking easy

Our Under 19s Account is a great way to look after your money

With your account you’ll get:

• Choice of either:

– Cashpoint card for accessing your money at ATMs only – both in the UK and abroad.

– Or a Lloyds Bank Visa debit card which you can use to pay for things in shops, on the Internet and to access your money at ATMs – both in the UK and abroad.

• Earn a variable rate of interest, paid quarterly, of 1.50% AER (1.49% Gross) on credit balances up to £2,500.*

• We do not pay credit interest on amounts over £2,500.

• Regular statements.

• Our mobile alerts service offers a simple way to stay on top of your finances without even having to think about it. So if we have a mobile number for you, we’ll help you keep an eye on your balance and much more.

* AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year. Gross rate means that we will not deduct tax automatically from your interest. You are responsible for paying any tax due to HM Revenue and Customs.

Choosing the right card

Cashpoint card or Visa debit card

Cashpoint cardIf you only need a card to access money at cash machines, our Cashpoint card gives you access to our large and accessible ATM network in the UK and to ATMs abroad.

With your Cashpoint card you can withdraw up to £200 a day from a Lloyds Bank Cashpoint machine free of charge or from over 62,000 LINK cash machines (a charge may apply).

Visa debit card • You can use your Visa debit card in the UK

and abroad to make purchases. Fees apply if using your debit card abroad, see the Banking Charges guide for more details.

• If there isn’t enough money in your account to buy something, the transaction shouldn’t go through, as this Visa debit card is designed to make sure you can’t spend money you don’t have. If something does go wrong and your account goes overdrawn by mistake, we

won’t charge you and we’ll work with you to make sure your account is put right.

• You can take out up to £500 a day from a Lloyds Bank Cashpoint machine free of charge or from over 62,000 LINK cash machines (a charge may apply). And you can withdraw up to £300 from Post Office® branches and up to £100 cashback free of charge in most supermarkets.

Using your card

Visa debit cardIt’s easy to make your everyday purchases, whether it’s cinema tickets or stationery supplies.

However, some transactions, like gambling, may be inappropriate for your age group, so your card will block your purchases in some shops or on some websites that it recognises as being potentially unsuitable.

If you want to change your card to one that doesn’t have this added protection you can ask for a replacement card in branch when you turn 16.

Chip and PINChip and PIN is when you enter your PIN into a keypad to buy something. Using it is simple:

• Insert your Visa debit card into a card reader or PIN pad and check the amount.

• Enter your PIN and the machine will check it’s correct and print you a receipt.

• On some occasions you’ll still need to sign for some of your purchases instead of using chip and PIN. For example when you’re travelling abroad.

Page 10: Under 19s account - Lloyds Bank · PDF fileOur under 19s account ... – Lloyds Bank Cashpoint ... – Everyday Offers – earn up to 15% cashback at the types of places you shop

7

I’m sorted if I travel

Using your Visa debit card abroad

• Visa debit and Cashpoint card customers are able to use ATMs abroad to withdraw cash up to the equivalent of their UK withdrawal limit (£200 for Cashpoint cardholders, £500 for Visa debit cardholders).

• Visa debit card customers are also able to pay for things anywhere you see the Visa sign.

• Using your card abroad is more convenient and safer than carrying lots of cash around, plus you can withdraw local currency from any cash machine that displays the Visa sign.

You might want to let us know your travel dates and where you are going so that we know to expect overseas transactions on your account. Visit a branch or call us on 0345 300 0000 or online if you are registered for Internet Banking.

Charges apply to use your Visa debit card to withdraw cash in a currency other than sterling, or to withdraw cash in sterling or make a purchase outside the UK. Please see our Banking Charges section in the Personal Banking terms and conditions for full information.

I know all my numbers

Remembering your Personal Identification Number (PIN)

With your card comes a PIN. When you pay for something in a shop or take out money from a Cashpoint, you will need to type in your PIN. If you find it hard to remember the one we’ve given you, then you can change it to one that’s more memorable.

To change your PIN visit any Lloyds Bank Cashpoint and insert your card and current PIN. Then select ‘PIN services’ and follow the on-screen instructions.

If your card is lost or stolenYour Visa debit card or Cashpoint card is much safer to carry around than cash. But you must report any theft or loss of your card as soon as possible so that we can stop other people from using it.

• Call into any Lloyds Bank branch, or call the Lloyds Bank 24 hour Lost & Stolen Cards service on 0800 096 9779 in the UK, or +44 1702 278 270 from abroad.

We will usually send you another card within seven working days.

TOP TIP

Choose a number that’s special to you. It’s a good

idea to avoid birthdays and repeating the same number.

Remember, your PIN is secret.

Jargon buster

Understand all the words and phrases used when talking about your Under 19s Account

LINK cash machinesLINK is a UK network of cash machines. You can use your Visa debit or Cashpoint card to take out money from cash machines where you see the LINK sign.

CreditIf your account is in credit, it means that you have money available to spend. When money goes into your account this is known as being ‘credited’.

InterestIf you save money, you can often receive interest from the bank on the money you save.

ATMAn Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is a cash dispensing machine (or ‘hole in the wall’), which you find in many places including banks, shopping centres and railway stations. In order to be able to use

an ATM you need a Cashpoint or Visa debit card and a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

There is often a limit per day on your withdrawals. And some ATMs both in the UK and abroad may charge you for withdrawing money – see our Banking Charges section of the Personal Banking terms and conditions for more information on our fees.

DebitMoney which is taken out of an account is ‘debited from’ that account. When your account goes into debit it means you do not have money available to spend.

BalanceIs the amount of money you have in your bank or other account at any time (or the amount you owe on your credit or store card). It will be shown on your statement. ‘Balance brought forward’ is the balance that was left at the end of last month.
