    UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) is run by

    young people for young people. There are

    hundreds of MYPs (Members of Youth

    Parliament) & DMYPs (Deputy Members ofYouth Parliament) across the UK that

    represent the views of young people in

    their local communities.

    By acting together, UKYP gives young

    people a powerful voice that is heard by

    decision makers in local and national

    government and helps young people to usetheir energy and passion to change the

    world for the better.

    Every year UKYP undertake the largest youthconsultation ever in this county. It is calledMake your Mark.

    Last year (2013) Suffolk UKYP collected over3800 ballot papers from young people inSuffolk. These top 5 issues from Suffolk havebecome our local priorities.

    The top 2 issues debated and voted for in theHouse of Commons have become the nationalcampaigns

    52,000 pupilsnow being taught in schools and colleges thathave pledged to teach them a Curriculum for Life 18,423 young people signed petitionsacross the Country

    helping to demonstrate the public support for this campaign.

    16 and 17 year olds beingallowed to vote in all publicelections and referendumsin the UK.

    We believe in Votes at 16 because: Being able to participate in free elections is a fundamentalhuman right.

    16 and 17 year olds are knowledgeable and passionateabout the world in which they live and are as capable ofengaging in the democratic system as any other citizen.

    Lowering the voting age to 16, combined with strongcitizenship education, would empower young people tobetter engage in society and influence decisions that willdefine their future.

    People who can consent to medical treatment, work full-time, pay taxes, get married or enter a civil partnershipand join the armed forces should also have the right tovote.

    The expectation is 7 hours per month withthe exception of local meetings

    You will attend one local meeting monthly

    MYPs will take it in turns to attend BYCConventions (every 3 months)

    MYPs will take turns to attend the UKYPAnnual Sitting, a weekend residential with the

    whole of UKYP. MYPs will take turns to attend the House of

    Commons debate in November

    In Suffolk we have 8 MYPs and 8 DMYPs who have a

    two year term of office- you will be an MYP/DMYP

    until 31stMarch 2016 or until your 19thbirthday,

    whichever comes first

    No experienceneeded, just adesire to getyoung peoplesvoices heard.

    You must be aged between 11-18 to stand as

    an MYP or DMYP You must live, work or study in your

    constituency

    If you turn 19 during your term of office you will have to standdown in your role on your 19thbirthday.

    Please note UKYP is a charity and therefore it is non-partypolitical therefore you can not represent or promote any partypolitical views and you are expected to remain free form anyparty political influence whilst representing your constituentsand BYC/UKYP.

    There will be 1 Member of Youth Parliament(MYP) & 1 Deputy Member of YouthParliament (DMYP) elected from the following

    constituencies: Bury St. Edmunds (1). Central Suffolk (2.)

    South Suffolk (4.) Suffolk Coastal (5). Waveney(6) and West Suffolk (7). There will be 2 MYPs& DMYPs elected in Ipswich including NorthIpswich (3).

    The closing date for submitting your completedcandidate form is 5.00pm on Sunday 2nd March 2014.

    After you have submitted your form, we will email youto confirm that we have received it.

    From the 3rd March will contact you to let you knowwhether you have been successful or not to stand inthe election. You will be emailed a consent form whichwe will need your parent or carer to complete and

    return to us, along with the code of conduct,expectations and further details.

    You will then be invited to submit a writtenmanifesto and/or a campaign video outliningyour manifesto (issues which you want towork on). This must be received via email ona single side of A4 paper, or a videomanifesto of no more than 2 minutes. This

    must be received no later than 5pm onSunday 9th March.

    Vote for your MYP from 10thMarch If you are aged between 11 and 18 years old

    you have the right to vote for your preferredcandidate to become your MYP in the 2014UKYP elections.

    The elections will take place during the weekbeginning 10th March 2014. You will be able

    to vote for free for your preferred candidateonline.
