Term 4 Week 8 Monday 28th November, 2016. North Coast Aboriginal Education Award Last Wednesday Zhanae received a North Coast Aboriginal Education Award for Student Leadership. This is a very prestigious award and Zhanae was presented with it at the Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre by Mrs Robyn O’Neil, School Education Services. We are very proud of Zhanae as she has shown strong leadership across the school throughout her schooling at Ulmarra. Big River Film Festival ….And the winner for this year’s Big River Film Festival in the category of BEST DAMA is…. ULMARRA PUBLIC SCHOOL with their Year 4/5/6 producing a thrilling adventure with those well- known Ulmarra oldies off to the Rio Olympic Games equipped with their walking frames and their grandchild’s brand new Samsung Galaxy mobile phone freshly loaded up with Pokemon Go! Ethan Hall (Year 5) graciously accepted this award on behalf of our school as most of Y4/5/6 are off on another adventure at Lake Ainsworth…capturing footage for their next feature film, no doubt. The Big River Film Festival is in its 13 th year now and is including more river and coastal schools each year. It is the longest running Film Festival for schools in Australia and is planning bigger and better ventures for 2017. This year’s films came from Kindergarten to Seniors and covered songs, artwork, documentaries, mockumentaries, drama, Claymation and comedy with each showing off just how clever our children are when they share ideas, embrace technology and are guided by their teachers along the platforms for the future. Mrs Kowal so greatly appreciated this opportunity to show just how wonderful the students in Y4/5/6 at UPS are in accepting this challenge. UPS Production team…NEVER DOWN! Presentation Day Our Presentation Day will be held at 9:30 am under the COLA on Thursday 8th December. This is a special award ceremony and we invite all parents and guest to join us at this special time followed by a light morning tea in the library. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we work on; the Yaegl and Gumbaynggirr people. Early Action for Success We are pleased to announce that from 2017-2019 UPS have been assigned an Instructional Leader, Ear-ly Action for Success 2 days per week. I have inter-viewed suitable candidates and welcome Mrs Debo-rah O’Connell to our staff from the beginning of the new school year. Mrs O’Connell’s role in the school is to work with teachers to further develop the teaching skills and understanding of new research in educa-tion. Mrs O’Cnnell has a strong understanding of the Instructional Leader role and has demonstrated these practises in her classroom. She will be working alongside the teachers and this extra support will benefit the children especially in K-3.

K-2 Excursion The K-2 excursion for 2016 has been set down for Friday 2nd Dec. The students will be going to the Sa-raton Theatre in Grafton and the Duckworth’s dairy farm. The cost of the excursion is $10 and students will need to bring their own lunch. Popcorn and a poptop will be provided at the movies. The movie will be decided closer to the date.

Family Fun Night Don’t forget to join us for a Family Fun Night and BBQ on the 2nd December in the school grounds at 5pm.

Found A pair of prescription Collette Dinnigan sunglasses in the library. The glasses have been there for a few weeks and can now be picked up from the Front Of-fice.

Car Park Safety As a school we are very lucky to have 2 car parks within our school grounds. This of course brings other risks for picking and dropping off children. As a school our policy for student safety is that ALL children K-6 be picked up by an adult in the school grounds. No child is to go to the car park without a parent or carer. If you are running late students will walk around to the front of the school with the bus/bike/walkers and wait with the teacher on duty until they have been picked up. Thank you for keeping our children safe.

My Colour Poem

The flowers are violet

And being all quiet

Water is blue

Just like you

Mangos are yellow

Taste like mellow

The bed is red

Where I rest my head

Clouds are pink

They make me think

Trees are green

How can they be mean?

By Elora
