Photovolt Development Partners is focused on de-veloping very large photovoltaic power plants with capacity per project starting at 130 MWP and no upper limit. The largest project currently under de-velopment has a capacity of 475 MWp. The devel-opment of such projects requires special expertise in a number of areas such as high voltage engineer-ing, governmental relations, environmental assess-ment, topography and an in depth understanding of the photovoltaic and power transmission industries, together with the legal and regulatory framework in any given country.

The management of multiple large-scale projects requires complex coordination over longer periods of time to ensure fast completion. Our team has many years of industry experience and we use high-ly specialised software for the planning and simula-tion purposes. Working in different countries across the globe we cooperate closely with local teams of engineers, architects, real estate brokers, legal and political advisors to liaise with local stakeholders that influence content and duration of the permit-ting and construction process.

Gil de Olid

All projects are developed off-balance sheet in special purpose vehicles that are joined by equity investors, typically at start of construction. The construction of the power plants is outsourced to experienced construction companies. During the op-erational phase we offer full operations and main-tenance services, including administration, security and claims management.

The plants are typically financed by a combination of equity and non-recourse debt to achieve attractive returns. We use quality components to achieve high-est possible electricity outputs and to ensure bank-ability of the projects.

Agri-Solar Demonstration

Agri-Solar

The demographic development on Ukujima island is comparable to many rural communities in Ja-pan. Jobs vanish and the young people leave the island. The economic costs sustaining infrastructure -, health- , education-, and transport system have to be shouldered by fewer and fewer individuals. At some critical point a good quality of life on the island might become difficult to sustain.

This development will be reversed with the con-struction of the Ukujima solar power plant.

The Ukujima project creates a win-win situation for

all parties involved. The plant is designed in such a way that agricultural production will continue un-derneath the solar module tables. More than this, it also becomes economically viable to re-cultivate abandoned agricultural land. Sun will be converted into clean electricity at a very high efficiency rate. Additionally many jobs will be created in the phase of construction but also afterwards in the main-tenance through out 20+ years. Furthermore the farmers gain income by long term leasing contracts of their land and the local community will profit as a hole from tax contributions of the power plant company.

Photovoltaic

Module field

Technical description A solar power plant is a modular system and can be scaled to any size. It is however essential for a stable and efficient conversion of sun light into electricity that each component properly dimen-sioned and tested with scrutiny to fit into the entire system. A photovoltaic system consists mainly of the following components.

Panels In total this project will be build of 1,9 million polycrystalline solar panels. One panel has a size of about 1,6m2 and depending of the inclination angle of the sun and the outside temperature converts sun light into 250W of peak electrical power. The panels will be tested and then connected to strings consisting of up to 25 units. Electricity losses are minimized to less than 2%. Due to their technical specifications these panels are very suitable for the extreme climatic conditions close to the sea side.

Mounting Structures

Inverter Station

Photovoltaic

Mounting Structures The panels are attached with screw-clamps to an aluminium or galvanised steel framework. This framework is mounted on poles which are rammed into the ground in average depth of 1,5 meter. No concrete is used, thereby minimising the natural intervention and ensuring an easy deconstruction after the end of the useful life. The front lower edge of the module rows is erected between 1.60m and 2.20m above ground in order to allow for the agricultural activities to be continued under the Agri-Solar plan.

Inverter The electricity generated by the panels will be transformed into alternating current by 200 units of 2 MW power conditioners combined with attached transformers. The stations are located as close to the modules as possible minimizing a loss of cur-rent. From these stations the alternating current will be fed into a dedicated 33kV AC grid network.extreme climatic conditions close to the sea side.

The separate grid network on the island will deliver the electricity to a high voltage sub-station, which will transform it to 220 kV. This electricity will subsequently be transformed into direct current by high tech converters and delivered to a 63 km long high voltage submarine cable that leads directly to Ainoura power station. There the direct current will

be transformed back into 220kV alternating current and connected to the extra high voltage power grid network of Kyushu Electric Power Company. The transformation of current minimises power losses over such distance and contributes to the stabilisa-tion of the grid network on Kyushu Island.

We always seek the co-operation of:

Land OwnersPlease contact us if you own land that you wish to sell or lease on a long-term basis (20 or more years) for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant. You will benefit from a stable and long-term revenue stream without the need to further develop your land. Photovoltaic power plants generally have a low visual and noise impact and fit well with the landscape. The technologies we use for the erection of solar panels and supporting constructions allow us to return your land in the same condition as it was leased. The ideal land is reasonably flat, close to electricity lines or power sub-stations, has good public access roads and measures at least 500.000 square meters.

Developers We seek contact with local partners who can help identifying sites or may wish to sell their projects in any development stage. With our expertise and equity funding we work very effectively to accelerate the realisation of every project.

InvestorsIf you are interested in the acquisition of photovoltaic power plants, please contact us.
